Not sure what the point you're trying to make is; GGP suggested that Blockbuster couldn't have fought against Netflix since Blockbuster offered a physical product while Netflix offered data. I was pointing out that this was false, because Netflix started out by mailing DVDs around.

Netflix began killing Blockbuster when shipping DVDs through the mail was still their biggest business. That's a product with mass and physicality; perhaps you have no idea what you're talking about?

I'm actually beginning to wonder if Canonical isn't noticing a trend of users switching from Unity to other desktops, and if this is a way of combating that. If Unity is the only major desktop using Mir as opposed to X or Wayland, than it's probably going to be more of a pain to switch desktops, and that software written for Ubuntu might not be as portable across different Linux desktop environments.

You're right, because there are no technical details about Windows or OS X, and there is likely never any discussion amongst the developers of those operating systems about the use or inclusion of various software packages in the operating system.

The only difference here is that a Linux user has access to this information. Most Mac users don't know anything about the Mach BSD kernel or the Quartz compositor, but it doesn't stop them from using the system.

When the light turns green you're supposed to move.

So if there was something there obstructing his path (such as a pedestrian or a stray animal), would he still receive part of the blame? After all, the light is green so he should be moving. The driver who hit him was obviously not paying attention to what was in front of them. He deserves some blame, but certainly not an equal part to the driver who rear-ended him.

I would be very interested in seeing the answer to this. As a Python programmer I've nearly entirely avoided using Python 3.x in favor of 2.7. I just see fewer advantages to it than disadvantages (having to update old code, learning which libraries I use support 3.x, etc.). The Python community seems divided between 2.7 and 3, and this is problematic for a language designed to be clean with a "correct" and "pythonic" way of doing things.
