But all managers do that. That is their way of telling to themselves that they still are on top of it and know what's going on. Which is untrue of course because they have been away from the people who do the real work for so long they lost all contact with reality.
I work at a university, and I've talked to some people there about MS going into the AV business. What amazed me was that there were some people who find this a Good Thing. Even people who are considered extremely smart and routinely publish highly technical papers in established journals can be mindbogglingly stupid.
Everybody who has ever attended a conference knows that this is the place where ideas are stolen. So if you think you have a smart idea, you should NEVER talk about this on a conference.
Thanks for your elaborate explanation. Unfortunately I have a non-slot loading iMac. It's made in 1998 according to some printing inside. I also have newer stuff (MBP) but I love this machine, so I still use it a lot.
I have the same problem:-) And I don't have the slot loading model either. This one is older.
Let me tell you that I am amazed how good OS 10.3.9 runs on this old machine. OK, it's slow, but it never crashes (I have 256 MB of memory (put two 256MB chips in of which it sees only half the memory)), and iTunes hardly ever stutters, even when I have X11 + Firefox + Thunderbird + iTunes + Skype + xdvi running. It's fantastic!
Therefore, the article summary really isn't the affront to history that you make it out to be.
It is. The Russions were there first. Doesn't matter how many seconds later their craft died. See here for a nice overview of missions to Mars. Took me a while to find it since NASA doesn't talk about anyone else but themselves... Not exactly rewriting history but fishy nonetheless.
That would be fantastic. Finally we would have computers in our university that Just Work, and not have to be reinstalled every so many months. The only problem would be that our SEM, e-beam, FIB and some other equipment then will not work until new software is written for it. Most of the other software we use also runs on other OS-es luckily.
I wonder how long it would take a Western society to change to Linux / OS X if one day, suddenly, all MS software had disappeared from all computers.
The article goes on about turbulence as if you can only draw these patterns if you know the maths and laws behind it. That's a bit like saying you can't catch a ball tossed to you if you don't know Newton's laws.
I sure hope you're right. But remember it's all about the applications, not the OS. And if MS continues to have a stranglehold on the office suite market, nothing will change. Let's hope ODF continues to spread. Then we will see some change.
I've been using Linux for more than 10 years now, and it always would take over the desktop in 5 years from now. Dream on boy/girl! I'm afraid it'll never happen.
I laughed my head off. This is one of the funniest articles I read in a long time. Maybe the fact that I love lists like this added to the fun. BTW, it seems many people like to be annoyed or we wouldn't have lists like this:-) I can't wait for the Worst tech of Q3 2006!
No.
Use common sense.
You're getting older man.
I found it funny. And I'm a nerd (just like everybody else here).

I just bought a MacBook Pro. That'll do just fine :-)
Mac fanboi's unite! Except for those 10.3.x users - upgrade to a real OS already. Geeze.
Tell me how to get 10.4 on my iMac G3 266 MHz without doing arcane things then. No DVD, no firewire.
Well, when you're popular you get invited to all the important TV shows. And that's when the big bugs start rollin' in!
1. Dream up a far-fetched 'theory' that Joe public can understand and involves strong emotions ....
2. Seek publicity
3.
4. Profit!
Good point, I realize that I should have been more careful in phrasing that.

Teacher: What! You're 15 attoseconds late! Again! Go stand in the corner!

No way. I have my own site thank you.
Is there a way to skip point 3?
However, most people can't render a decent image of a lit box.
If they just wait a while they can make an image of a small heap of charcoal. Most people can manage that.

Can someone mod this person down? Posting the same text in every thread is kind of annoying.
I don't know how greedy this guy is, but yes, he may end up with a paperclip instead of the world :-)
