Umm, yes you did. You win the title of "Troll" for this discussion and lose (with no demerit to your position, just the personal shame of misbehaviour).
No I didn't. I also didn't win the title of Troll either, since it wasn't a trolling post. I also didn't lose the discussion by stating facts. I also didn't misbehave, therefore I feel no shame.
If anyone is trolling, it's clearly you, by attempting to misrepresent my post as Godwin'ed.
Can they also get back the research that was done, now likely digitally archived? That's the more creepy precedent set by DNA misuse. Heck, why would the university want it after it's been sequenced?
I'm not sure what you mean by "get back the research"... do you mean force it to be deleted on the grounds that the data was obtained unethically? Because that would actually be an even creepier precedent. Imagine: "Oops, one of the researchers fucked up the informed consent forms. All our results are thoughtcrime now. Better delete 'em before we get sued."
You mean like how we didn't use all the research that Hitler's cronies derived through torture and mutilation of live human Jewish subjects?
If we can ban the use of Hitler's data sets because they were derived unethically, why can't the same ban on the use of this data be implemented?
Oh, and researches shouldn't be allowed to fuck up consent forms. It's a fucking consent form; it's one of the most important documents they probably deal with. If someone fucked up a consent form so badly it caused an ethical conflict they and their superiors should be severely reprimanded, or fired and prosecuted for criminal negligence.
I think AC nailed it on the head, your reading comprehension is terrible. It's clear from your attempt rebut AC's post that you still fail to comprehend what you've read.
Apple (KGB) staged the entire series of events to garner sympathy for the Engineer (Russia). The analogy clearly stated this. You completely failed to comprehend my post, and AC's breakdown. It has nothing to do with anyone's writing skills.
If my grandfather was correct (judging by all the useless rhetoric on the phone, he was) the goal was free publicity, and it was reached.
2003 called, it wants it's OS back. Oh, and the garbage called too, it wants McAfee.
Ok, so yes there are going to be a bunch of legacy systems that will need to run WinXP for the next 10 years. Do they need to be on the net? If so, for the love of _insert_favorite_deity_or_atheistic_views_here_ can you please not use McAfee or Norton anti-virus products?
Russia. Yeah sounds off-topic, I know. My grandfather (God rest his soul), after watching the evening news and seeing the supposed islamic terrorist attacks in Moscow told me this:
"The Russians are sneaky bastards... I don't believe the USSR collapsed, I think that is just what the KGB wants us to believe. I think the KGB recognizes the weak will in the Americans, and knows to play on our sympathy. I think the KGB attacked Moscow and lied to the world claiming it was muslims, just go gain sympathy from the US."
My point here, is that after this story, everyone is sympathizing with "that poor undergrad working for Apple". Using my grandfather's logic, Apple staged the entire series of events, and in doing so gained the sympathy of a gullible lot.
Now, call my cynical, but I don't give 2 shits about any version of the iPhone, and I certainly don't give 2 shits about Gizmodo or Jesus Diaz. The whole thing re-enforces the notion that people focused on Apple products are just about the whiniest attention whoring fucks that exist outside of Congress.
Jailbreaking your iPad/phone shouldn't negatively affect other users, and apple should be able to lock you out of their ecosystem when you jailbreak your device. It's a value proposition.
Time for a car analogy: I buy a nice New Shiney Applemobile[TM]. I open the hood and see a simple engineering mistake near the air filter, and take out some Duct tape and "fix" it.
After taking my Applemobile[TM] in for scheduled maintenance, an Applemobile tech notices my hack. He makes a note in my service manual, and enters some data into his diagnostics workstation.
When I stop in to pick up my Applemobile, I discover that the steeringwheel, accelerator and break pedals, and gear shifter have been removed. When I ask the Appletech where the purchased functionality went, I am told that Apple should be able to lock me out of their ecosystem because I modified my device!
Apple doesn't have a monopoly on integrated software downloads and purchases for smartphones, it would be impossible for them to have this without having a monopoly on the smartphone market.
Can you link me to that other app store where I can buy applications for a non-jailbroken iphone?
To be unnecessarily extreme, we can essentially pick between Hitler and Pol Pot. While it's a tough choice, it's not a choice I want to make.
Yes, but also don't forget that we citizens were gifted the right to bare arms for specific reasons. This being exactly one of them.

arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority.
2.
the government or rule of a tyrant or absolute ruler.
3.
a state ruled by a tyrant or absolute ruler.
4.
oppressive or unjustly severe government on the part of any ruler.
5.
undue severity or harshness.
6.
a tyrannical act or proceeding.
As for police in the US where everyone has a gun... I have no answer for that. Do whatever the hell you want over there. In sane countries where it's illegal to carry around lethal weapons, I expect the police to also be unarmed.
I get sick of foreigners taking pot shots at us citizens of the USA (you know, the #1 country in the world, for literally everything good in life?). There was a time when we had to kill you bastards on our own soil, to prove our sovereignty. It worked so well we decided to grant it as a right to all of our citizens, specifically to keep the fear of death at the hands of the people in our leaders.
What can you do? Besides get bullied and victimized by your totalitarian regimes?
Nothing? That's exactly what I thought. Good luck with that.
Yeah, go to hell CxOs and government officials that made hand over fist in profits and caused that to happen. Double plus go to hell for trying to fix the fucking problems YOU fucking created!
Did you miss the part where he was encouraging them to do so? This is no different than being liable for inciting others to do any sort of crime.
Whatever you do, never suggest that people write to their senators or congressmen! Certainly the system needs reform when requesting people petition the legal system on your behalf is somehow a crime.
Mustard gas delivered via artillery shells is what you are worried about? Your statements are laughable.
What if they just sent terrorists to do it? Yes I agree that launching projectiles at the US is laughable. However, there are 10's of millions of illegal latin american immigrants. What if just 1000 of them were trained to make chemical weapons with domestic products? They are already here, how do you stop it now?
Your scoffing at potential threats is sad.

Really? See, most people have heard the name Haile Selassie I. Let your post serve as a reminder that most people don't know why they know his name.
Allow me to enlighten you:
He was Emperor of Ethiopia when Italy invaded and attacked with chemical weapons. He made an passionate speech at the League of Nations condemning the use of chemical weapons.
If Italy, using 1930's technology, was capable of developing, delivering, and deploying chemical weapons in Ethiopia, I will go on record and make the claim that Venezuela could do the same to the US, using 2010's technology.

Macs are not PCs. I realize Steve Jobs did an excellent job brainwashing you into thinking that. However, this is just wrong. Macs are closed, and PCs are open. PCs you can run any OS you choose, at any time, without jumping through proprietary hoops (I'm talking about you, BootCamp).
In fact, there is nothing really personal about any of the Macs I have ever used, at work or at a friend's place. They all have a sort of cold, clinical look and feel to them. On the overwhelming majority of them the users don't even customize the desktop. I haven't touched a Mac in almost a year, but can I just say, purple night sky motif is just a fugly default desktop background? There, I said it.
Macs should more rightly be called GroupThink Computers, or GTCs. The way I see it, the only reason to get one is because your peers told you to (I refuse to believe everyone that buys a Mac is truly artistic, and even less of them are artists that simply can't get by without them).
You could have saved yourself the majority of the length of your post and simply said "that movie was sooooo fake it had aliens from another planet in it!".
I have an idea, the next time Hollywood produces a film about things that can't be proved to even exist, you could just, you know, not see it. At least, use the entire premise as the main reason, not a bunch of filler material. Aliens existing, or even visiting Earth; that should be your main nerd rant...
Nah - ISPs may try to shape traffic, but so long as the government stays out of it, two things will happen:
1) Techniques will be developed to circumvent traffic shaping/filtering/prioritizing
-or-
2) ISPs will be formed with the specific selling point of having no traffic shaping/filtering/prioritizing.
There is no need for government regulation here - it would only benefit the existing ISPs at the expense of the consumer.
Right... and when ACTA gets enacted what on God's green Earth makes you believe that circumventing traffic shaping/filtering/prioritizing technology will not be classified a criminal act with mandatory minimum prison terms?
I'd even put $1USD that says once ACTA is shoved down our throats traffic shaping/filtering/prioritizing will actually be mandated by the Federal Government, thus ensuring the labeling of Yet Another Social Group as Criminals.

The genetically modified corn used for ethanol production is not the same breed used for feeding livestock.
