    1. There's a difference between knowing how to diagnose that your RAM is faulty and knowing not to open an attachment that you don't trust.

    2. You'll find that many people who are technically inclined tend to have the sort of intelligence that allows for rapid learning of practically anything they want. After having never touched a car engine other than to check the oil, I stripped my 98 Lumina down to the header, removed the pusher rod and replaced the intake gasket. A toaster oven is a simple device that consists of nothing more than a heating element and a thermostat. Writing a book is not that hard, writing a good book is. I couldn't fix my microwave, but I don't microwave forks every chance I get. (About the same as a technophobe opening MyDoom). And no, you're wrong. If the general population were not computer stupid, most of us would not be out of jobs because there still has to be that specialization. We'd just have less stress in our lives from STUPID people calling us wanting to know how to right click the mouse.

    3. A suffix is a term used to denote something at the end of a word. -ly is the suffix to likely. MP3 and PDF's are both acronym's. As far as how people are supposed to know not to open an email attachment: The fact is, there IS a responsibility that comes with owning and operating a computer these days. If your box gets zombied and used to spam millions of people, that is YOUR fault. That means that users need to learn how to avoid that circumstance, not claim ignorance. Try telling an officer that you didn't know that red means stop next time you get pulled over for running a red light. He'll ask you how you got your license in the first place. Ignorance is NOT an excuse.

    4. This point is what makes me the angriest. The fact is, alot of us were nice originally and enjoyed helping newbies. Years passed, nerves were grated, things have changed. I DREAD getting a call from a user asking how to do something on my Intranet because 1, they don't listen, and 2, I've made PLENTY of materials available from which they could use to train themselves instead of calling me. People take the lazy way out because they can, and that is what annoys us. My time is valuable to me, I don't have enough of it. I refuse to waste it helping someone time and again with something that could easily be learned by reading a book.

Unfortunately locks didn't do me much good on Tuesday when someone kicked my neighbor and I's doors in. 2 days later the same neighbor left her car running in the morning to warm it up and came out to find and empty parking space.

(What's weird is that the thieves took a couple chinsy rings and some suits from the neighbors, but left my valuables untouched... Hah, when was the last time you played a board game with a plot? The difference between a video game & a board game is that there are writers & designers involved. My brother is a 3D animator, try telling him that his work isn't a form of expression because its no different than a board game and you'll get hit in the mouth. I'm a programmer, if I were to develop a video game I sure as hell would consider it a work of art because thats how I express myself (among other ways.) There is a LOT of writing that goes into video games. Sometimes the most difficult step is just coming up with a good treatment. Take the technology away from a video game and I'm sorry, but its not 'Sorry'. Any good video game has as much of a story as a good book or movie.

The pins are very sturdy. I'm sitting here trying to bend mine and i can't. You're either exaggerating or misinformed about the size. Yes its bigger, but its not really an issue. And no, the iRiver doesn't have an fm-modulator built in and that's the killer feature. If you haven't owned a Neuros then you really can't appreciate the slickness of having a built-in fm transmitter. Not to mention that when you buy a non-backpack based player you're severely limiting yourself on the hardware. Go buy your iRiver, in 2 years when its outdated I'll be on the latest version of whatever backpack the Neuros team has out and you'll be wishing you didn't have an expensive mp3 player that isn't the latest and greatest anymore.

Wow... that's pretty surprising. I'm hard-pressed to come up with any non-personal uses for IM in the workplace.

Personally while I do use AIM for some personal reasons at work, the sole reason I installed it in the first place is work related.

I'm a programmer (mostly ASP.NET with a winforms project here and there) for a bank and while there are a handful of other developers scattered throughout various departments they're not very high-level concept wise and only a couple of them have even started to scratch the surface of .NET.

That being said, when I get stuck on a bug or design issue or something there's no one I work with who can really assist. I'm not saying this to sound arrogant or because I'm full of myself... Its just that the things I do on a daily basis are things they have zero experience with or knowledge about. So when I need assistance with something I have 3 options:

    1.) MSDN managed newsgroups.
2.) Use one of my 4 available freebie MS developer support incidents that comes with my MSDN Universal subscription.
3.) Get ahold of one of the 3 people I know online that are on the same level.

My first choice is always option 3 for the simple fact that if they're able to help then I've just saved myself hours, if not days. Unless a non-MS person answers the newsgroup post it usually takes 1-2 days to get a response, and usually it takes 2 or 3 responses to reach a solution. Phone support incidents are quite a bit faster but I'm trying to be sparing with those because for some reason, banks don't like to spend money and buying additional incidents isn't cheap. :P

In my mind the time I save by getting a solution from friends online more than makes up for the few minutes of productivity here and there that may be lost by chatting.

Unfortunately for me though, the bank doesn't feel the same way so I'll be removing AIM very soon as they're getting ready to deploy a big-brother type monitoring system to every pc. Joy.

/me puts on anti-flame suit for mentioning .NET in any sort of positive light..
