  1. There is a gross misunderstanding of wealth in this topic.

    The reason personal data is valuable to companies is generally that it can be used to sell that person a product in exchange for the wealth he controls. Companies aren't merely curious. If a person creates no wealth, then eventually the companies are as indifferent to his preferences and habits as they are to those of squirrels. Personal data has value as a path to acquire that person's wealth.

    Other kinds of data creation (like computer programming) have been compensated for awhile now. That's part of the traditional economy now.

    "Consumer" is not a career path.

    I hate texts. I hate that some people think that texts imply urgency for my reply. I hate that I do not receive them on my computer. I hate that I cannot search through very old texts. Texts are just email only shitty.

  13. I wonder how many times the code correctly shut off payments to people who were really dead. 110 is the wrong upper limit, but I don't know that the idea of an upper limit is bad. If the limit were 140, would we feel sufficiently confident to disallow payment?

    All of the exempted activities are gerunds. If the writers wanted the list of exemptions to include distributing, it would have also been written as a the gerund distributing.
