Since all he got was the public key, you can't actually decrypt streams that are being sent. What it means is that programs can now stream music to the AEx. This should be really cool, especially once something like AudioHiJack or Wiretap comes along that lets you redirect all your system audio to it. I'd love to be able to stream non-iTunes audio formats that way (real player radio stations and whatnot). Anyways, can't see how this hurts apple - more people have incentive to use the AEx, Apple doesn't have to support their use of it that way, and the protected music is still protected. Hizzah?
iPod plays Mp3s, AACs, AIFFs, and a number of other formats. They're not transcoded before the hit iPod. The iPod disk has a normal filesystem on it and all, so you can look for yourself.
Also, AAC doesn't inherently have DRM in it. Apple just wraps it in DRM for the songs they sell from their music store. I rip my music to AAC using iTunes and it is totally unencumbered by DRM.
Heck, AAC wasn't even around (at least, not the way it is now) when the iPod first came out...
Go to a trendy glasses store and work with someone to find the right frames for you. I found some Kazuo Kawasaki frames a few years ago and it really helped me realize that glasses aren't so bad - speaking as someone who's worn them since first grade and has a ridiculous prescription. Nice light frames that accentuate your face seem way better than expensive surgery that might leave you blind... (or unable to drive at night or whatever)
I've got a DVX-100 and love it. Have shot about 300 hours with it. For indie film work, it's almost the defacto choice these days. The XL2 is very interesting, though I'd personally not buy it right out of the gate. For indie film work, the PD-170 is kind of "meh" - if anything get the much cheaper PDX-10. It'll give you native 16x9 (anamorphic), good low light, XLR inputs and all that jazz. The image it produces is quite nice - even compares OK with higher end Sony cams like the DXC-D35.
Head over to 2-pop.com for far more info though...
People don't purchase cars they can't open the hood. They know when the clothes drier is making funny noises they need to take a look inside and see what's causing the blockage.
I think you give people way too much credit. Most folks I know would just toss the clothes drier when it started making funny noises. Just like many people I know purchase a new computer when theirs simply needs a reinstall of windows.
I agree that a SAN could be the way to go. Moving your storage to fibre instead of trying to throw it on the same network link as your render management and all make sense.
All the SAN solutions out there are rather a bit wonky. Not saying they won't work, they're just all wonky. If Apple's xSan actually performs in the real world the way the claim (and the way it was working at NAB) then it could be the be-all-end-all. It'll be crossplatform and all, with file-level locking. Whether it really works or not...
I'm a comcast user and I thought you wouldn't let you get away with running anything that accepts inbound connections. Does this mean I can get away with openning up for inbound ssh?
Motion "recommends" a 9800 or higher. It requires: -- NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra -- NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 -- ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 -- ATI Radeon 9600 Pro -- ATI Radeon 9700 Pro -- ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 -- ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
After playing with it at NAB on a 9800 though.... I think that's where to be. It is very sexy software.
Clunk clunk from a drive is the drive saying "I cry out in pain! Replace me!"
Seriously - it's likely that gentoo just isn't using the particular sector on the drive that OSX is - perhaps there is a file there that doesn't get accessed regularly or something. In any case, Clunk-Clunk is never ok.
Just for the record, the mcclaren F1 was radar tested to 242mph. There's a video of the run on the net somewhere, with an in-car camera. That's where the official numbers come from.
This seems awfully affordable for launching anything in to space. Even if it is cremated remains, I would have expectede that it would be more expensive. Their webpage claims they have two of these in orbit already though. So all I need to do is find $11k and then cremate myself...
Finished this a few weeks ago after reading the sample of it Salon had posted. A very solid book, and the technical stuff was pretty solid as far as compiler interaction and such. It doesn't paint a rosey picture of life as a programmer though, and made me glad I got out of CSCI when I did...
iTunes doesn't have a way to do it, but there are a number of freeware/shareware programs that will copy music off the iPod, including some that integrate directly into iTunes. Check out versiontracker.com for more info..
You know, I think what makes me associate them most is just the overall feel. I love all the E6 bands, and I think Yankee Hotel Foxtrot "feels" the same. They're not Belle and Sebastian, but still enjoyable.
Listening to the new wilco disc as I write this. It's fantastic, anybody who's into bands like Olivia Tremor Control or Neutral Milk Hotel will definatly dig it.
And, coincidentally, I downloaded the whole album off the net a few days before it came out, and still bought it the day it was available.
My own music purchasing has declined substantially since napster went away and getting music got "harder" - limewire and the rest are ok, but nowhere near as convenient as napster was. I've purchased maybe 10 discs in the last 12 months or so since napster really died, verses probably 50 or 60 in the 12 months before that.
Oh well, they want to shoot themselves in the foot, call us all criminals, whatever, I guess they can keep on doing it.
Now I must go, as I have some commercials to fast forward through, as part of my evil scheme to steal television! muahaha!
I put my Palm IIIxe through the washer last year. After taking it apart and drying everything off, it worked great. I think I wouldn't have been so lucky if it had gone through the drier. The only apparent side effect was that the accuracy of the digitizer would drift after about 30 minutes of use. The whole unit stopped working about a week ago, but I'm guessing that was more due to being banged in my pocket than the long ago washing machine event.
Actually, VPC is on version 5. But it's very hip software...

I gotta agree... I'm a csci/polisci double major... people always say "Thats a weird decision, why are you doing that?"... then I get to explain what happened to all the rights they assumed they had... sigh.
Given the current administrations seeming hatred of all things research or science oriented, I think the better question is whether the next director will choose between Creative Ways to Kill Afghani's from Space (Operation CWKAS), or Creative Ways to Kill Iraqi's from Space (Operation CWKIS)...
I think the reason their return rate is so low is that most stores won't accept cds for returns.
Try to return an openned cd to best buy and see how far you get. They'll happily exchange it for another copy of the same disc, but exchanging defective for defective is still defective.
I have many cds that i've never actually listened to in non-mp3 form. I get a cd, rip it, then put the cd in my rack and listen to the mp3s.
It will be interesting to see how the various portable mp3 device makers react to SafeAudio, assuming it gets widely accepted.
The most interesting part is that most people will probably end up doing a straight pirate copy of a CD off morpheus or its kin if they can't rip the CD. IE, I'm not going to buy a cd that I can't rip to mp3, so I might as well pirate a copy off the net (assuming I dont want to do the cdfreaks workaround myself).
Let us just say... a whole can of worms... opened...

The earlier article dealt with a document file showing the wrong file type because of extension VS resource fork issues.
This is just a case of assigning a different icon to an application. Could be as simple as an rm -rf / shell script with a word icon.
