The actual statistics show that scientists of all sorts are much less likely to be religious than the common man, with mathematicians being the most religious of the group, and religiosity decreasing as you move toward the physics end of the science spectrum. It must be that e^(i*pi)-1=0 bit.
In the modern age, I think it is possible to "practice" science and be religious, but it is not possible to be a scientific thinker and be religious, because evidence is at the core of the scientific philosophy, and there is no evidence for the supernatural.
In the US, completely insane laws, like this one, typically sit on the books for a year before a prosecution, get appealed to the Supreme Court of the US, and are killed by the legal system. Germany and UK both seem to have some terribly misinformed laws regarding encryption and security. Do these countries also have a judicial process for fixing laws, similar to that in the USA?
The judicial system really is great, because the laws politicians pass to buy votes or appease contributors/lobbyists are, for the first time, subject to intense debate and logical analysis. If only such a process were applied before the bill becomes a law, we would have a much more just system...
What crazy world do you live in where Americans aren't safe to travel without living in fear of violent crime? Do you swallow all the Terror and Fear propaganda from the government?
It most certainly is not more dangerous to be an American tourist than any other sort of tourist. Sometimes it's better! In South Africa, some native Africans hate the white Afrikans people who oppressed them for so long, but they LOVE Americans for helping to set them free. And Paris? Really? The French are rude to everyone, especially themselves. But the violence recently has been from immigrants against the French government, not against the USA.
A petty thief is going to go after any juicy target, regardless of nationality. Since Parisians dress well and Americans dress like they are, well, on vacation in Paris, the Americans are probably the lesser target.
I felt no more a target in my world travels than I do in the midwest. South America is an exception, but I was targeted by merchants, not thieves.
It is no wonder you haven't owned stock in 20 years--you don't know what you are talking about.
First, MSFT does pay a dividend. Second, the Fools have changed their favored stock screener many times. Today it is something called CAPS, not "dividend price ratio," whatever that is. Third, dividends most certainly are NOT the only way to make money in stocks without "gambling." Dividends can be cut, book values, revenues, and expenses can rise and fall, ALL of these things affect the value of a company. A stock with a Price/Book of less than 1 is would make you money if it paid no dividend.
All investments involve risks. Unless your mind considers the word "investment" to be synonymous with "gamble" then you can't fairly say stocks without dividends are just gambling.
One more thing: Today, The Motley Fool has degenerated into nothing but a stock-spam company. They send several emails per week with subjects such as "this investment has a guaranteed 4000% return!" and "buy this before the market crashes!" I wouldn't take any investing advice from fools who peddle hyperbolic junk mail like that.
Only two percent of the US population rents in cities, exercises, and uses airlines/subways/buses? There is no way that is an accurate number. In the 18-30 age group, I suspect a majority does all three of those things. Just with that group, you are already way over 2% of the population.
Sure, the TV news bitches about airline travel way too much, and that's probably because they use it a lot, but they also bitch about the price of gas at least as much.
I'm just going to dismiss your post... you say "there was a study" but the results, as you describe them, don't pass the sniff test.
Yes, they do. Eve has "empire space" where laws are enforced by NPCs with big guns. Outside of empire space, you have to buy protection from a player-run corporation, or you just take your chances. Pirates and other criminal players are forced to remain outside of empire space. Eve also has insurance you can buy to protect your in-game assets.
The theoretical dream-training system did not involve in an environment where we watch cinema frequently. It is conceivable that your dreams would be less fantastic if you did not expose your brain to fantastic cinematic experiences on a regular basis.
Your brain patches together dreams from memories. If you have lots of memories of a dead loved one, it is likely they may get thrown in to the simulation.
All of my dreams are realistic. They could be unlikely events, like fighting in a war, but there are no pink elephants or anthropomorphic zebras. Oh, and in my dreams, I'm a great shot with a sniper rifle, so don't mess with me:-)
No educated person could ever vote for Ron Paul, and his knowledge of biology is an embarrassment to all those who hold the title "Doctor." A medical doctor who doesn't understand the most fundamental principle of biology is a shame on his school.
This may be true, but the cost of preserving digital content is halving every year, and can digital content can persist indefinitely; while the cost of preserving film is generally going up, and film can not be preserved forever.
The inhabitants of Easter Island (the one with with those large stone faces) cut down all the trees on the island, destroying their environment and dooming their civilization. It is silly to think that only Western culture can be environmentally reckless--there are many counterexamples. Remember that the "aboriginal" people in Australia and America were thousands of years behind the Old World, technologically. They didn't have the ability to drastically alter their environments. Eventually, they would have gained such technology, and would have followed the pattern every other animal (yes, humans are animals) follows--consume until the environment can no longer support the population.
OK, you would know more about it than I! I am only familiar with Wall Street's perspective. The financial analysts think that China is working to decrease corruption that affects corporations. Corruption against the Citizens of China seems like a silly thing to care about when you are looking at a country which slaughters students for wanting democracy.

Please tell me exactly how collecting passport numbers is going to be useful to you or to someone in Russia.
RFIDs are in EVERYTHING today, including foreign passports, library books, and tennis shoes. You have no idea what you are talking about, fool.
People who travel across oceans for vacations tend to be rich.

Refuse to be terrorized.
If only there were some sort of encryption Infrastructure that used... special Keys of some sort... perhaps something suitable for Public areas...

Are you making fun of them? Better not. They'll shrink your head on a steak and feed your body to a wallaby.

I have never met a creationist who was capable of explaining evolutionary theory.

If it weren't for slashdot, I would never know amazingly pointless facts like this one. Thanks, slashdot.

It is relatively long. It's long enough to have made sure the executives of Enron would have lost their bonuses.
