Microsoft probably wouldn't make much money doing exactly what they do but with open source also. Thats the point. Software development shouldn't focus around selling the same product over and over again, but should instead focus on selling services. Services include developing new features. Possibly, using a Ransomware scenario with source included, and then relicense it to a redistributable open source license after a certain minimum amount revenue was collected. Also, there is a fully functional desktop (several even) available right now. The free software ecosystem is very healthy.
Thats a pretty big IF there buddy. Lets put it this way. Google donates lots and lots of code. Why the hell would they take a little utility like this when it is giving away dev time for free?
If Microsoft went away tomorrow, there would be a flood of businesses running proprietary apps collapsing all around the world. At least until Wine achieves 100% parity;-).
Oh fucking shit? Already? Douche, the fucking security hole was released 4 hours after the product was released. An open source product where anybody could have seen the code at any time. This is nothing but strategic fear mongering. Your Firefox will download its update in a day or so and you can go see your tentacle porn safely.
Were are you getting this "at least 93% efficient" crap? I highly doubt the energy expenditure to raise crops even equals its potential output using this method. You have fertilizer, man power, trucks, harvesters, and thats before even converting it to ethanol. And on top of that I'm wondering how much of that stored solar energy in the plant is actually converted back into usable energy. I seriously doubt the whole process approaches even 10% of the total energy expenditure. With solar you have manufacturing and installation every 20 years or so.
I was just about to mention Citadel. Especially, since the Thunderbird Sync Kolab plugin now works well with synchronizing address books and calendars with it.
While you shouldn't settle with a tool that doesn't do the job up to a certain price/performance standard. You shouldn't ignore the fact that just because something is not FOSS doesn't mean it wouldn't take you a week working in that too. Some FOSS is inferior. Some proprietary shit is inferior. Both of them need to be learned.
It has horrible format support. It supports MPEG standards and thats it. It doesn't support FLAC/OGG/Vorbis/Theora, so I setup a transcoding DLNA server to transcode to MP3, but the PS3 can't play anything off a DLNA server without knowing the file length ahead of time. In other words it can't even do streamed MP3. Lame.

Dude that is fucking awesome. Haha.
Shit I had it in my TI-85 in '96.
That would've been a lot cooler if Slashdot supported Unicode.
No for the slashdot crowd it would be: 58008uÉÉ . Because obviously we all have calculators that support unicode text entry.
I'm assuming you mean the lame awesome bar not the awesome lame bar. You just don't make sense.
No its just the Intel Wireless open source drivers suck ass, and Network Manager can't work them.
Well, the original poster was positing on a probably. I was just giving him a more likely probably given Google's past performance.

It can do antialiasing

That's cool as long as you don't ever plan on applying security updates.

I could be wrong though. Prove me wrong.

You mean the kraut. Not the Kaiser.

Flock is not free software.
Nah, its just me. I like to initial all my quotables.

That game just taught me how to cancel my subscription.
All coding and no play makes Hans a dull boy.

I think we'll probably end up seeing a derivative of Android on there. Similar requirements and solution.
Yeah, they should instead claim (rightfully so) that the machine can print out the parts that would normally take a machine shop to make.
