And why can't they make any money off of OO? There is nothing in the GPL that says you can not sell it or the service of just installing it. What you can't change for, other than a small duplication fee, is the source.
I don't know if I have ever read such a whiny post. Aren't biological researches scientists? The sure better be following the scientific method. Yes she was annoyed first, but she was annoyed. So quit whining a post something meaningful.
When has Microsoft (or any publicly traded, for profit company) entered a market without trying to make more than just a little bit of money. Companies that try to enter a market without a clear financial goal are the ones that are no longer around.
Not doing complete testing the the bane of all software projects. Those with full test plans that are carried out with each release are always much better products. If your goal is not testing every line (even if you don't meet that goal) then you fail very often.
I've has a very simmilar situation last year and we found that ssh was much easier to work with and any vpn solution. The only potenial issue is since you are using consumper grade DSL ip address may change. But that is very easy to get arround by having the remote systems cheching there ip address every so often and when is changes sending it to you either by email or posted to a web server.
I actually saw one of the panic, faint and vomit scenarios in a differential equations final once. About 5 minutes into the test Dave (his real name) just fell out of his desk out cold and started vomiting. Prof told everybody to just sit and he call the ambulance and they wheeled poor Dave off. About 30 minutes after the test I ran into Dave on campus. They had a goood laught and released him from the hostpital (on campus variaty). He ended up taking the test the next day.
I am one of the 'over 40' crowd at a small software company and the average age of our developers is well over 40 (maybe over 50). And we do all new tech software. We all just realized that quality of life matters more than working for a flashy company in a big city just has too many draw-backs. So I live on acreage in the woods , drive 10 minutes to work to a town that has 3500 people ( one of four towns in the entire county ) leave work before 4 every day, and drink good scotch.
I do some of my best problem solving while sitting. So if I am working on a java issue then yes I do think about java while taking a dump, but I also think about C, Perl, bash, tcl, etc.

Again I will say to try the squeezeBox from www.slimdevices.com. They have designed in the ability to synchronize multiple devices to the same audio source. I have heard 3 devices in a house and I have not been able to hear any sync issues.
SlimDevices has a great wireless solution, no built in amp but both digital and analog outputs. The server side is open source that runs most anywhere perl does.

I think "Lawyers, Guns and Money" works better.
When did the year go to 16 months?

But from my experience they don't do it very well. Now democarts get into it much more often, and libertarians really know how to do it!

Because this is Slashdot!
Q: How many Oregonians does it take to screw in a light bulb? A: Five. One to change the bulb and four more to write environmental impact statements.
