I think the claim about soldiers not thinking was made to point that the person giving the orders is not an issue. If your commander leaves the unit then another is put in his place without an impact to the performance of the unit. Unlike in civilian world where everything revolves around inter personal relations etc. Soldiers follow or don't follow orders based on the rank and not the persona of the commander.
The principle is that a TrueCrypt volume is created within another TrueCrypt volume (within the free space on the volume). Even when the outer volume is mounted, it is impossible to prove whether there is a hidden volume within it or not, because free space on any TrueCrypt volume is always filled with random data when the volume is created* and no part of the (dismounted) hidden volume can be distinguished from random data.
I think it's pretty fair call seeing how the Iranians are the only country with F-14 still in active service http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-14_Tomcat. I highly doubt that they are able to buy spare parts from the Northrop Grumman directly.
Probably by letting the copyright holder use existing copyright law to prove it. Wasn't that the old procedure? They waited for the court order to remove any content but now that it is automated do you really think that there will be a verification of the claim of copyright before the video is put offline?
Well not for hitting the child but yeah, I'd like to think we are the bunch that builds rockets, huge bombs and other crazy and exploding stuff for the sake of it. Sometimes it's not cool to have a nuclear reactor in your basement http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/11/21/0422206 but I was happy for the kid and sad that the rest of us were wimps relying the Government for our nuclear needs. Just last week we cheered some folk who decided to make their pack of explosives look like an X-wing http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/10/07/159251. This is not the slashdot - think of the children -edition just yet.
Well not to defend anyone but imagine the tool where "copyright holders" can get any content disappear without human review. The dudes and dudettes holding the copyrights are a pretty fishy bunch and by no means are they people like us. Now imagine a video showing Mitch Bainwol (Chairman and CEO Recording Industry Association of America) in compromising position in a public place where filming is not illegal (if such places still exists in the USA). He can make that video or any other video he dislikes disappear by submitting it to Youtube and claim that he is the copyright holder.
How is youtube going to check the claims about having copyrighted work as part of the video?
The Bible (and God it's author) does not condemn killing in defence, punishment for a crime, or in wartime. What was that thing about the other cheek? Wartime? Man what are you talking about. The bible makes no difference between peace time, martial law or a period in history where the president has ordered the trooper to occupy a foreign nation but has not declared a war.
Those are just a cop out to say "we are really sorry and would like to follow the rules, but dude, we have this special situation that forced this upon us."
Killing as a punishment for a crime? I would like to think that Jesus would object to that. Wasn't there something about stoning and sinners in the bible?
The saddest thing is that you are the loser here. I'd like to think that you wanted people to read your stuff. I can't imagine that paid downloads are a real hit, especially with the book people. The current way to get paid for things that are easily copied is through good will of your readers by selling them merchandise and asking them donations. Especially if this was your hobby. Everybody likes to get paid but when you compete with the professional writers in a market that sells new books for 20EUR and 6 months old books for 5EUR you really can't expect your audience to ignore these rules. And much like with the software you really shouldn't make the potential readers go through any more hassle if they somehow land on your site. Like to whip out their credit cards and assess the risks in giving out that info to yet another small business that has no big name backing etc.
Of course since this is the internet I made up all the facts as you didn't provide them but I feel sorry that you stopped writing because somebody wanted to read your material. Anyways, welcome to the future.
But in the Real World [TM] all PZEVs get excellent mileage, compared to high-emission vehicles with the same weight, capabilities and options. Umm. How about the BMW 328Ci Coupe http://www.driveclean.ca.gov/en/gv/vsearch/cleanse arch_result_des.asp?vehicleid=227 That is a pzev but the mileage is 21 city/30 hwy which does not sound so extraordinary to me. Correct me if I'm wrong but like you said in your original post
difference is typically a bolt-on component or two such as the typical "smog pump" system. and to me that does not reduce emissions at all.
You missed the point completely. The PZEV refers to particles that cause the smog. While your hybrid Prius is also a PZEV it does not mean that all PZEV cars are hybrids. They just don't produce CO or NO2 emissions and that says nothing about how much gas they consume.
I don't think that you have the option of keeping the current level of pollution going for much longer. And do not expect the price of gas to go down no matter what. Opec controls the supply and if the price drops too low they stop selling it and therefore raising the price. Oil business is hugely profitable http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/ performers/companies/profits/ and the fact that the oil is a limited resource only gives incentive for companies not to sell now when others have oil too. The optimal strategy for oil business is to sustain the consumption levels high keeping the price low enough for alternatives to now become too cheap while restricting the production and therefore keeping the price as high as possible.
But if the current gas price is killing you then I really don't see any other options than to sell your car and hope that public transportation system suffices. For reference the price of gas (95 octane) in Finland is 6.77 USD per gallon and we too think that it's high (while we do know that the Norwegians pay even more). The real measurement of gas price should be the number of people who drive less because of the price of gas and I'm yet to see a drop in gas sales.
I realize the green flag is a popular one to wave around here, but what are our real options? I hate to see natural resources contaminated, but I hate to pay such high gas prices, too. Perhaps you should make a short time sacrifice and end the massive state subsidiaries to big oil and even the field for alternatives. I mean the tesla roadster http://www.teslamotors.com/ looks like a step to right direction but the fact that oil prices are kept artificially low means that the road for any alternative is massively hard. (I do acknowledge that oil is taxed heavily but at some point we need to put a price tag for pollution.)
What about the positive effects of the prions?

Creating Prion-Free Cows

Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prion mentions this article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=p ubmed&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=AbstractPlus&list_uids=159 31169&query_hl=6&itool=pubmed_DocSum that mentions the prions in relation with long term memory. I wonder how well they tested the cows without the prions. (Abstract below)
Changes in protein conformation drive most biological processes, but none have seized the imagination of scientists and the public alike as have the self-replicating conformations of prions. Prions transmit lethal neurodegenerative diseases by means of the food chain. However, self-replicating protein conformations can also constitute molecular memories that transmit genetic information. Here, we showcase definitive evidence for the prion hypothesis and discuss examples in which prion-encoded heritable information has been harnessed during evolution to confer selective advantages. We then describe situations in which prion-enciphered events might have essential roles in long-term memory formation, transcriptional memory and genome-wide expression patterns.
No way! News are good. Like that important piece of nerd news that you can now see corporate logos from space. (though it was still a bit unclear if they have a drive in lane in the orbit)
Well not really. He got 62,040,610 votes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._presidential_ele ction,_2004 and last I heard the population was over 300,000,000 so only slightly more than one in five person voted for mr President. And if you count only those who actually could vote then out of those only 60% showed up and half of those voted for Dubya so less than third of the nation reelected him.
Well yeah but a negative example ruins the hypothesis. If you say that drugs are bad and people would all use them 24/7 without the war on drugs (WOD) then this disproves that.
While it's true that it's bad to exploit people but I don't know the full detail on the Nike business but it seems humane (in a way that it's not toxic or harmful in that sense) to the workers while the working conditions are probably apalling by western standards it will help the women get their freedom. Without income they are forced to the dependendy. First to their fathers and then to their husbands. They can't make the decision whether to have children or not etc. If they get work they will climb to the first ladder and they can choose the place they want to live and if they wish to leave their husbands it is a possibility. Their children get education if the mothers pay can feed all of them etc.
It's bad but the answer is not to not have factories there but to not exploit them too much. And by too much i mean situations where materials are too toxic for western workers or they need too much protection here and then they produce it there without any safety protocols.
Sure but the rebate business is not free for the company either. Someone needs to open up the envelopes and find the flaw in the application.
The whole rebate thing seems silly for me (we don't have rebates here) but I guess it's similiar to showing prices without taxes. Seems odd to me that the sticker shows 7,50 but i have to pay something else.
Two things bother me. First while they can't take away your dreams, they can make them less accessible. Like the Concorde. I'm too young to actually have been dreaming about that (only 25) but sure, if I could afford it, i'd do it. Now while it's still possible for me to reach the speeds it's considerably more difficult. So i'd say it's a loss while I agree that I'd probably hadn't flown anyways.
And the other thing is the zero emission vehicle. Guess you've never lived in a city (neither have I) to realize that while you still produce emissions when generating electricity it's much more preferable to do it in one place where the emission can be controlled and not in a 250 000 000 small power plants that pollute the exact same air the people breathe. (I'm Not trying to suggest that people in the countryside (where the big plants are) aren't people, but they aren't suffering from pollution like the other people who live in the city.)
Well they are not the only ones. Well depending on what you call different religions but other http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abrahamic_religions Abrahamic religions have odd rules too. Like that dude Moses from the Bible who commands in his 2nd book (21th verse) something about selling your own daughter as a slave or in Exodus 35 where he states that: "
2 For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death."
You don't even need to be enemy, just work on the seventh day. Seems a bit harsh to me. And your president talks with this persons god? What about slavery then? The third book of Moses (Levictus) states that: "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves."
Cheers
There was an insident in Finland where (young) fans would translate the english version in a group effort where each one of them would translate a small section and then they did combine their efforts by posting it to a forum.
Well as you probably guessed the people doing the official translation were not amused but it just shows how much can be done with a bit of group effort.
Hey, not all of us were on the *right side* during WWII. We had one of the greatest ideas, certainly good enough for a Darwin award as our government decided to try our luck and we attacked the Soviet Union after we lost a war with them only a year earlier. Yup, we had population of about 3 million and we thought that maybe we should expand a bit as it was getting crowded. Guess nobody can claim us cowards. Go Finns.
Well you can clearly see that there was a demand for said movie. It's not like they claim that all of them would have gone to see the film, then the special edition and would have purchased the 3 different version of it plus the art of said_movie book, soundtrack and score.
You have to remember that they make money from rentals and even the tv airing of said movie. And when you consider that 95% of all movies are ones that you only see once and thus the industry loses money when tv ratings drop and rental money goes down.
You can argue that there is not a proper distribution channel out there for seeing the movies that aren't worth the time it takes to see them, but they can say that they are working on it. Like a $.50 micropayment and download service after the movie is sold to all other places (rental, tv, dvd, movie etc..)
(all statistics were made on the spot and the rest of the said "facts" should be read as opinions too. Including this disclaimer.)
Imagine trying to understand 735 documents composed of such language, some of which can be many many pages, or make "small" adjustments to current laws. Some bills, I'm sure, are written and titled to purposely obfuscate their true intentions as well.
I wouldn't be too worried about the senators not being able to understand but think of the said producer that the bill you cited talks about. I mean it's your government and you have to follow the laws. You have to understand and certainly not all citizens are able to hire their law reading staff, are they?

But isn't every citizen of voting age already a legitimate military target in a democracy?
