What if it's genuinely an account you don't care about, that has none of your (actual, at least) private information on it, such as a throwaway email account for registrations, or a newspaper account?
1) R&D spending would be reduced by a factor of a lot since technology would be shared and countries don't have to develop everything separately. A competitive environment, in contrast, encourages secrecy.
2) Economies of scale
3) Having our foot in everything space-related would reduce the likelihood that space stations and ships would be used for war
No, Apple has its niche of high-end computers and will not give it up. From that position it does not threaten Microsoft - Apple does not have a single laptop under $1k, so they have not made any netbooks, meaning that Microsoft continues to dominate the cheap market. Also, Apple has been generally ignoring much of the business scene. Apple does have iPhones and iPads, but those are not markets that desktop Windows could get into. This is why Linux is so dangerous - it attacks Windows in both business and on the average person's desktop. Windows and Linux simply cannot coexist, and Microsoft knows that.
Nothing wrong with price gouging. If you have 50 [insert valuable good here], either the first 50 people to run to your store will get the good or the 50 richest people get the good. In either case, 50 people get it. Just because lives are at stake, that does not mean that the laws of supply and demand get overturned.
"Our iPhones are facing such high demand that if we don't prevent resale people are going to take all of our iPhones are resell them at high prices, and we just can't produce any more! Buy now before people find a way to get around this restriction and all our iPhones get bought up anyway!"
I'd be willing to bet that the only reason Windows 7 is any good is because of the competition from Linux. Even if you don't use Linux you still benefit from it.
Well, technically it's just the release candidate, but I'm installing it. Better now than when everyone else is doing it and the download slows to a crawl.
And all those salaries would go into the pockets of the public, which would then provide the same number of new jobs because they now have more money to spend.
CC licensed, even the NC-ND ones, only give additional rights - they do not impose restrictions that aren't found with conventionally copyrighted media. So can't they use whatever means they have to play normal media (get a license from the producers, use compulsory licensing?) to play CC licensed music?
This isn't just a few million spam messages, this is a few million spam messages sent in a way that maximizes the chance someone would waste time reading them, and with some identity theft mixed in. Slight harm to very many people can, in fact, exceed great harm to a few people.
They attacked the MOS's pay site, which "seems to be a portal to buy authorized copies of artists under the Ministry of Sound label. This is an interesting escalation in the ongoing conflict, as it directly attacks the MOS's ability to sell music". Terrorism is, by definition, when you hit something as a publicity stunt, like the attack on mpaa.org. This is intended primarily to harm their bottom line, thus making it plain old guerrilla warfare.
Seriously, it only goes up 30km. And there is no improvement that can possibly be made to a helium balloon that can make it actually go any higher than Earth's atmosphere. It's a good accomplishment but calling it a spacecraft is a bit disingenuous.
in some countries, Microsoft won't even licence Windows for trade reasons, REQUIRING the use of OSS.
In the same countries where having a license isn't really a precondition for using software. Windows market shares are even higher than normal in those types of countries.
Is there anywhere on an earthlike world where a desert, a dense jungle, and snowcapped mountains are within hiking distance? And where everyone speaks the same language?
The whole point of the movie is that Sintel's quest took so long that the dragon was already fully grown by the time she finished it. As for everyone speaking English, that's not too realistic given how English, French and Spanish-speaking countries are so widely spaced out in our world.
Would it be OK if someone made a bomb threat on the place you are working at because of your employer's business decisions?
Accepting that the employer's business decisions were so horrible that a bomb threat against the employer himself is morally justified, then yes, that would be OK. All the assistants and secretaries are helping their evil employer by continuing to work there, and if they had any moral fortitude they would find work somewhere else. Yes, even if they have to move their family onto the street for a couple of weeks (remember, this is a company doing enough evil to warrant a bomb threat). All the corporate evil in the world would dry up if people would refuse to support it.
That was patently absurd.
Or just a plain old bicycle. Or an E-bike to compromise. Both of those are even cheaper and even more difficult to hide stuff in.
Some phones will take 2 insurance claims, or 3 insurance claims. It averages out to 1 per 11 years.

Why should we? Prove the benefit.

And what's 6 upside down? 9. This is just Canonical making a marketing gimmick to distract people from IE 9.

Can't we just cooperate with everyone?

I read that as "we were supposed to start labour but the 'u' got contracted out so we're waiting for the other letters so we can start labor instead".

Fortunately, in this economy homes are falling off of trees even more than usual.

If everyone was rooted in reality there would be no progress.
As your subject line says, he is a visionary. And that is a good thing.

Malware authors should switch to a crowd funding or donation model!
[Mild spoiler alert]

That's ethical? I say long term pragmatic.
