Now the question is: imagine (or dream;-) MS publicily saying that they will make some association / trustee company, including people from FreeSoftware community, competitors, and so on, which would review software & sign it. Would that be acceptable ?
No.
I just whipped up my newest version of helloworld.c. How long is it going to take for you to sign it for me?
The local Mac shop got all their powerbooks stolen last week. Of course, this is the same place that had a TiBook stolen the week after they came out because everyone's too busy surfing for porn in the back...
You don't recall correctly. But as you said, who cares. There's an additional ~$75M in CDs they're giving to charity. But that's like MS donating $1B (in software value!) to charity.
Read the terms, though: they have $67,375,000 to give out to anyone who's purchased a CD, cassette or record from the beginning of '95 to December 22 of double-naught. It doesn't take into account how may albums you bought; the money is split evenly for the class. If the numbers end up being less than $5 a head, "the cash portion of the Settlement shall be distributed to not-for-profit, charitable, governmental or public entities to be used for music-related purposes or programs for the benefit of consumers who purchased Music Products."
So, if 13,475,000 people claim their chunk of the settlement, you get your $5 check. When Mr. 13,475,001 rolls along, the record companies/conspiracy theory/ will set up a not-for-profit shelter so they can hand the money right back to themselves/conspiracy theory/
But something I've been lusting after since I found out about them last year or so: an Apple PowerCD. I don't have any idea if it would be useful at all to you, but hey, I'm still geeked I moved up from a Quadra 840AV to a PowerMac 7600/132 (look 'em up on Apple History if you want links):)
I won first place my first year in my pack, and second place my second year, but that's not the point of my post:)
The funniest item I ever saw in our races was, one year, one of the kids brought in a three-wheeled car. It had two back wheels and one center-mounted front wheel. This kid cut a section out of the front of the car and put the wheel there.
Anyway, the thing was a speed demon on the short (~6 ft) test/weigh-in track. Everyone else was *sure* the race was over before it started.
Race night came, and that car was in one of the later first-round heats. Everyone lines up, places their car, and...
The three-wheeler bounced back and forth down its track. Hilarity ensued.
It wasn't centered enough to go straight down the real track. Everyone else had a chance to go pick up their car before this one made it to the end. I felt so bad for the kid.
In Macintosh Programmers Workshop. It's not quite the same thing, though. It's a dialog box that presents you with a preferences page containing all the command line switches of a particular MPW tool.
Arguably, yes. Have you looked at the range of apps on Microsoft's Windows Media Technologies site? And all of that stuff is available without buying a license to OS-integrated items installed out of the box.
Which begs the question that others in this thread have already asked: if I just want to see what all the fuss about Ellen Feiss is, why is quicktime player suggesting I need to give Apple another $30?
Quicktime used to be free too. The company I was working for at the time Quicktime 3 came out bought me a license for it, but I just thought that was silly. It would be like MS making you buy Media Player.
I want someone to write a dummy flash plug in that does absolutely nothing, apart from stop the stupid 'do you want to download the latest Meglomedia Flash
Do you plan on installing any more plugins? If not, remove libnullplugin.so/npnul32.dll from your mozilla/phoenix/netscape plugin folder. You'll get one more message that the plugin installer isn't available and then you'll never be prompted to install another plugin.
No.

Open source isn't about building the next Apache or Samba. And if it's a help to anyone, I bet *they're* happy it was open.
"*I'm* not gonna use it, so why do they bother?" doesn't sound like the right attitude to me.

I can hardly wait for the game that requires a Beowolf cluster of PS3s.

So what does the fake iWalk look like this time?

Dammit, and I was pounded gorilla #8346...
You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance.
That's what the American taxpayers are for. So, let's do the math, eh?
We say we want to reduce the size of government, so we end up with the Department of Homeland Defense.
We say we want to centralize the Internet so we can sniff everything, so we raise taxes.
Duh.
I can understand being fooled into thinking Time is a news magazine, but People?
I've always gotten a kick out of their use of their 800 number in the URL.

Novell's GroupWise is a full-featured collaboration suite (and I don't mean just client, but server, too)
So how much blue-tack can a mechanical butterfly withstand?
See, now there's a statement that's just begging for a goatse.cx link, but nooooooo...
Apple will never release a tablet anything, because people will immediately start bitching about how the first round of Newtons were crap.
You have a better chance of the iWalk being real than Apple does of releasing a PDA.
But... isn't your wife going to be upset?

Ernie: Bert, nobody's favorite number is 6!
