My high school did the same thing, maybe more than 500 though. There are 5 computers in each classroom minimum, then there are the actually computing classrooms, and the office, all on one T1.

I remember the early days though, when the teachers had just gotten the computers and didn't even know how to set them up, so I volunteered then spent time downloading mp3s at outrageous speeds from the dial up I was used to. Then the horror, oh the horror. Once they all got set up, I don't know what was slowing it down so much, but you couldn't get more than a K/s out of anyone during peak time, which was near the end of class when the teachers ran out of stuff to say. Maybe 3K/s if you did it while they were talking, but it was so atrocious, I wept.

I have AOL. My parents pay for it. They bought it for my use for a Christmas present. Later, they created their own account on it. Since my screen names were there first, I have access to the parental controls. The look on my parents faces when they're told they "do not have access to this area" because their parent said so. Teach them to get AOL!

I do know how to play chess, but I'd say the majority of people I know don't, and I am a pretty hardcore nerd. Ok, so I don't use Linux, but otherwise...at least being a nerd in high school. Actually, as I understood patent law, this actually does mean they can't. Once they have obviously waived their right to enforce their patent, they can no longer choose to enforce it. Thsi prevents big companies like Microsoft from only going after competitors and just leaving the others alone, and that's just not fair to the other companies.

They are starting to cover stuff after 1945 here in CA, but not really well. Also, Economics is a required course, though I don't think they teach how to balance a check book. The other reason I replied is I have a funny anecdote. In my basic US History class (the system decided I wasn't qualified for the AP, so I just got the highest grade in there) we watched movies, and we got to as long as no one: slept, ate, read, or talked (within limits of a high school student). Once, the teacher walked up to the TV, turned it off, and yelled my name because I was reading. Everyone in the class was immediately mad at me. So I apologized, and when the teacher turned the lights in the classroom on, he found out I was reading the history book, because he wouldn't let us do it while he was giving us busy work. Once he had found out, I said I'd put the book away if he'd turn the movie back on, so he agreed because he felt so bad about it. Everyone else just made fun of me. God I hate people.

lol, my Asian friend scored higher than me on math, but I (a white male) beat him overall because he doesn't speak English.

I'm a highly intelligent person, but I argue for keeping the SAT test because of my friend. He scored high on the SAT in math, and he does well in Math classes, but he doesn't look as good in school, mainly because he doesn't speak English (well). Its not his fault, its his fourth language! Now if you eliminate SATs, I would look totally better than him in every way, and I really shouldn't, because he is smarter (Oh how it pains me to say that)
