    Programming is math, algorithms, nothing more. It's idiotic that you can patent an idea or algorithm. What's next, patenting + and - ? Or maybe Pi?

    + and -? No. Pi? No. A new algorithm for calculation of Pi? Perhaps. Not all software patents are bad but the bar is set WAY too low. At least 95% of all software patents should never have been granted.

    Look, LightSquared. You should've just paid for actual spectrum you could use before. You acted like a cheap bastard and tried to use the wrong parts because it was cheaper, and then you cried when it didn't work.

    You don't have to pay for spectrum, just pay for congressmen. It's much cheaper and more effective.

    I'll bet that's what LightSquared are doing right now, behind the scenes.

    At&T and Verizon beat you to it. There're isn't much if any spectrum left.

    They're already routed through VOIP.

    Perhaps, but they are currently billed against voice minutes separate from data. I'm saying a "data only" plan would both be more expensive than current data plans but you would get to pay for voice calls out of your data plan as well.

    so you want to subsidize phone calls by overcharging on data...

    how is that an improvement?

    New phone model: 2GB cap at double the current data rate and voice calls are all routed through Skype.

    What's impressive is that this got out of Sophos' testing lab and into production. I guess they must not test signatures in house at all. Congratulations, Sophos customers, you've been promoted to alpha testers.

    Actually, it's an incredible show of honesty on the part of Sophos. Perhaps Symantec and McAfee will follow suit and flag their own software as malicious as well.
