My biggest pet peeve about MPlayer is the fact that it lets audio and video go out of sync, and then proceeds to complain that the machine is too slow, when I know many times that such is not true. Synching audio and video under Linux is not impossible because all aRTs players (Noatun, Kaboodle, etc.) do this, and they do so at full-screen, and they handle files that MPlayer complains about. aRTs may not have as much support for codecs as MPlayer does, but the ones that it can play, it plays very well, much better than MPlayer ever does.
By the time DNF comes out, there will be quantum computers, which would nullify the need for the latest and greatest, especially if you're a good programmer since the speed of quantum computers depend more on the software than the hardware.
How about this for an idea that would make Microsoft pay the most and the schools would still win?
10k people should claim their vouchers, and then turn around and donate it to the schools of their choice. That would mean $1.1b for schools than just $367m.
I'm not a Californian, so I would the the wrong person to start this.
Utterly ridiculous. So we should disseminate all data? No matter what it could be used for?
Science creates tools, means to ends, not ends in themselves. Tools have no morality in and of themselves, and so therefore their research should not be judged based upon what they could be used for. Final, production level products of that research, can and should be scrutinized for what they could be used for.
One wonders your position on gun control - to be consistent you'd have to support complete unfettered access to firearms. Somehow I doubt that.
This, too, is pure ad hominem bullshit. The parent would not have to support complete unfettered access to firearms to be consistent. It's one thing to allow researchers unfettered access to materials for their research, but rather different to allow the end product of that research to be available to anyone.
Just to clarify, you're not reducing the number of passwords you need to remember, you're just using your environment around you to help you remember your passwords. It's just another memory trick to help you remember stuff, much like pneumonic devices.
That doesn't always work. In spite of the CPU doing other things, aRTs players still play the files just fine, unlike MPlayer.

I was just about to say something similar. It's about time governments realize that security through obscurity in software isn't the way to go.
All us geeks should move to Puerto Rico, proceed to vote to cede from the US and make our own laws.
See, it actually recognizes the kids...
"Kids, please stop that. I mean it, stop it. I said, 'STOP!'" *grumble*
Actually, no, it's more like:
1. Have your OS pre-installed on HD's
2. somethis
3. ???
4. Profit!
Yeah, I was fooled by that one. Sorry about that.
I can't stop laughing....
I don't know about that, but men at least have an excuse for something else.
Isn't that painful?
See, that's why I'm not too fond of macadamia nuts. I'm not willing to suffer for my food.

Good.
That means that Debian's default configuration for sshd is also secure.
I personally prefer playing Frozen Bubble over installing it, but hey, whatever gets your goat.
Many blind people already use their hearing to navigate their environment. Many of them can hear many times better than the rest of us.
Thanks, now I have a big huge bruise on my head!

Are those stories still censored? Oh, no, never mind, that's just the /. effect.
You're right, it isn't illegal and never has been. It's illegal to download copyrighted works without the proper permission from the copyright holder.
If you give me some photo identification, your SSN, home phone number, and home address, I can help you get it.

When users have password rage, look out! They might start throwing all those letters and numbers at you!
And at least one kiss from Princess Amidala all covered in Hot Grits!
I thought, for a second, that they were modeling the new AIBO after ESR.
