Well I'm a qualified Embedded Software Engineer, Web Developer, and DBA, so I'm not talk out of my ass, I'm talking from experience. Most of what I do isn't science and isn't even engineering, it's typing code into an editor.
Most of Computer Science also isn't science. The only real science in CS is when a new data structure is designed or when someone makes a radical new way to accomplish a task. Entering syntax into an editor does not constitute science, that's just leg work. For instance, applying an established principal to achieve an outcome doesn't mean your doing science, science has already been done, at that point it's application, which well it needs to fall back on scientific principals, doesn't mean it's science.
Okay, 39/100 is an absolute, total and complete failure in all possible regards. Legitimate scientific fields don't get recognized for being able to backup 39% of there research. This goes to show why Psychology will never be considered a real science, it produces unverifiable results and it produces flaky / questionable answers. I'm glad someone took the time to finally put this issue to bed once and for all, 39/100 verified studies is the same as saying: "You're not science, stop acting like it!"
Just don't insult, abuse and ignore the right of everyone who's not white and maybe, just maybe, the riot wouldn't of happened in the first place. If you poke the nicest man in the world repeatedly, don't be surprised when after 20 years of being poked, he snaps and punches you out.
Computer can do what human's can't. To put it simply, most humans lack the proper understanding of both the context and the meaning of there written language. For instance how many times have you ever been told that someone assumed X based off what you said when in fact you never gave off that assumption? How many times have you written a comment only to have it taken out of context?
Yesterday I said on Facebook:
If your live in Ontario and you're planning to vote liberal in the federal election, then you have to proven stupidity has no limit. Just because Justin's father was a rock star doesn't mean he is. Justin is on par with Wynne for most dysfunctional and idiotic political leader in history.
I had women telling that I was suppressing there right to vote, I had others telling me that I was trying to control there freedom to vote, when in fact both are clearly wrong. So I fully support computer based grading of essays.
Just simplify it, most of psychology is immature people who don't want to take responsibility, complaining that they might have to take responsibility for there actions. For the real cases of people who have chemical imbalance, it's about understanding how the brain forms attachment and reason.
What ever happened to a text book, a chalk board and a teacher who knew the material?
We don't need to bombard kids with technology, we need to bring them up with essential skill such as literacy, printing / handwriting, math, science, history and in general all the basic skills that allow them to learn and develop WITHOUT getting technology involved. I would go as far to say that students shouldn't even hand in word processed assignments, unless it's absolutely necessary.
I'm not saying we should have no technology involvement, I'm saying we should limit it. If you want to offer a computer basic course, awesome! If you want to accept typed / word processed assignments, awesome! Just don't mandate it. Kids need less technology and more quality, this entire plan from the get go was to offload the responsibility of teachers and subvert known, good, working practices for teaching.
The school board got bit by trying to fool around, well lesson learned, next time don't try to reinvent the wheel, that wasn't broken and didn't need updating.
Well I happen to have several friends studying psychology right now and I can tell you that compared to real science, what they is mostly hogwash. Your initial analogy was correct, that I'll give you credit for, both that's about all I can give you credit for.
My cousin is studying hoarding disorder and how to overcome it. She's been given money, A LOT of money to study this. None of the people in her study have any kind of chemical imbalance, which as I already stated would completely change the landscape. So far her research at a PhD level has determined that people with hoarding disorder attach false emotional states to objects, which means in other words, they can't rationalize emotion. That's not science, that's a lack of emotional control, they need to mature and stop playing cry baby.
My Sister studied depression, again in people with NO chemical imbalance. People felt sad because they didn't want to grow up and face the world for what it is! Again, not science. More proof people are cry babies.
Just because you put the word science behind your name, doesn't mean you're doing scientific work. Psychology is great example of where the term "science" has been grossly misused and misdirected. Psychology is really about the pursuit to understand why we're all fucked up and explain away behaviour that no one wants to take ownership of. If this publication is going to block anything, block anyone using the term science, because psychology is not science, it's people trying to make excuses about the way they feel and act, which is all boils down to scape goating responsibility for your actions.
With the exception of chemical imbalance, every single person is directly responsible for there actions, case closed, now lets stop using the term science to describe excuse generation.
If the church needs money, why isn't God flipping the bill? I think we should pull all religious funding and rely on the deity of that religion to provide it, if the deity doesn't, then clearly it doesn't care or can't.
Well if you live in Ontario, right now we have a premier who is basically calling all men scum and denying that sexual assault is a wide spread multi-gender problem. She then goes on to fund millions of dollars into programs that can only be accessed and used by females and spreads the word that if you're a man, you WILL sexually assault a female. It's really sad. This is why I take the stance that we must focus evenly on both sides, other wise what's happening in Ontario will permeate into other places.
Any time a user has to enter the same information more then once or has to navigate complex boxes, tabs or windows, you've FAILED!!! Software development has become more about the developer and less about the user. It's become more about maintainability and less about functionality and ease of use.
For instance, currently I'm the sole developer of a major (NDA protected), application which carries out automated testing, logging and stressing of almost 70 products. Each of these products requires it's own set of special criteria, it's own set of special resources and it's own set of requirements, it has to be used by workers in 3 countries, including China and it has to log everything back to massively redundant databases. The expected experience of anyone using my software is basically 0, we don't need them to have to any idea about the products, any idea about the databases, any idea about anything, other then pressing two buttons, (Setup and Commit).
The users don't enter manual information, they don't even have to validate test results as that is taken care of in the program. At the end of testing they're given a number which auto posts via secure transfer to us and shipping information is automatically populated and carried through the system, at which point production gets a label and a box. This is how proper and well designed software works!
Now some smart ass is going to say that it can't work this way in the medical field because you require manual entry, well automate as much as you can and use automated systems to the check the rest. In Ontario at least, I'm not sure about other places, everything is fuelled through our health cards, one scan and the hospital knows all about you, everything they need is displayed. This is step one where automation can take over, why not pull that data and auto populate the system, log it back to a database and secure it! Second step would be to collect all the vital stats from all the machines you're tested on and log that against you. Once you have both sets of information, use automated scanning to generate likely issues you could have and etc...
If done right, the user, nurse or doctor should have very little work to carry out, maybe a check box here or there or a line descriptions, but basically everything else can be automated. If software developers aren't going to go the extra mile and make everything a smooth experience and because of that people suffer, that developer is at fault.
Child benefit when taught by teachers who are qualified and able. As an example, in grade 8, I was taught that the world was 6000 years old, that light traveled in straight lines at all time, that bible was factual and that women were unable to rape men. That is a summary of what I was taught in the last two months of that year, none of the other years were any better.
The only thing Iconic about Future Shop is that it charged 200% to much, had horrible tech service and completely unqualified and untrained works who couldn't even pass a simple IT / Tech Test. I had an interview years ago at Future Shop for a tech position and at that time, I held more certificates then the "Manager", who claimed your A+ ( which is a joke ), was qualification, this was in high school.
Good code starts with the right language for the job and the developer, then you have to follow the best practices for that language. How I program in C# and PHP is far different from how I program in C and ASM. The one thing that doesn't make code is abundant use of catch phrases.
Well because the mass amount of data that would be grabbed in the event of an accident would far overshadow a reasonable amount of capture memory during normal driving, which would utilize a lesser set of sensors and maybe lower grade video, which didn't have to factor into the explanation for the accident.
Step 2 would include choices such as hit the breaks if it would work. I just used summary steps to make it easy to understand.
Your plates store information about your car, hence you know from looking the number up, everything to know about the car via reference lookup. Wireless is easily fast enough to deal with the latency for it so no problem there, infact you could also get information about the driver, so really you do have a good deal of information at your car to decide what to do.
If the software fails for some reason, a good hardware design will step in to save it so again no problem:-)
Well being that I develop embedded level software that could deal with this kind of problem, I can actually summarize exactly how I start:
Lets just assume the object we're concerned about is in front of you!
Step 1: Turn on all cameras and sensors Step 2: Cut all engine power Step 3: Using the license plate of the car in front of you determine what would happen if you hit it. Step 4: Compute what would happen if you hit the person Step 5: What ever has less damage execute Step 6: Dump massive logs to solid state storage Step 7: Call police, send them the files automatically Step 8: Run diagnostics to determine driver error or manufacturing issue Step 9: Done.
Well except that in Ontario Canada, you can't hit a jwalker as you'd still be totally at fault. Pedestrians have total and absolute right of way, you'd have almost a 0% chance of fighting it in court.
Just weight the situation, if the car you're in is going 40 km/h and you know that you can slow to 20 km/h then hit the car in front of you because the pedestrian won't survive. Also you'll have access the license plate, so you can easily look up information on the family in the car and get the stats of everyone in the car. More then enough data will exist at the time at the accident to judge it properly, what is the issue? You'll have more information then any normal driver would. It really is just black and white.
The master records should never reside at the school or even the school board in the first place, thanks to nightly back ups and redundant copies of critical data, they have nothing to worry about. As for catching up once the system is unlocked, that is just simply a case of data entry, which is time consuming but can get done if you just do it, so again, no real issue. The software should be flexible enough to not care when the data gets entered so that shouldn't be an issue and if it is, time to look for new software. So if everything really does to hell in a hand basket, it all doesn't matter because you can go at it manually.
It's funny that schools got along without computers for thousands of years, now all of a sudden they're required. Well how about going the non electronic route until the problem is solved...... not that hard to figure out.
Absolutely, Mother T was insane, she was directly responsible for the deaths of MILLIONS of people and did it all in cold blood with no remorse. At least Hitler knew what he was doing was killing, Mother T actually thought she was helping. MT forced sick and dying men and women into conditions that wouldn't of been suitable for animals, let alone humans. People under her care were denied medical attention, hygienic conditions, sterile conditions and all forms of proper care. She allotted a space no bigger then a cot to each person in her death camps and forced them not to move. She didn't allow people to shower, clean up, see doctors, get medical attention or even see a fucking nurse. It's been well record that many in her care would of been fine if they would of seen a doctor, yet she denied even them! She was the direct result of MILLION of people dying.
She also used her corrupt moral fucked views to influence governments into blocking birth control, abortions and common sense. Every single person harmed as a result by her actions in that matter is a death on her head. Every rape victim who couldn't abort the child of the monster act and who by direct response would of been killed, is on her head. Every girl disowned by her family because they got raped and couldn't abort, is on her head. She was a monster, she is worse then Hitler, she is disgusting human and I'm glad she's dead.

Nothing is holding back women form entering science / engineering. I would say leave everything the way it is and let those who want to come, come.
Change the password! If you're not going to be proactive about security, why should anyone help you?

Welcome to modern software design!
