Thousands of Americans Arrested for Supporting Terrorism!

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the United States' federal government placed thousands of civilians and millitary personel under arrest for their suspected involvement in funding Middle East terrorist groups. A spokesperson for the FBI was quoted as saying "Each of these people, within the last 90 days, has purchased oil, gasoline, or petrolium products from within US borders. A special operation, in aliance with the Department of Treasury and the Federal Trade Commission, was able to trace this money's destination all the way back to Middle Eastern hands." When asked if the government realized how fucking retarded they where being for believing such a thing, the spokesperson said "I have no comment at this time except to say that we have someone looking at such a possibility."

Later on at the White House, George W. Bush was seen arresting himself through oval office windows, by a Reuters cameraman who was there to shoot stock photography of the building...

Why doesn't someone make machines like this anymore? Something that could so infinitely be tinkered with? I'd sure buy one. Hell I'd buy parts for it and automate my room. :-)

Oh, and as for old technology, my original Apple ][c is still working (the ugly fat beige one), complete with original disk drives and green monitor.

The green monitor is the neatest part, it takes a standard RCA video cable. It really freaks people out to see themselves on camera on an ancient green computer monitor, but hey, Apples have always had better graphics. ;-)

Where can I buy myself a nice C=64 these days? I'd love to own one, emulation is fun but nothing beats the real deal.

PS One more thing, if you like the C64, you might check out the SidStation, a synthesizer built with the C64's SID6581 sound chip. It has been used in numerous famous songs such as Zombie Nation's "KernKraft 400" (yes, that's right, the lead in that song came from a Commadore 64's sound chip). Kind of neat, and if you're into the whole techno thing, a novelty piece of gear, especially because they're limited. From Their site:
The SID6581 is a very cool little soundchip, built like no other. Its original techniques have resulted in a very special sound with unique realtime control possibilities.

Housed in a 28-pin DIP-capsule it is a mixture of digital and analogue technology with phase accumulated oscillators and analogue multimode NMOS filter. It has inherited the character and individuality from the analogue world, sometimes appearing to have a life of its own.

SID6581 was a part of the Commodore 64 - the computer with the most active hacker community ever. This meant that thousand of hackers and musicians explored every little corner of the chip, trying to beat each other in doing the most advanced and interesting sounds. Over time hackers came up with many original ideas on how to squeeze even cooler sounds out of the chip.

What this means for the SidStation is that not only the SID chip is original in sound, but the way it is programmed is based on over 10 years of experience from the C64 hacker community. No other synth chip has had this chance.

Here, the rest of the major countries of the world with the resources to fly missions to the moon are finnaly going to go ahead with it, and all you can do is scoff? Laugh, and pretend you look so cool because you're "American"? Everyday there are a buttload of articles right here on /. with things like "Another American company patents something that shouldn't be", "Another lame rights-infringing American law is passed", "Another stupid American politician says something stupid about technology because he was bought off"....every single day.

Not to oversimplify too much, but I don't think the rest of the world sucks dispite all this, simply because we sent some guys in a rocket to the moon. America is great, we have lots of cool things and privilages many other places in the world don't. And every single day we come closer and closer to losing it, because we're too busy worrying about what everyone else is doing.

Techno, House, Drum'n Bass, etc. still come on 12" vinyl 45s, obviously for DJ use, but they range anywhere from $2 to $60, depending on age/popularity. The usual is around $10, however. If I can buy the entire track and listen to it (not just the usual 2 minute cut-up MP3 or *shudder* RealAudio) before I know I want to spend the $10 + shipping, I'd do it. Buy MP3s of the tracks I'm considering buying on 12", put them on a CD and put it on repeat in my car for a week. Whichever songs I find myself speeding around too, I know are decent enough to buy. :-)

Unfortunately, I highly doubt Apple's service will ever be offering the latest of the Nukleuz or Tinrib catalog...

    Dahshhh egzshackally rrrrrrrrright!

IM in it's current state is primitive. It's like how no one can move off the "desktop/windowing" model, or at least make changes radical enough to begin moving towards another idea (you have to admit, the "desktop" is crowded and protentailly messy and confusing these days). I'm no expert by any means, but integration of AIM into other apps seems like a good idea to me, especially in a tech envroment.

I saw one comment talking about including IM features in an IDE, with CVS lookups of who modified what and direct connections with whiteboarding of the code and everything.

Tell me THAT wouldn't be the most useful thing ever for multiple developers around the world, or better yet, open source collaboration. So if AOL's new package happens to be a library to link against which allows you to integrate their IM features into any app you're developing, well then I do believe they've struck gold.
