I no longer accept any money for any services. My reasoning is that if I don't let them pay me, they'll feel really, really guilty about calling me. Hence, by not taking any money, they don't call me as much. It works pretty good, except with family.
Only because when you spend your money on stupid shit us 'right wingers' with 'jobs' have to 'support' your dumb asses through 'taxes' and 'social programs'.
You are leaving a few factors out, here. First of all, that $54k in interest is tax deductable. So, take 18k of that back and put it in your back pocket. Second of all, you're not taking into account appreciation. Realtors generally say that you can count on 8% annual appreciation. On a 200,000 house, after 5 years, you will have made almost 100k in appreciation! Now, 100k, plus 18k, plus 20k (what you paid in principle) is a lot more than your meager 41k that you managed to save by renting.
A lot of people talk about rent as if it is "wasted money." That's not at all true, most of the time. Buying a house is an investment, and investments are inherently risky.
This is horrible advise. Owning a home is always a better investment than renting - renting you are GUARANTEED to lose 100% of your 'investment'. Owning a home you could, but it is very likely that you will see a nice appreciation on your home. Also, the gov't (in the US) will pay you back a third of your interest paid on your mortgage (see: tax deductable), and with interest rates what they are right now it is the best investment you can make. Rent is only a 'better' option if you are looking to live somewhere short term, or if there is a serious differential between the monthly expenses (which there isn't with today's interest rates and such).
It does not come with pico (license issues), but it does come with nano - and you won't notice the difference. In fact, ln -s/usr/bin/nano/usr/bin/pico and you can forget that you don't have pico altogether.. Besides, why not learn a real editor?
In addition, the company runs both the.COM and.NET databases, making it one of the most powerful and influential forces in the Internet. As such, VeriSign's actions often end up being only slightly less controversial than the sport of dwarf tossing.
The "mp3 player" thing was arbitrary. My point was that when I know where I want to go, but I don't remember the URL, i'll search for something that will hopefully point to the right page. In that case, I can tell if it's the right page just by looking at the domain. Sometimes, when I have to look through 100 of them before I find the right page, I don't want to have to look through summaries and page titles.
Doesn't anyone else use google to go to a page that you've been to before, but you don't remember where it was? All you need to see if the domain..
Google is still on top of the market. But, more and more often I am getting bad results from a search. By bad results I mean that instead of getting the best site, I get the most commercial site.
I would really like google to get a feature that instead of listing the name and summary of a web page, lists JUST the domains of returned results. i.e. if I search for "mp3 player", i get back www.apple.com www.rio.com www.othermp3play er.com
I did one at unisys in the twin cities last year. This year, however, the department i was with is no longer doing them. Unisys may have opportunities elsewhere, though. worth checking out
I disagree with the poster. I like a big book that introduces the topic in the first few chapters to someone who doesn't know anything about it. the rest of the chapters have good in depth information - because even newbies at a topic sometimes need to know nitty gritty. A good book will serve as a good reference, too.
If i want to learn something new, i don't want to buy 3 books (one for learning from scratch, one for advanced topics, and one for reference). That's why I really dig O'Reilly books - I find them to not only teach a topic well, but they serve as a great reference after that!
I've got my brother on redhat linux, and it's a pain in the ass for me. He's 13, but all the time he wants me to get something else working - and with linux it all takes so long. besides that i'm a bafoon when it comes to RH (deb rocks).
I don't think he's learning anything, because he just uses mozilla to check his mail and such. He still doesn't know how to do anything with linux.
i think those numbers could be a little misleading. I want to know how the poll was conducted. I'm sure if it was an online deal, more people would think that they should be able to copy cd's. If, however, they surveyed kiddies at the local walmart, i don't think most people would care!
on the flip side, though, who would say that they don't think they should be able to backup their music, unless they worked for the record companies?
So really the bottom line is - the poll is rather pointless. It's, like, duh:)
I might have to start getting best buy's service agreements. HA. Just kidding. Does anyone actually get those? I think that they could only be good on certain things, but most of the time (and by that i mean all of the time) they are a waste of money. I have heard of people trying to redeem them, too, and they have a difficult time. Of course, best buy loves them:) money in the bank, man..
we had a programming competition at my school and we gave away as prizes a bunch of software that microsoft sent us, among other things. One guy took OS X instead of any ms product, even though he doesn't own a mac! Needless to say, this school is hell bent on turning a cheek to ms
"I don't think you can create a password that is easily memorizable that is 20 characters long," Kirovski said.
It is not difficult to create an easy to remember, 20 char password. Emphasizing pass phrases instead of the traditional 6ish char passwords would be a much better solution than this bizarre click on the image thing. besides, how would it work with SSH:)

Who is more cowardly, the Anonymous Coward or the anonymous coward who mods him down?
anonymous coward's can't mod.!

I saw a car on the road the other day with a bumper sticker that read:
"Cruel people eat animals"
So I pulled up along side her, and her car was, of course, decked out in leather.
I find it hard to digest that humans are supposed to take a back seat to animals.
No, animals are not people too. Get a grip
"Scenes or images pop-out at you and change on the fly and are viewable in full color. "
:)
I hope mozilla will be able to block 3D popup ads

No regristration if you go to a nytimes story from google's news page! Why can't we do that? Here's google's link, for example:

I assume it's the partner=google part that bypasses the registration
