Shutting down an ISP as large as Comcast and leaving 17 million people unable to connect to the Internet. Somehow I doubt our government, while pretty dumb, would be dumb enough to cause a shit-storm that massive.
I imagine he is expecting that immature brats will go on the forums and be like "OMFG I CAN'T CHEAT ANYMORE BLIZZARD U SUCK IM UNSUBBING (from WoW)" on the forums.
This is Idle. I don't know why weird stuff from it occasionally shows up on the main page, but there is a preference to get rid of Idle articles somewhere if you want to use it.
Tell that to everyone else too while you are at it. Lets see here Microsoft is pushing Windows Phone 7's user interface onto the Desktop in Windows 8 as well, with the "old style" mainly being there for backwards compatibility with old apps and anything Microsoft hasn't gotten around to changing to Metro style. Canonical is at this point focused on Unity which is yet another crappy smartphone-like UI so...we are all screwed to deal with this crap ultimately unless someone feels like making a distro consisting of forked code from the days of UIs that actually made sense on the desktop, since at this rate its only a matter of time until Apple makes OSX's UI more like iOS and then KDE/XFCE/random other Desktop Environments jumps on the "make the desktop look like a smartphone" bandwagon.
Lobby a bill that makes it illegal for ordinary citizens to buy their own storage, and require everyone to use a cloud server that is "government approved". Then regularly check said cloud server for "illegal content" (government will try to just say this is CP they are looking for at first), and then royally screwing you over if they find something.
Its mostly news for nerds...but there is always the occasional article about something outside of what is considered "nerdy" coming in, and I see no problem with that. Even more than 10 years ago Slashdot had no problem talking about issues that technically does not fall under "news for nerds". *starts imagining how that day would have been like with smartphones/modern social media*
20 miles per hour speed limiter? How about limit it to just under the speed limit (since GPS's seem to be able to get that these days). It will effectively piss off people in a lot of areas such as Massachusetts (I have gotten passed on a double yellow there for going slightly over the limit...don't underestimate how much this would piss off Massholes). The 20mph limiter would just make the driver be like "FUCK THIS!", a GPS based limiter could troll the driver and everyone around them in the right areas, at least for a little while.
The biggest offender appears to be Roblimo, and I never see anything of value from him, so I exclude him in my options (I only noticed this story because I looked at the front page on a computer I wasn't logged into).
Looking at Micro Systemation's website, they verify who you are and what you are going to use it for before they even start discussions on selling it. Something tells me getting contacted from an Apple email saying that they want to render the software useless is not going to get past that.
How about we all just exclude Roblimo in our user options, nothing of value will be lost (I checked, everything Roblimo posts here appears to be videos, and at least half of them seem like slashvertisements).
Well London is lucky in that case, at least your public transportation isn't proposing to increase fares and cut several of its services at the same time (the Massachusets Bay Transportation Authority is doing this).
If I'm reading this right, then it sounds like the gas pump will refuse to pump out gas unless the cameras see an insured vehicle's license plate next to it. So I'm assuming that to even fill a jerrycan with this system you will need to have an insured car there as well. Of course having a friend with an insured vehicle to take you there is probably enough.
That makes me wonder what the reaction of the last person who ever bought TF2 on Steam was when it went F2P....probably something like "WHAT THE FUCK? A $20 HAT?".
Okay so what if someone marks themselves as safe...then a few minutes later another earthquake hits and a roof falls on their head or something similar. Will the tag expire after a certain amount of time?
Some of us at the moment have to deal with college courses that require the use of software like MyMathLab that rely on flash for basic functionality like answering homework questions. Until those sites feel like migrating to HTML5, a lot of college students are going to need flash to be supported on their computers.
Still, this guy should have been taken somewhat seriously. He had over 20 years of experience, had been working at the company that developed the SRB's for several years, and was ignored even after showing his managers photographic evidence of damage being caused to the O-rings by cold weather with several of his colleagues on the team agreeing.
But still, the total amount of people who were at risk on NASA missions was probably much lower than the number of soldiers at risk of dying in war or the U.S. population at large who is at risk if something dangerous slips past the FDA.
Because 4Chan has never shown up on Slashdot before, right?
And even worse the GP was modded +1 informative.

Apparently the "Find my iPhone" app they were using has the ability to start playing a loud alarm.
Wrong, 99% is sufficient. ;)
the Doomsday Clock is incremented. Since of course if Russia does this it will probably involve nukes.

They will probably just try to make "Ignorantia juris non excusat" apply to the TOS as well and be like "You didn't read the updated TOS? Your fault".

Most Massachusetts drivers would probably disagree with you.

...to what M.T. Anderson envisioned in Feed.
