iMovie works by decompressing and recompressing the music, resulting in a loss of quality. Apparently, this new software works by extracting the compressed stream after it has been decrypted, giving it the distinct advantage of being lossless.

AIFF uses uncompressed PCM. You can choose to apply lossy compression after converting to AIFF if you want to, but nobody's got a gun to your head.

Bundled in with this patch is a change to the behaviour of embedded controls in IE6 on Windows XP, due to the Eolas patent issue [slashdot.org]. This means that things like Flash navigation or Java widgets might not work without being clicked first to activate. TechWeb have a good article [techweb.com] with a summary of the changes, along with some links elswhere.

Amusingly, this behavior can be disabled with either a patch or a registry change.

There was a metal membrane hidden inside a wooden carving, which would passively vibrate with sounds in the room. A strong RF beam of around 900 MHz (details are hazy again, and it's not quite microwave) was directed towards the office from a fair distance away, then the signal would be minutely modulated and reflected by the metal membrane.
