For a local copy I'd say park something outside of the area where the sun will expand as it gets older. That way if we somehow get wiped out a hard local copy is stored somewhere in the outer areas of the solar system. It's not a perfect idea but it's a bit more long term in thinking then most Earth bound solutions.
I think you are confusing trolls with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" crowd. My mother who is over 70 has had the same reactions people on Slashdot are having about the new Windows GUI. If she had her way she'd go back to Windows XP's interface cause she knew EXACTLY where everything was and didn't need anyone to change it. Windows 8.1 is just another mess for her to relearn how to do things. I'm sorry, as nice as Metro may be for phones and tablets, it has no place on the desktop.
If Microsoft kept Metro on tablets and phones only they'd have a solid update for Windows Mobile. Instead they shoved it on the Desktop as well and it's generated a lot of annimosity. If they really want a solid desktop release they need to take Windows 7, apply under the hood updates, and leave the interface alone for the most part. If they really want to have their flat color Windows 8 desktop style then it can be added as an extra theme that is selectable in the release.
Given reality however I'm planning for a no Windows future after 7's support ends.
Perhaps as an exercise if people think they can do better in other languages then by all means lets have a Slashdot "Office-A-Thon" of sorts to see who builds what in 30 days. Certainly beats sitting around a/. post grumbling at a guy who put some time and effort in his off time to do something and wither or not this is/. worthy.
Get your nerd on and lets see other people build something better in 30 days solo. Be nice if/. set aside a section that lets you see a summary of people's progress on that challenge.
Nice back door on your device there, shame if someone put something on there that would incriminate you for something you didn't do. Oh but you feel safer right?
Because we as a nation keep asking for them because:
* They help our business interests. * They appeal to our religious convictions. * They look good and sound good on the local TV. * We think no wrong of them because it's always the other idiots outside our districts that are the problem all over the country. * We actually think these people care for us and buy in to the bull in the campaign ads.
Uninformed and uneducated voters are killing the country. They scream about kicking carrier politicians out but never really start with their own house while expecting somoene else to do it elsewhere.
The lack of SD Card reader and easily removable batter kill it though for me. I like easy access to the battery for changes and want flexibility for my storage offline.
I'm running Cinnamon from Mint 14.1 on an Acer Aspire TimelineX and so far the thing has worked without a hitch. I use my laptop for meetings at work and haven't had any troubles with the OS or Cinnamon.
WoW has seriously turned me off to Blizzard games. Seven years in that did have it's good times but that was from the people I met and not from the game I played.
Loved Diablo 1 and 2, haven't even touched Diablo 3. I'll be cracking away at the next cavern in Minecraft when they release this new one.
Or just park an object in the right orbit so it pulls the Earth ever so gently in the direction we want it to go with it's gravity. Less boom boom going even though it might take a while to do it.
Some of the city raids I went on for my server would have been more fun if things didn't lag like they did. While we never had over 3000 people, the numbers were high enough we had the server buckling a few times just by bringing in 3 raid groups to a whole Alliance city.
Step 1: Ask her if she'd be interested in playing a computer game with you sometime when you both have free time and not much interesting going on. If she says yes then go to Step 2.
Step 2: Ask her if she liked playing with blocks, legos, etc as a kid where you can be all kinds of creative. If she says yes then go to Step 3.
Step 3: Buy two copies of Minecraft and see how she likes it. You can setup a private server between your laptops and either be creative together and have fun or survive together and have fun. Either way the key point is having fun together and I chose Minecraft because it can be pretty basic yet very engaging at the same time.
Note: If she doesn't like computer games, invest in a deck of cards or something. UNO was always a good game.
As crazy as it sounds, someone will file a lawsuit against the USA for separation of church and state because of the White House pushing the Jedi religion in their response.
You really have to wonder how successful the United States really is with a list like that. I did some quick searches to see how the list fares and the first three are results I found from Google/Wikipedia that match along with that list. Be neat to have links for all those items to help back up that list more. Take mine with a grain of salt since I'm no expert on studies.
#1 The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world and the largest total prison population on earth. ( http://www.prisonstudies.org/info/worldbrief/wpb_stats.php?area=all&category=wb_poptotal )

#3 The United States has the highest divorce rate on the globe by a wide margin. ( http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/peo_div_rat-people-divorce-rate )
Not to intentionally reply to my own post but one other thing I thought of.
Code I've looked back on and asked why they did it that way was sometimes greeted with the response of, "Because they didn't have the fancy new way of doing it back then in the development tools." As time wears on better options show up, I especially notied this when my work place finally upgraded the database to one that supported regular expressions.
Did they just say they had six million unsold firing range targets they're sitting on? Ten for ten bucks sounds like a good deal right?
Don't take your car to the airport unless a family member or good friend drives it home for you. Other option is just take a cab.

I've had really good experiences with Mint Cinnamon on my laptop at work. They went the direction Ubuntu should have gone for the Desktop.
This could bring a whole new meaning to debugging code when you mix chocolete covered ants and touch screen computing.

You don't have to install Ubuntu main line and have your privacy Dash'd to pieces by their business practices and partners.

We duct taped two 21" CRT's or two old HP Laserjets to a bar and did sets!
