Maybe it's just my 'give me the cheapest componants you have' method of building computers, but I've had a slew of hard drive related mishaps lately. Most notably when my high falootin external drive fell a whole foot and a half off my tower and broke, taking all the data on it with it. Then recently I just put in a new internal hard drive, because I wasn't going to risk another slight jostle blowing away 500 gigs worth of data. Again, it could be the cheapskate factor, but this new drive is also giving me issues, preventing my computer from booting and the like. Then I had another external hard drive that stopped working after I hit it with a hammer.
I think I'm leaning towards solid state drives after my recent experience, for some reason regular hard drives seem to be really unreliable for me these days.
The correct terminology is the 'Linksys Eruptous'. It's a terrible scenario where a server is so overwhelmed with traffic it tries to leap out the server room and escape the building. They have a bad case of that over at Twitter. They actually have people on staff who're just on standby with nets and scooters.
I heard about this probe. It's really a marvel of engineering. Looking at it you can see it's the next phase in Chinese innovation. The probe they're sending is designed to go to mars, steal the American probe, then bring it back to China. After reverse engineering the American probe, the Chinese then launch their new probe back to mars.
I'm not much in the ways of encryption, but I assume if your computer's encrypted it'll be pretty difficult for this thing to work through the system, if not impossible. Sounds like the cops just want a usb key that has a light that comes on when the law's been broken.
You mean to tell me you're not married to one company and buy everything they release no matter what? How does that even work? You just buy products you want based on your personal preference or something?
Honestly. I'm not so disappointed about the game being turfed now with all this great news about the horrendous clusterfuck the entire production was. It's more interesting just to read about how this train wreck went down. Much much better than if 3Drealms just said 'welp, we've decided to cancel production and move onto something else'. Least in this scenario fans are getting *something* entertaining in an abstract sense.
You're right. It does look more promising. I'm just looking at the site now. Why the hell haven't any of the big companies released something like this?! How?! How?!
I've been hoping somebody would release something like this for a while. I tried to crack the firmware on my psp so I could run some homebrew stuff on it. That failed miserably.
These people will get my hard earned money if their console does what they say it can.
Hard to ignore them when everybody know know does them. Since Facebook changed their layout to show what everybody on your list is doing, it's just a list of all the stupid quizzes everybody took. It's not so much social networking as it is half-wits forking over all their personal information to marketing companies.
Yes you do. And your company has a right to turf you if you're badmouthing them. They'll just say 'well you clearly don't like working here based on all the comments you made on Facebook'
We don't adapt nearly enough technology from old railway times to our modern cars. I'd like to see some sort of modern adaptation of the infamous hobo catcher. Back in the 30's hobos riding on the undercarrages of trains became such a problem that in some cases trains had trouble getting up hills. So the railway companies started laying down spring loaded spikes on train tracks. Sure we don't have the problem of hobos riding the bottom of peoples cars *yet*. Just wait till the economy gets worse.
One of the side effects of a story like this is the young earth creationists tend to latch onto it and say it's proof there was a great flood. I'm not sure it even syncs up with their made up timeline, but you just wait and see they'll start touting this as proof.
So far the only thing I've heard Cameron talk about this movie is about how this movie is going to be ultra realistic 3D rendering. At which point it begs the question why not just use live actors from the get go? The biggest obstacle you have when doing hyper realistic 3D productions is the uncanny valley and getting characters that wind up looking like wax statues. Plus these live action directors have zero head for directing animation. Think Polar Express and Monster House. It's all mocap since they can't deal with regular animation pipelines. And mocap presents even more problems with believability, since if everything's not bang on 100% real, the jerky movement you get with mocap ruins the experience. There are reasons animation principles were developed.
If this movie winds up giving people fake memories it could very well result in horrible nightmares...
I'd like to see a proper multiplayer update for Fable 2. The whole thing of connecting online and having to share a single screen is just awful. It's one of those design choices that makes you wonder if that part of the game was made on 'huff as much gasoline as you can' day at the office.
The Chinese have a traditional knack for obsessing over miracle cures. Most long disproved remedies are still in wide use much to the detriment of their environment. It's entirely conceivable that stem cells could be treated the exact same way in China. It's also not far fetched to see alt-med proponents latching onto worthless though sciency sounding quackery (I'm not saying stem cells are quackery, I'm saying given the current research it's unlikely to be a slam-dunk 'just rub it into the sore spots' type cure)
I'll be more convinced when they start publishing research papers in proper medical journals as opposed to releasing fantastical claims of curing blindness. A couple week ago Slashdot ran an article on how stem cells could be used to cure a certain kind of blindness. It's looking promising but still they're not touting any fantastical claims of cures. They still have to get through clinical trials. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/health/article6122757.ece Meanwhile this article on the Chinese stem cell research has people being completely cured of their blindness. Just like with the old magic tiger bones but with a modern twist.
We're talking about a crowd who've virtually wiped out all the tigers in their country because they believe their bones can cure all the mentioned illnesses. So any news of a 'miracle' cure coming out of China seems a tad on the dubious side to me.
"...saying that he could not reveal any further information on the specifics of Jobs's surgery"
Typical Apple secrecy.

A 20 second boot? What happens after that?

Mainstream computer illiteracy at work.

Jeesh. I pity you fella.

It's a pain. But that's how employment works.
BLOOD WASN'T MEDIOCRE!!
They got caught up on a common criminal snag of the self incriminating ebay ad.
