There is always a differance, you won't get the same hardware, it will be slower. You won't get the same software, it will be badly integrated with the rest of the phone. And most importantly I'm not sure we will ever see the sourcecode, and this is the bad thing. These phones won't sell that much, but if I ever get my hands on one I would love to have the Source code,... I've talked with chinese firms it's hard enough to get it right when you have a contract.
I want one if it's cheap, and if I get the source, but that's because I can stand sucky interfaces to be able to fiddle with the source.
Actually to install CD less laptops a much better option is to use netboot install.. It's usually very fast if you have a good connection, and very flexible as long as you have another computer standing by.
I always try to buy a Laptop that uses components that are supported by Linux, you can't buy a incompatible Laptop and then complain that Linux isn't working, that's like trying to get Vista to work with that ISA ethernet card. I actually went the other way around, I thought Windows would be enough for me but after 4 months I switch to Linux, haven't had much problem since.
The thing is if something sucks on Windows/MacOS you can't use it, but if it sucks on Linux you can work around it. So even though Linux support for Bluetooth was neither better nor worse, it allowed me to do an easy shell script to get it working.
The more automation you have the more important the people you have are. If your workers don't care for quality you wont get it from the machines either,
Have you ever counted money? It's pretty dull work, and just counting pennies all day long is going to be very very boring work. So I bet you they are going to care.
OpenCaptions work pretty well, but you don't have subsecond control over when the captions should start. So it can be hard to get right most of the time.
an atom might have an diameter of about 0.1 nm, they say they have a perfect sphere which is just 35nm from being perfect, what ever that means. So you don't need that many positions of PI at all..
I need to beable to filter stories, so I can remove all stories that are named "the [number] of things done by [something]". I think they are tabloid shit.
I've been using the S/MIME plugin for Firefox. and it's great. I'm not sure I like the way you have to apply for a certificate from Thawte, but it works and it's very painless.
This is not painless and easy, and IMHO S/MIME is alot nicer implemented than PGP signatures.
I wonder how many subscriberse WoW has, it was 7 Million in August, I'm guessing it has grown since then. Now I wonder if Blizzard is going to launch something similar to Steam, they sure have the user base to support it. And competition is badly needed, Steam has become alot better the last years, but an alternative would be great.
I like the idea with buying online, it's so damn fast and gratifying. You can just get the game without searching for cracks and stuff. I've bought Half Life 2 on a whim, it's wonderfull for casual and non gamers.
I would love to buy ordinary programs this way as well.
The fact is, both licenses have their place. GPL is for folks that want to spread religion in the form of restrictions on developers rights.
Actually it's restriction of business rights. As a developer you have more rights, you always have to right to see the code other people develop. Your comparison to the religon and national wellfare state model is flawed, since that means you as a receiver have to pay membership fees or taxes to receive that benefit.
I'm not sure what BSD is anymore, I thought it was the same as PD but you had to give recognition, but ven that isn't true anymore. Looking at GNU, the religion thing seems like pretty heavy satire from RMS to me.
I pay between 0 cents to 7 cents per SMS, depending on what plan I choose. Now the question is should that be something phonecompanies could do for you, choosing the best plan for you. Sure one big hurdle is that most flatfees are paid one month in advance and the per minute cost is paid after that month has past.
But really there is nothing except that that hinder the implementation of letting the phone company choose the cheapest plan for you..
The BSD feature is the same as ext3cow, and it's been there for a while. The LWN snapshots were very cumbersome some years ago, and they are block snapshots not Filesystem snapshots.
It's very hard to find mud huts in Argentina and I don't think there is a big fraction of the population living in huts in either Brazil, Libya, Nigeria, Uruguay nor Rwanda. And I can promise you that if they were fixable in the field, there would be an cottage industry growing in a mattar of months.
People don't want to be locked into something, so they fix things themselves.
I have been doing this on and of for two years, I first bought a 1GB CF and placed it in my PC CARD port so I could use my basic stuff with out using the harddrive. It was very nice, but sadly a bit slow, I think it was the PC-CARD -> IDE converter that was the problem. Then a year ago I bought a IDE 2.5" -> CF converter and a 2GB flash, and it works wonderfullly. The 2 GB is enough for most things, and I get no HD heat, nor noise from it. Wonderfull.
Though the CF converter or CF card I have doesn't support UDMA, which still makes things slow, but it's ok.

eh... H264 hardware decoders zap batteries in their sleep, literally.

The radio chip design is bought from Ericsson which most certainly is not Japanese.

Perhaps I should explain abit more, the GPG plugin has problems with GMail wordwrap, and correctly verifying signatures of emails received by gmail.
But it works wonderfully to sign short messages, but nothing more complicated.
It took quite sometime for the S/MIME extension to mature enough to be usable, so this may work in a couple of months..

Take a look at http://weddingshoes.com/ it's a very good link farm. I would click on those links if I really wanted wedding shoes.

I wonder how a MITM attack could do that..

I thought most people liked zsh more..

I have no problem at all.. Must be your adapters.

Current setup:
X40 + 1GB DRAM + 4GB CF
My hard drives weighs in at 40GB and I had no problem replacing it with a CF card at 16GB.
So I guess I won't beable to watch any movies with my brand new non-HDCP compatible 23" DVI monitor.
