    Internet service has the implied meaning that given a public IP address, you should be able to contact any other public IP address without interference by a 3rd party. There are private networks and public networks. So what? If an entity wants to be a player in the internet game they need to be prepared to play by the rules. Or they should be stripped of their rights to participate in the network.

    There is no "kit" for Linux. You can install any Linux which supports PS3.

    Its a LiveJournal service that he wants to let his MSN using friends (the ones with the shiny new OpenIDs) use. I believe it will work, unless you are saying LiveJournal has this half-functionality also.

    Citadel can work with Asterisk as a voice mail store. So I've been told. And its very easy and fast to setup (Citadel).

    IMAP is fundamentally broken? You must be talking about Microsoft's implementation of it. I use it and it works well. Just use a real mail server.

    You really, truly believe? So you have convictions... boy those must make you a religious person. Seriously, people who promote free software believe that free software is the most advantageous for humanity in general because it doesn't lock the user into anything. If anything free software is nothing more than a higher level software ethic.

    Coming from somebody that managed servers just plugged in with an internet connection from half a continent away. I can say running Linux headless is as easy as you can get. With regards to ZFS, I dream of there being an equivalent on Linux. It may happen some day, but until then its RAID5/6+LVM+ext3.
