  1. Good, but... on Halo PC Goes Gold, Producer Quizzed · · Score: 0, Flamebait
I've never played Halo. I don't own an xbox. I don't own a single console, and if I were going to get one, xbox would be last on my list.

I'll probably get this game just to see why xbox fans think it is worth getting an xbox for, however...

Why did Microsoft force Bungie to sit on the PC release for so long? I'm surprised they didn't wait until Halo 2 had been out for a while, just to make this release even more pointless.

I suppose it does help xbox sales when there is no PC version, but... I would assume it would help sales of Windows in a small way, since I'm sure a lot of die-hard Halo fans might buy a new PC for the game if the one they have is past its prime.

So apparently, Microsoft cares a lot about trying to make a profit on the xbox.

That's my take on it anyway... what do the rest of you think?

Oh, right, so just because a few of the people in the prison are wrongfully imprisoned, we should spend our tax money to buy prisoners playstations?

    We sure as hell should.

It would be amusing to watch your opinion change if you are wrongfully imprisoned.

I think it is a small price to pay. Granted, if people have a history of car-jacking, GTA might not be the best choice. Between rape and other abuse, I think prisoners have enough shit to worry about that the PS2 hardly makes up for any of it. And if you're bitching about paying for that PS2, then maybe you should bitch about the construction of roads you don't need, too. I'm sure that costs a fair amount more. Or how about a state that spent something like $15,000 on a study to figure out why prisoners wanted to... escape... from prison? That was money well spent, I am sure.

I would have to say my favorite is the one I just mentioned. FF3/6 may have been the easiest of the games, but it was still enjoyable. It pushed the SNES graphics at the time, and had an excellent story with memorable characters.

We have no real evidence of this... I don't think it is fair to rule out any chance of finding life in extreme places.

Venus may be our hell, but isn't it possible that somewhere in the universe, organisims exist that would thrive there?

Chess "AI" is really pointless. All that is needed for playing chess is a fast computer and lots of stored moves, mainly because the number of possible moves is quite finite.

While poker is an interest game to tackle, I think I'd have to agree with others here that it is more of a people game and hard to a machine to understand the nuances of "bluffing" and other things that we silly humans do.

What I'd really like to see is computer AI able of playing the Japanese/Chinese board game called Go at advanced levels.

As it is right now, the best Go AI is only at intermediate levels it terms of skill. Here is a URL comparing Chess to Go...

  19. When to worry about insomnia. on Recepies For A Good Night's Sleep? · · Score: 1
Many people are afraid to admit they have a serious problem. The damage on my relationships was severe, but, thank the Lord, not permanent. In fact, I almost think that it improved my relationships. My girlfriend especially is thrilled with me now that I'm recovering. She couldn't believe how solving this has changed me... It's a wonderfull feeling. Anyway, my symptoms started in March and I'm still getting over some of them... however, my insomnia is also caused by late stage Lyme disease, something that most doctors know very little about... but before I get too OT, I want to mention the signs of a serious problem:

By not being able to fall asleep on time, you suffer from cognative problems, speech problems, etc. This damage can become rather scary, and can harm your relationships... thus, you fear not being able to get to sleep to the point where your bed becomes a symbol of frustration and anxiety, not rest. This creates a vicious cycle that plays over and over... if this sounds like you, seek some professional help now.

Here's a couple things that you can try out on your own:

    - Keep a journal (I'm talking good old Pen & Paper, not a diaryland.com deal, as tech tends to keep your brain alert), and write in it about a half hour before you attempt to go to bed. Use this time to unwind, to think about the events in the day, and to understand what you could have done better. See, many people never get a chance to think about the events that occured durring the day, and thus the person will toss and turn, thinking about the day.

    - If you don't fall asleep within 20-30 minutes of laying down, GET UP, do something else. Something really borring. Read an EULA (on paper though, don't turn on your PC, that'll keep you up)!

-Keep your room dark and silent.

    - Picture something peacefull when you try to get your z's. My girlfriend's kitten looks pretty cute when she sits in a window sill... that vision always helps my journey to the land of REM.

Well, I'm off to bed now. It's almost 3:00 AM. I plan on sleeping until noon. This would be impossible for me in the past... it sure is wonderfull now!
