I just use a text document with point-for-point descritions on how to follow the procedure. It's practical because you can print it and take it to the workfloor and cross the points you've finished. When you find out something new you can easily write it on the paper and add it in the computer file later on. Just make sure there is only one person maintaining the file, to avoid chaos and misunderstandings.
Cellular companies who want exclusivity complain when phones are unlocked to work on any network.
I used to think this utterly retarded policy was only used in the US but since the iPhone we have it here in Europe too. I sure hope the EU will soon do something about this. It's absolutely rediculous to not be able to buy the phone you like and use it with your provider of choice.
They do it in Europe too. As an inhabitant of the Netherlands Aplle does not allow me to buy something from the German iTMS. I can, however, drive to Gronau in 15 min., buy the same music on CD there, and take it home over the border with no legal issues. What Apple does in the EU is in fact illegal, and the EC has been investigating this for the past three years or so, I guess. Knowing the amazing speed of the EC I think we can expect a verdict somewhere around 2012.
In our group, we are working towards a goal, which is to manipulate light in many intricate ways. We use a lot of software for managing our equipment and data. The choice of software depends on its performance and its ability to suit our needs, not wether it's open source or not. We use a lot of open source stuff though: Linux, Firefox, and some scientific software. We also write software ourselves if necessary. But we usually don't open source our software because we want to keep our position in the top of the field.
When XP has totally rotten away we will finally see Office for OSX and Linux. Yes I know Office for OSX exists but it isn't even very compatible with Office for Windows so it doesn't count yet.
You got ripped off by your government. If the ISPs didn't hold their part of the bargain they should be forced to give the money back with interest. That would probably mean all of them going bankrupt, which is good because new, small companies can then take over. Small companies are prone to listening to their customers because that is what they need to survive.
The way you talk about your employees gets me thinking about slavery. Besides, the situation you describe is what we had in the 1800s. Those employees fought for a better life and finally got the laws made you seem to hate so much. Have you ever lived and worked in Europe?
Nice list, but it's definitely not complete. I only play adventure games and there are quite a few beside the Myst series that use Ogg. And the use of Ogg in games is not the same as its use on portable music players, of course.
I didn't buy an iPhone (the App store is just one of the things I find wrong with it) and I'm following the development of the Android with much interest. I can't wait until it's available here in NL so I can see what it is exactly, but then my trusty Nokia has to break down first before I will buy it.

Free as in speech, of course.
So now Cuba has free software but not free people? It's a strange world we live in.
The summary is so biased it reads as a troll. Is theodp a Twitter clone?
With friends like that, who needs enemies?
Thank you for correcting me.

No, a friend of mine did that already. Really!
Yep, the former.
I never said anything about upgrading. Reincarnation is not upgrading.
...and period3 means that you're 12 years old and just started puberty?
My Betty has reincarnated 5 times already. She started life as an 80 MHz AMD 486 clone and she now is a 24" iMac.
My computers at home are named after females in music. Other devices on my network are named after female fairy tale figures.

Tom Jones! We need Tom Jones in the movie too.

This has been done to a cat in the 1960s already.

I really thought Ogg went the way of the dinosaur. Let's hope Mozilla can help it to succeed in the real world. It will be hard to beat mp3.
(g) CowboyNeal is to cool
