Perhaps hand-held gaming devices might be more appropriate?
It's a step forward certainly. Not being able to surf effectively whilst on the road is a pain. Doing so from the back seat of a car with your laptop seems like a good idea. Skype anyone?
Is it reasonable for each constituent to send 2 emails a day? If this occurred the MP would be swamped with emails such that none of them would be processed.
If 38 degress was given the time it demands from this MP, it would be at the expense of other constituents which wouldn't be democratic. There is a fine line between campaigning and harassment.
What is required is some sort of easily implemented workaround to prevent these signals from disappearing into the ether.
I'm working on a project similar to this myself where I have used a simple cable, attached it to my router and used a web browser to shut off the wireless function. It's not elegant but it works.
Maybe other slashdotters have tried something similar?
P.S. If anything, the throughout has *increased* and appears to be *more* stable although I have no way to test this with the limited equipment to which I have access. It might just be a perceived improvement.
One of the limitation not mentioned in the article is that it is CRT technology and is 7 feet deep. Integration into cell phones might prove to be a challenge..
Point taken but if ISPs have to pay £x per user they can pass this onto the user who can then download as much pirated music as s/he likes? You will then have some ISPs that stop illegal downloading and some that encourage it - the former will be less expensive than the latter.
This makes an absurd kind of sense and is better than passing the incalculable cost of piracy onto all broadband users. Perhaps this is the new business model all have been waiting for?
Historically, insurance companies that run at a loss, close down.
They make money and they undercut each other to obtain business which decreases profit margins but with more policies that won't matter. I don't have problems with that business model.
Game publishers create games based on current and future products so if your GFX card ceased production 2 years ago you are SOL with new games. I stopped PC gaming a while back due to upgrade costs at a point when Counterstrike ran fine but Half Life 2 was a step too far for my Socket A based PC.
The 360 is just 'nice' to drop in and out of gaming without the hassle of upgrading and you can run all the new games on it as they work to the constraints of the current system. That's not to say there aren't improvements as coding becomes more efficient and firmware updates becomes available.
I'm all for creating a console and replacing it wholesale every 5-7 years or so. That way the games have longevity and the jump to the next generation it large enough to justify a new system (Xbox to 360, PS1 to PS2 etc.)
Unfortunately it is a Western culture phenomena. Processed food and too much of it coupled with lack of exercise will make you fat - and that's guaranteed!
Moving walkways will do us no good and will be a failure not least as they frequently break down - I assume this is why there tends to be severl short walkways in a line rather than one long one.
People also do not seem to realise that walkways are meant to hasten your progress not allow users to rest between destinations. Walking on a moving platform increases progress. This is not a difficult concept to grasp.
On another note, why do so many people hae difficulty stepping off moving walkways? Which part is difficult?
That's rather disingenuous bearing in mind it has been government policy for a while to encourage use of the internet. That and the obvious point that the percentage of population with access to the internet dwarves that with access to the iPhone.
I can understand that developing for the iPhone might be easier as the app store is a great distribution mechanism but it would have been more reasonable to build a web site then develop an app for each platform and release them (or their links) on the website at the same time.
As for the monetary waste, at only £40k, you should see the amount the government has spent on failed NHS I.T. projects. It is truly astounding how corrupt these people are that hundreds of millions can be paid to 'private contractors' with no discernible benefit.
If it was remade with better acting and SFX it would be great but inevitably the plot will be altered for the worse. And why 3D? What possible benefit is there to this unless Logan plans to use a ladder and/or a kayak throughout the film?
I'm not a soccer fan but appreciate the World Cup. I'm sure the US would celebrate if it won the World Cup - it's quite an achievement.
Perhaps the US could ingratiate itself with other countries by becoming more involved in such events?
As has been posted already - the rest of the world is more than mildly interested in soccer (or 'football' as we call it in the UK - not to be confused with 'American football') - hence is it the most popular sport in the world. Worth a look-in maybe?
It is amusing to see friends extol the virtues of Apple to those who are not convinced and/or interested.
The “I just don’t ‘get it’ – why can’t you see it? It’s so obviously the best laptop/pad/dektop ever” line fascinates me. It’s like doorstep religion – if God wants to sign me up surely he will send me an email or something rather than send an annoying zealot. Perhaps God should attend a marketing seminar? Possibly hosted by Steve Jobs.
I agree about topless photos. But if the photos were smoking weed or torturing dogs for fun that would be a different matter. Torturing cats would be fine.

"...tough shit, sister."
And if her brother can do that to her he must feel reeeeally strongly about the matter.

It is quite an unfortunate demo. You can hardly make out that it is a giraffe at all..
All they have to do is record some footage, put it on cycle as in all good heist films and no-one will be any the wiser when it pops its lid. Yay!
iPhone 5
iPhone 5?! Where can I get one??
My money is on RIM. I look forward to the first Palm/RIM interface.

The notion of a shrimp comprehending fishermen or birds rather than an in-built response that light=danger is laughable.
Perhaps the chemicals have increased brain response and the shrimp are now swimming towards their own Tron-like carousel?

"stressed, sick, distracted or socially inept"
That's pretty much how I act whenever travelling. Travel anxiety, a fractious girlfriend and two mardi children will do that to a man.
The test is positive if they don't look at the cup when giving a sample
Dad? Where have you been? I've been worried.
At least it's worth playing. I can't say the same about updated sports games. Tiger Woods 08, 09, 10 anyone?
PGA Tour 2011 new features include: plaid golf bags, new range of OZ rims for the golf cart and increased selection of perk-based apparel (hats)!
As I understand it the test is 99.9% accurate when detecting the stupidity gene.
Whilst on the subject, did you know that dysentery is hereditary? It comes through the genes...
It certainly is a good way to reduce overheads.
(1) "If you find this phone, send Apple $300"
(2) ...
(3) Profit
