    For once, i am going to sacrifice some of my karma for a rant.

    Here is a guy obsessed about going for something and using technology to assist his attempt. He's using a well prepared car with better braking systems than the average bear (pun intended). Since most of his travel is likely to be on interstates, he's hardly likely to bump into a pedestrian either.

    We even, through the Darwin Awards, recognise those who didn't make it.

    And here you lot are, denigrating something you normally approve of, and certainly would have a few years ago.

    The Americans learned from when Russia went off in a huff and didn't participate in the Security Council of the UN. As a result, there was no other power to veto lots of UN Resolutions made by the US at the time.

    Since then, the last Superpower and the reviving Superpowers have made it a point to have a voice on every committee and organisation going.

    It doesn't appear at first glance to be an "idiotic" patent and therefore it's probably valid in the EU too. The EU and US may have a mutual patent recognition agreement, or it may be patented in EU countries also.

    It's not a software patent, it looks like they are patents concerned with techniques for munufacturing disk drives. Patents are a bit tricky to read sometimes.

    The way out of this one, assuming I read this correctly, would be prior art or alternative manufacturing techniques
