I don't think we will be able to overcome these (and many other) problems in my lifetime.
OK maybe not in our lifetime, but mankind didn't invent and develop the MacBook Pro in Babbage's lifetime either. Many things take more than one lifetime to achieve. But that doesn't mean they're impossible to achieve with our limited intelligence.
I don't believe that. I think with time and the political stability and the resources and determination that is needed, we can make a starship. And then years later we can find a planet with beings on it that are just as intelligent as we are, but still in their Medieval period.
SL is so extremely overhyped right now it seems like the new Internet of the late 1990s. People even have conference chats in there, and now we need to have schools in there as well? Get a grip guys, and focus on the quality and results of your work. Doing your work in a new and cool way isn't always better you know. The only ones who will profit from the hype is the Linden 'family'.
Does this mean they don't have to pay all those fines the EU imposed on them, AND they get money for the licenses? That seems like a win/win situation for MS doesn't it?
I would like a small quantum computer with a big 3D screen and an infinitely fast internet connection that I can play MystOnline on. That this computer should harm the environment as little as possible goes without saying of course.
All the money you pay for these cases could better be spent on the technology that is inside them. If I was a shareholder and 'my' company wasted money om this I would invest my money elsewhere. Of course people should decide for themselves if they want 'beautiful' computers in their home.
The guy being disabled should make no difference whatsoever to the case. It just has nothing to do with it. The fact that he is disabled should not make a difference in the outcome of the trial. And BTW, I agree with you that the RIAA are moronic retarded greedy bastards etc. I wonder if they have to pay the legal costs of the defendants when they lose cases like this.
The title of this item on/. is: Funcom no longer making offline games. But the article states Funcom said they decided to stop making "traditional" offline games. This could mean they will only make non-traditional offline games, like the ever more popular episodic games, or games you need to download and activate online to then be able to play offline. Nothing has been said about having to have an internet connection to be able to play the games. You cannot even conclude they will stop making boxed versions of games from TFA. The FA also mentions an AdventureGamers article they don't even bother to link to. You can find it here. There is also a discussion going on about this on the AdventureGamers forums.
I recently decided to download all music I want instead of buying them. As long as downloading music for personal use is legal in the Netherlands I have no problems doing that until the music industry 'sees the light', and I can download stuff for a fair price and play it on whatever I want. I used to buy stuff on iTunes but I find it very annoying that I can't play it on my Linux machine. After I read that the music industry vented the opinion that CD's should cost more than they already do something snapped inside me.
A nice example of this is the Canon Powershot S1. When I bought it, it did what the specs told me it would do. Then there was an upgrade that fixed some bugs. And after that there was another upgrade, and suddenly it had a macro function! It would now make sharp pictures at distances as close as 5 cm instead of 10 or whatever the specs were. Suddenly it turned rom a nice camere to a very nice camera.
My father makes a backup every year. And that's quite often compared to most friends I have. They never back up their files. I even know two people who worked at my univeristy who also never made backups, and lost parts of their Ph.D. theses due to a harddisk crash. Most people don't understand the importance of making backups until they lose important files.
Hehe, you're right. Stupid me... :)

O, freedom fries! What a terrific demonstration of American narrow-mindedness.
Huh? I heard from many people that Gates was a good programmer way back in the 1970s.

The Americans also ruled that MS used unfair practices, and they also kept buying their stuff. So what are you implying?
Neelie Kroea is a woman. Or should I say, and iron lady?

They are really good, I like them better than the screen on my 15.4" MBP.

Who modded this flamebait? Disabled people can be criminals too you know.

Two, I guess ;)
The difference is that gas was pennies in the sixties and is over three dollars a gallon right now
You don't know how good you have it. Here in the Netherlands I pay 1.35 Euros a litre, which amounts to 6.5 USD a gallon.
... calling your colleague an amateur.
It looks like it's really true that the only thing MS can make that doesn't suck is a vacuum cleaner.
No, I want pidgeons with freakin' "lasers" attached to their heads!

That works for nerds like you and me, not for normal people. Trust me, I've been there.
