What stands out for me is that the cheapest platform from these results, across 100GB, 300GB, and 1000GB, is actually from Sun - look at the Price/QphH figures. So much for all the hype about Linux solutions being cheaper... although it does show that Linux solutions can be scaled very high when used in clusters.
I always thought that embedded systems were about rock solid reliability - and I don't think that anyone (even Microsoft) would admit that Win98 qualifies.
It's not quite as crazy as it seems: the use of something like Wine would mean that the "Windows API" would run at native (PowerPC) speeds while the rest of the application would be emulated. It all depends on the type of application of course - something with a rich user interface may experience pretty good speeds as it spends a lot of time in the Windows (Wine) code, but you'd have to be mad to run the x86 version of RC5 cracking client on it which use mostly just user mode code.
Potentially more interesting than Apple just using Bochs, would be if they combined Bochs and Wine and came out with a system that could run (some) Windows binaries on OSX without the need for Windows at all!
Certainly not a troll... I have 3 macs myself along with several x86 Linux/*BSD boxes and wouldn't give up my macs for anything... it's just the plain truth, the G4 cannot keep up with the latest x86 processors... now if/when the G5 (or whatever IBM's new Power4 derivative is called) comes along, this may change... we can live in hope...
Wonder why Pixar didn't choose Apple's XServe - I've sure Steve would have given them a small discount!;-)
Although I guess the XServe is more of a file/print/DB server than a number cruncher given the G4's that sit inside the box are easily out-performed by Intel/AMD these days.
So is Microsoft pissed that Apple have release Safari?
Well, if seems strange that HotMail doesn't work with it... I would have thought that the Apple testers would have tested against that before releasing... or maybe they did and something has changed </conspiracy>
If this comes through my fridge could be self powering by using that really old yoghurt that's in it! ;-)
ISP?
You were lucky!
;-)
...the browser of choice for diabetics! ;-)
Sorry!
Yeah, that'll show BOTH of them! ;-)
...and if you look here, you'll see that SCO are still using Linux themselves....
At last a phone for men... the women have had it so good for far too long! ;-)
Honeypot?
I saw this guy on TV and he looked more like Buzz Lightyear!
To Calais... and beyond.... ;-)
China never really has gotten over that "we are the center of the earth" mentality have they?
In my experience the USA has the same problem at times.

Oh my god, you /.'ed the conference call.... You bastards! ;-)
Windows 98 in an embedded system?
I always thought that embedded systems were about rock solid reliability - and I don't think that anyone (even Microsoft) would admit that Win98 qualifies.
Looking at my email, it's only a matter of time before my Aibo offers to make my penis larger, give me a loan, and let me know that hot sluts want me!
Apple created the first PC
Cough,... Altair... Cough!
Remember folks, this is Trustworthy Computing! ;-)
...guess that's saved me a packet! ;-)
Borrow a large dog for a few days! ;-)
There is still some non-military data coming from the satellites: http://www.methaz.com/blogpics/iraq.html

For around $25,000 you too can make Pixar quality movies
...plus the several million $ for the creative talent!
