  2. Re:Is the digital divide really the problem here? on SolarNetOne Wants Stable Internet Connections For Developing Nations · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think it comes down to the basics: pubic safety, rule of law, market structures, literacy, infrastructure, etc. A connection to the internet can certainly help, in some cases. But in no way is it a necessity. Lower tech solutions may be more robust and effective, e.g., long distance shortwave radios, packet radio BBS's, etc.

They taught us pubic safety in the military before we went to strange ports. It's important for everyone to know and will certainly increase quality of life.

You're not going to get modded down for that. You're not even doing a good job pretending to believe it. Since that seems to be the prevailing thought here on /. you will probably end up +5 I Agree....er...Insightful.

Disclaimer: I don't like or agree with the RIAA, but believe the problem is with the broken judicial system. The RIAA is just doing anything they can to stay in business, like any good capitalist business should.

I've had just the opposite experience with Nod32 at my day job. It's picked up things some of the bigger players (McCaffee, Norton/Symantec) couldn't find. It's also been incredibly easy to manage. That said, I use Avira at my home based business and it's worked out really well for me. I've never tried to centrally manage it.

I can only answer one of those. There are so many serious leaks because people aren't being held accountable. Hang someone in the public square for it (figuratively) and make an example of them. Others will secure their data pretty quickly.

Tell my boss that. He won't let me surf porn or make personal calls at work. Cheeseburgers are alright though.

You're missing the point. This isn't so that you can run Android apps, it's showing off a piece of hardware. The OS is beside the point (although I think Android is a good choice to show off the processor but that's more of a personal preference).

I don't think non-profit means what you think it means. It certainly doesn't mean you can't make a profit (I know one that makes a tidy little profit every year). It just means that profit is not the motivator for the business. Usually it means that the organization is operating for the "public good". I'm sure they're chartered as a public service organization of some sort.

Can they do a wireless version though? I have relatively few cables in my house and I'd like it to stay that way. I assume there are more people like me in the world considering how many WAPs there are in my area. It's a fantastic idea and I'm sure it's a fantastic device. I just wouldn't have one without wireless access.
