shoot, hate to respond to my own post, but I didn't RTFA first and now I see this:

The first Matrix movie was released in Egypt but was criticised by Islamic newspapers for promoting Zionism.

    ...
One Egyptian critic, Wael Abdel Fatah, said: "The press launched a campaign to stop showing the movie, saying that it reflects Zionist ideas, and promotes Jewish and Zionist beliefs."

So, the whole " the issue of existence and creation, which are related to the three divine religions, which we all respect and believe in" is really just a pretense -- the real reason is because it can be too easily interpreted as "Zionist propaganda"?

Just wondering aloud, since almost all the inhabitants of the Zion (in the movie) are black, and since they are probably going to dub the movie in Arabic anyway, can't they just change "Zion" to "Amsterdam" or something and sidestep the whole issue? *kidding*

No. They're not in the 'new' package.

Wait, I still get the HBO and ENC in the other package you're still charging me for, what happend to Starz, Action and TechTv?

Oh, we're phasing those out -- they would go away eventually anyway.

Ok, so cancel this new package and give me back those channels.

Nope, can't do that -- it doesn't work that way.

Turns out they were going to chop some channels, decided to try to get people to sign up for additional channels hoping they wouldn't notice the others were gone.

Now, if you're going to drop channels, fine. Send out a notice, I can survive without Starz and TechTv. I thought this was pretty crappy way to try to put one over on the subs.

Kentucky Fried Chicken has become KFC. Does
anybody know why? We thought the real reason
was because of the "FRIED" food issue. It's
not. The reason why they call it KFC is
because they cannot use the word chicken

    They actually use genetically manipulated

I'm listening to the call right now, the words "our intellectual property" just came out of his mouth again.

But their press release says they don't own copyrights or patents, just contract rights to license code to others.

SCO owns the contract rights to the UNIX® operating system. SCO has the contractual right to prevent improper donations of UNIX code, methods or concepts into Linux by any UNIX vendor.

So, what "intellecual property" is he referring to?

    This is nice also:

Copyrights and patents are protection against strangers. Contracts are what you use against parties you have relationships with.

Biy, I'd be in a big hurry to enter into a contract with any company that views a contract as something you "use against" another party!

I used to drive my wife crazy - sitting on the couch, clicking the remote all the way up and down the channels a couple times, declaring "there's nothing on" after about an hour. I can't beleive I used to do that.

TiVo changed all that. It now takes about 4-5 seconds to change the channel by just hitting channel-up/down (TiVo sends the full channel # to the cable box via IR emitter -- my moto box is the one causing the big delay in switching channels). It has made the practice of surfing by this method impractical.

Instead, I just use the marvelous guide feature. In under 90 seconds I can scan through the on-now and upcoming-soon programming, coming to my "there's nothing on" conclusion in mere minutes.

    Second Story Burglar Sues Homeowner

Danbury, CT - An admitted second story burglar is suing a homeowner. Michael Malone attempted to enter a three-story residence by climbing a tree to gain admittance through an open third floor window. Unfortunately for Malone, the tree limb broke and the 275 pound burglar crashed to the ground. When the homeowner heard the commotion, he went outside to investigate. In the dark, he spied a figure moving toward the rear of his five acre lot and fired one round from a .22 caliber revolver. When the homeowner attempted to locate the intruder, Malone hid in the brush then collapsed from a bullet wound to his buttocks. Malone's lawsuit alleges that he almost bled to death due to the homeowner's negligence in not notifying the police in a timely manner. The homeowner did not notify the police until one hour after the attempted break-in. Two hours after the incident, the police found Malone in a pool of blood.

I thought I had seen a story more along the lines you suggest, but I think I'm remembering the scene from Liar Liar. I googled for a bit and didn't find any "real" stories (snopes didn't have anything either).

I did find this -- Check this out:

    New Twists on Occupiers Liability

Can a Burglar Sue a Homeowner for Injuries Sustained During a Break-in?
Anyone who trespasses on land to commit a criminal act is deemed to have willingly accepted all risks of injury while on the land. For example, if a burglar slips and falls down a dimly lit staircase while breaking and entering into your home, there is no liability imposed on the homeowner.
Even a criminal trespasser, however, has some rights. A homeowner will be liable for creating "a danger with intent to do harm" or for acting "with reckless disregard for the safety" of a trespasser. If you have seen the movie "Home Alone" then I am sure that you can think of several examples which would fall into this category. A trip wire attached to the trigger of a shotgun clearly creates danger intended to harm the trespasser. In British Columbia, the Occupiers Liability Act tries to differentiate between accidental injuries to trespassers and deliberate attempts to cause harm or injury to trespassers. Generally speaking, there will be no liability for the accidental injury to a trespasser but there will be liability for the deliberately caused injury.

I think it's an urban legend. I don't think you can be sued unless you do something like set up a booby-trap or shoot him or something.
