My girlfriend is on it and she's having a great time. What works for her is IMs.
Well, she was my girlfriend for a few months.:) She since upgraded to someone even more compatible with her.
Moreover, I have quite a few messages in my mailbox as well.
We've met elsewhere, but I am impressed at what kind of selection of women I see on OkCupid. Chances are pretty high that I'll probably find my next girl on that site than any other.
I analyzed my relationships over the last 10 years meeting someone online vs. meeting someone offline, and online-initiated relationships were far more compatible. I ignored that, married an offline girl, and I shouldn't have.:)
I would wager that Slashdot actually has a lot more people who would be desired by any woman.
Intelligence: higher than most Financial stability: most of us have a decent income and some own businesses and/or investments Violent tendencies: unlikely Interests: more in tune with theirs than you realize Liar tendencies: we are likely to be more honest
Confidence and smoothness is actually easy to learn. Take sales training and go to Toastmasters for a few months, and you'll be irresistible to most women.
Physical appearance can be adjusted if it has been neglected.
That's what partially inspired me to go into tech in the first place. I wanted to make those images a reality.
An interesting piece of trivia - pictures credited with TM were published by the official magazine of the Central Committee of the Communist Party. This magazine was targeted at teens. Among other things, we had ZX80 source listings, MK61 programmable calculator listings, and so forth. Those were simple games that I would have to painstakingly type in on my MK61 calculator in RPN notation. Yet they taught me the principles of directly addressing a microprocessor. I had a subscription to many of these magazines since I was 5. Yet now in US we are experiencing a rapid decline in science education. It sounds unthinkable that Whitehouse would sponsor something like this, even though the expense would be trivial and would promote agencies like NASA. Something needs to happen before we wind up a 3rd world country due to lack of science, lack of big dreams, and apathy. That's precisely what USSR did. Even though the scientists were paid miserly wages, the children were inspired to get involved in building the future. I don't ever see big dreams promoted in the US. Everything is compartmentalized, processed, antisocial, and really not inspiring.
I will own several of the technological marvels such as flying cars within a few years. I will do it because I still have dreams and still remember what inspired me. But will others? Or will they be toiling away in overwhelming debt unable to see through the haze of daily stress? The only thing I can think of that is good for science and inspiration lately is Mythbusters. That's my opinion, but it probably made more than a few kids curious about chemistry at the very least.
It has a bean pillow underneath, a handrest at the front and grippy grey surface that makes mousepad optional. About $29.95. I bought one for me and one for my sister. We love them.

The only thing I need and don't see yet is a terminal services client. However, it's a Linux box so nothing stops me or someone else from putting it on. Then I can simply have my users login to my terminal server for their apps.
My clients rely heavily on their mobile handhelds. I've shown them how to use MS Mobile PowerToys to use the thing on their main laptops.
If this thing is in fact capable of what I think it is capable, as a Palm reseller I will sell tons of them, literally. I have a laptop that does nothing except run PowerPoint. That thing is old, slow, and bulky. I am actually going to try doing PowerPoint presentations directly from my handheld.
Unfortunately, Margi has discontinued its "Presenter-to-go" hardware products so now I have to look at what else is out there.
A client has a valid DSL account and a larger house. The client has a WRT54G router. We setup an additional wifi network to extend the range using powerline bridge technology from Netgear.
The client is a DirecTV subscriber. I am noticing that the connection speed is faster than it should be for a DSL. As I am configuring the WRT54G some stuff doesn't add up. My changes made upstairs are not propogating downstairs.
I then notice a comcast.net instead of sbcglobal.net domain suffix. I ask my client if he has a DVR, and he tells me that he's not a Comcast subscriber. I then notice that firmware on WRT54G that I access downstairs is very different from the one I am accessing upstairs.
As you can see, my client is using a neighbor's wifi router, but it's not visible from downstairs. Moreover, the neighbor's router has a vendor default password on its administrative screens.
To make things more interesting, the DSL account settings on the correct router were messed up, which further complicated this scenario. I'd configure my equipment correctly, but I'd have no Internet. I had to spend some time with SBC to reconfigure his correct courter with PPPoE settings. I then had to undo all changes to the neighbor's wireless router.
In any reasonably dense apartment complex, this is a valid scenario. I have 527 apartments in my complex and over 100 wireless networks.
Total time spent on troubleshooting this mess was in the neighborhood of 4 hours.
As a Toastmaster, and moreover as a candidate district officer, I will second this suggestion.
Let me give you an idea why. I was not a bad speaker when I joined the club, and in fact I was quite well-spoken, but I've improved a lot since then. I present seminars professionally and I also am involved in sales presentations nearly daily. I joined Toastmasters to get evaluated by my peers and not by my prospects or customers. You will get highly objective feedback from people whose sole goal is to help you improve your speaking abilities.
You will reduce your tendency to ramble on indefinitely due to strict time requirements for your prepared speeches. You will gain the ability to answer anything on any random topic in less than 2 minutes (part of our meeting is impromptu speeches about completely random topics between 45 seconds and 2 minutes 15 seconds in length). You will learn to control your gesturing, posture, and your filler words that make you seem unprofessional.
I notice huge improvements in members in a matter of just a few meetings. Everyone starts the same. In just a couple of meetings, the shyness begins to recede, and the volume and confidence in voice increase dramatically.
If you'd like to learn more about this organization, our district site is http://www.d4tm.org/ and my club's website is http://www.articculators.org/ Guests are always welcome at club meetings that are open to public, so just stop by your local club and say "hi".
In addition to this, I took a course "Introduction to Internet" in college. I was an expert, but I took it for the express purpose of learning how to explain such concepts to absolutely computer-illiterate people. Pierre Thierry was the instructor's name at City College in San Francisco and I took the course in the late 90s. He managed to explain Unix shell Internet tools to my 80-year old classmates! I learned a lot about how to explain highly technical concepts to non-technical people from listening to this professor.
There is an linear correlation of income to speaking ability - the better communicator you are, the more opportunities become available to you. Our club members tend to be successful, positive, and very supportive of your future success.
At the conclusion of your first 10-speech program, you will earn the title of Competent Communicator. Toastmasters can send a certificate to your employer as well, if you so desire.
P.S. One interesting side effect of practicing public speaking is that you become pretty smooth with members of opposite sex. After all, if you can articulate your thoughts seemingly seamlessly on any random subject in less than 2 minutes, they will be very impressed.:-)

How Image Spam Works

I sell software volume licensing.
You would not believe how many times I receive as a forwarded message from my customers a piece of spam that promotes "OEM" software at 90% off asking me "Should we get this?". The Adobe CS3 for $90.9 instead of $999, for example.:-)
I reply to such clients with an explanation of what OEM software really is and how it's different from unlicensed software.
Not every one of the spam recipients has someone like me with whom to consult, so I'd imagine the spammers are making a decent profit off this warez websites. I am sure everyone remembers that the best place to go find a new species of malware for research is to visit a serial numbers site.
I am guessing that _very_ few (I know that the overwhelming majority of them is in the legitimate line of work now and it's just a few bad apples who are spoiling the scene) of the kids who ran the early warez sites have either grown up or their work was noticed and copied. Either way, warez e-commerce is big business.
Crashproof Solutions means that we don't care if an individual component of our solution crashes. If a desktop, laptop, pda, or a server crashes at one of our clients, it is not an emergency. There are several SLA tiers with associated costs ranging from free for an under 1hr recovery to thousands of dollars for instant failovers. Achieving this takes some work, but we've done it successfully for many clients.
While most of our competition can't pull this off, hence your "it's impossible, you must be joking" implied statement, we surely can.:-)
Microsoft WM5.0 trumps all this with one simple feature - VoiceCommand.
No matter how cool "You had me at scrolling" is, you can't tell iPhone to do something with your voice. You can in fact do with with a Windows Mobile 5.0 device.
Seamless integration with Exchange is THE killer app for WM5.0
I am one of Microsoft's top resellers of WM5.0 technology, so I know what I am talking about here. It's the punchline of my presentation for BlackBerry and iPhone questions.
I believe that arbitrary papers are useless. They do not generate excitement. No excitement means more drudgery. I would wager that students would take on more courses at the same time if they didn't have this much drudgery to endure.
I also believe that learning to cite research materials should be a dedicated class. Spread it over a semester if you must, but it's a short course that should be delivered via a webinar series.
Every time I talk to someone currently enrolled in any higher education institution they have a paper to write. Correction "I have to write another useless paper". They truly hate it. It is time to recognize that terms papers are dead.
I wrote a term paper a long time ago on nuclear weapons proliferation. It was 18 pages long. It took me 6 hours to write it. Yes it was all properly cited etc. I chose the topic and just wrote it very quickly.
I agree with you that learning to do research is very important. However, is it truly that important that the process must be repeated every painful year and in every class? I respectfully submit that is not the case.
Enough drudgery already. It doesn't have to take a semester to learn something new. That's the reason why I decided to run a business instead of being bored to tears with the snail's pace of higher education process. I would get done with the textbook in perhaps two weeks, and then I would wonder why on Earth I am wasting so much time.
Higher education is in the state of transformation. Hopefully this finally put drudgery where it belongs - a mandatory Research 101 class.
1. VoIP (something like Packet8) or company-paid cell phone, probably a nextel group plan. Actually, Skype conferencing should work good enough. 2. Workstations - Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services Server. Then you don't care about what their workstations are like and the environment is manageable so you have no backup headaches. 3. In-person lunches at least once a week. It can get really boring to work from home!
I implement virtual offices all the time, so feel free to contact me through my website.
I hated rigid schedules to the point that I quit and started my own company. I saw it as an obsolete business model. My office building choice was primarily based on proximity to public transit. I wanted to be located directly adjacent to a BART station http://www.bart.gov/
I am paying a premium price for it, but it takes cars off the road and gives people some extra time during commute to actually be productive rather than wasting time in traffic. In the long run, this will probably create a headache for me as I am not aware of campus sized space directly adjacent to the station. As we grow, we'll be covering BART expenses for employees as a benefit. See http://www.commutercheck.com/
