While the vast majority of model rocketeers are not subject to regulation, high-powered rockets, which can be 30 feet long and weigh hundreds of pounds -- with some flying more than 60 miles or reaching speeds over 1,000 miles per hour -- do need to comply with the requirements of federal explosives law."
After reading the comments, I was all set to believe the government was way out of hand. But then I decided to read the article.
The rockets I use to launch used 'B' & 'C' engines, and when I got older the big 'D' engines. The rockets that that are being regulated ARE NOT MODEL ROCKETS.
I realize that commenting without reading the article is a badge of courage here but you gotta read the article sometime.
How do I know? 'Cause I submitted this EXACT SAME story a month ago and was rejected.
Sigh.
The cheapest RAID 1 OS internal and independent RAID (MIRROR) is Duplidisk3 by ARCOIDE.com
You also get a ton of implementations; Stand alone, PCI card (for power only), 3 1/2" bay, and 5 1/4" bay. The ones that install in bays are so the user can seethe status lights.
If you want an external RAID 5 the cheapest I have found is this - http://www.coolgear.com/productdetails1.cfm?sku=RA ID-5-3BAY&cats=&catid=314,312 It is a 3 bay RAID 5 for $800.
If you want 5 disk RAID 5 those are @ $1200. http://www.cooldrives.com/fii13toatade.html
If you want external RAID 0 or 1 relatively cheap then go with one of these - http://www.cooldrives.com/dubayusb20an1.html
You can find a ton of these devices on the web since they all use the same drive controllers and bays. The nice thing about these is that sometimes you can talk the store into selling you the RAID system without the external case. These things simply require you plugging in an IDE cable and power and can be installed in any PC case that has 2 5 1/4" bays open. If you but just the 2 bay controller they are @ $230 or so. I have one and I am really happy with it.
Everything I listed above uses IDE drives and is OS independent.
Yeah, yeah, i'm gonna get modded down but I gotta vent a little.
I needed to purchase a RAID system so I submitted a request to ask info about people solutions and suggestions about inexpensive ( $2000 ) stand alone hardware RAID systems or using windows or linux with an IDE RAID card.
That was rejected but since then there have been dupes and the bi-weekly VoIP story.
Like I said, I'm gonna get modded down ( and I understand why ) for whining but I do we really need yet another VoIP story?
I remember the old flight-sim 'Strike Commander' would generate the game's maps during installation based on fractals. It used take AGES... this program generates many more megabytes of graphics on the fly.
You think maybe it is because we are using Pentium 4s with $300 video cards than have more processing power than the CPUs that were used to run 'Strike Commander'?
I see one of the three people in the inventors list is Steve Jobs. I guess the guy standing with the whip behind the engineers deserves some credit, but this is ridiculous!
You have no idea how much of the credit should go to Jobs.
I don't either but I'm not assuming it was 0%.
Maybe Jobs made some drawings. Maybe using the scroll wheel idea was his. MAybe by constantly shooting down bad ideas he was able to hone the interface to where it is today.
I just bought a new P4-2800 with a gig of RAM and a nice nvidia card, and installed fedora core 1. I have no particular need to run ms windows, but if I did someday have such a need, I have a celeron 333 in the corner that will be the designated windows box.
With all the money I saved, not having to buy a microsoft licence, I'm going out to buy ut2004 this week!
That is why part of my message was
While linux users may hate to admit it, very few people are buying the absolute fastest hardware out there to run linux.
I guess you qualify as "one of the very few people":)

It works across all platforms, including all future OSes, and it is cheap to buy and operate.
If you want mobile, get a cell phone.

RAID 5 - better keep an extra drive
Or you'll be down until the replacement arrives
No you won't.
That is the point of RAID 5.
The RAID 5 controller will create the correct data and send it.
That is the reason there is a parity drive.
No indigenous humans on the Americas.
Everyone that is here either walked, floated, or flew here.
Microsoft never innovated BEFORE they had money. They don't innovate NOW.

A lot of people who think photoshop is great forget that they didn't pay for their copy BECAUSE IT IS EXPENSIVE.
I got my copy of Photoshop Elements 2.0 for OS X from Amazon free after rebates.
I got my PE2 learning CD from Adobe for free.
Yes, still the first one
At least, it is sex with someone you love.
version of pop-up books!
was a shape charge. :)
you could move your iPod next to your WUSB hard drive and have them sync without the computer
Yeah, I can just see Apple putting WUSB in the iPod RIGHT NOW.
Awesome idea, 480Mbps wirelessly.
I'm still waiting for USB to provide 480 Mbps with wires.
The black box just showed he was lying his ass off.

I was in the pool!
and you say linux isn't copying OS X.
I'm surprised OS X isn't mentioned at the top.

If it was Microsoft doing this, we'd have seen a long judgmental rant with a biased link at the end.
That is because ms is usually trying to patent Apple's research and technologies after the fact.
ms doesn't call Apple their 'R&D south division' for nothing.
If ms ever tried to patent something they invented I am sure no one would be upset.
it uses?
PC wifi equipment is known for only working with the same manufacturer's equipment.
So will they sell a HD with Uniden Wifi?
and one with D-Link Wifi?
And Belkin Wifi?
why they pry it from my dead cold fingers.
I only paid $200 for a lifetime subscription over 4 years ago and haven't paid a penny since.
It's a sad thing to be a huge fan, but be outside their intended user base because I don't have 3,000 to blow on something decent.
I don't have 3 grand to spend either.
So last fall I purchased a NEW dual 1.25 GHz for $1700 and maxed out the RAM at 2 GB for an addition $120.
It is PLENTY fast.
"something decent" does not have to be "top of the line"
hmm, I must be missing the boat ;)
