Since were telling Bible jokes we might as well bring in the story of God's left handed assasin, Ehud (Starting at verse 12). Apparantly if you're left handed killing is A-OK with God.
You could try a Virtual Retinal Display. They've shown promise for people with macular degeneration and retinal pigmentosa. I think Microvision is the only company selling them though.
They consider Hulk toys too violent? I thought Hulk was supposed to be filled with A-team style "nobody actually gets hurt" violence with a "control your temper" moral lesson. These people are either insane or too lazy to actually investigate what they are complaining about.
"It is ridiculous to claim that video games influence children. For instance, if PacMan affected kids born in the eighties, we should by now have a bunch of teenagers who run around in darkened rooms and eat pills while listening to monotonous electronic music." --Gene Spafford
Unlike conventional chatterbots, Oscar doesn't attempt to engage in long-running conversations with meaningful state.
Actually the fact that Oscar has no state makes it a rather conventional ALICE-style chatterbot. This is normal. The fact the Wilde had so many great one-liners means his work adapts well to the ALICE system.
What would be extraordinary is if the implemented just the opposite, a chatterbot with an rich internal state. This has yet to be done convincingly. There is nothing uncoventional about Oscar, it just is a brilliant choice of source material.
It sounds to me that they were trying to do language detection for the interface so they could release the same disc to several regions. Freeloader probably sets some language flag incorrectly which caused the text display to fail. Isn't it curious that the failure occurs just in the menus and in the speedometers? I would speculate that you can't see a single character of text. If they were purposely trying to break compatability then the failure would have been a lot more dramatic.
French games are way too conservative and have been lacking. The only good game to come out of there to speak of is Syberia and it is an adventure game. Meanwhile, we have the beautiful and innovative Mafia are coming out of the Czech Republic, the government of which is in no position to give out game grants. The problem is culture, not resources.
Handing out grants is just going to make French games more conservative because the value of the games are going to be judged by government officials. I expect the result of this grant will be a pretty game with high production values but I also expect the gameplay with be rehashed from the late '80s.
I'm a pretty hard core gamer but I've hit a record low this month for game playing. Why? There has been nice weather in Seattle for a solid month for the first time in my life that I can remember. I picked up Knights of the Old Republic which has gushing reviews and totally deserves them IMO. Despite that I've had a real hard time staying inside to play it. For me this is just a one month anomoly.
If this is true then only a few people know about it. I work at Microsoft Game Studios and I haven't heard a thing. We just recently did some staffing changes in managment in order to manage Rare. We would have to do another huge re-org in order to absorb Vivendi. I've heard nothing along those lines. If we bought Vivendi then my team would have to double in size and haven't been told to do that.
I work at Microsoft Game Studios. Every full time engineer in my department runs Linux on at least one of their home computers but I've met project leads who don't even know what the GPL is. A lot of our staff come from companies that we've purchased. The difference between a native Micosofty and a bought one is staggering. The most comic example are the guys who work for Bungie. Bungie made Mac games for years and they all come to work in Mac schwag.
The Malmö bridge that spans between Sweden and Denmark is quite a sight if you happen to be in Copenhagen. The best way to see it is to take a flight from SAS and look out the window, land and jump on your connecting flight.
This really looks like the type of show I would watch and I did catch a bit of one episode. Honestly though, 9pm Friday! I'm 21! That's prime skirt-chasing hours. I don't know what idiots at the network would put a show for the young-male demographic on friday night. I'm as big a nerd as anyone but sci-fi, coding and video-games are for 1am on Tuesday.
All you people who are saying, "If this bothers you then get a life." are missing a major point. Protesting in a virtual enviroment is fun! McDonalds has become a player in the game and players are treating it the same way they treat monsters in other games, as a villain.
I think this is a really significant case study in how people behave in virtual enviroments. There are people in the Sims Online who are protesting McDonalds who never would in real life. People are expressing their feelings about McDonalds that they never could in real life due to pesky laws about vandalism and such.
The rate plans in Sweden work the same way. On the flip side, unlike the US, mobile to mobile is free for the callee. I didn't even have a land line when I lived over there.
Live is actually pretty damn cool

Xbox Live Beta Report

· Score: 5, Interesting
I'm on the beta and I'm quite impressed. Two games were included in the beta: NFL Fever 2K3 and Re-volt. Both games completely suck. The amazing thing is that it doesn't matter. Despite the face that both games suck the easy voice chat feature completely redeems them. Everyone is required to have a decent connection which means less drop-outs. Also, since players can't edit the game files there are no cheaters.
Neither of the included games has any team-play aspect so chat generally is reduced to three phrases: "Fuck...I crashed", " Ha ha. I passed you"and "I win!". It will be interesting to see how it works out in Unreal Championchip and Battlefield 1942.
Isn't it clear? NASA is doing it because they have all the alien technology that they got from the Roswell crash. Its just a clever trick so the aliens can learn more about us before invasion.:-)
I beg to differ. It has been widely believed and shown in simulation that packet networks exibit power law distribution of lag. The theory has always been sound.
What is interesting about this article is that the hypothesis has now been verified empirically that the internet exhibits these qualities. That's not pseudo-science. They came up with a hypothesis: The internet exhibits chaotic behaviour characterized by power-law distribution. They validated this hypothesis with a repeatable experiment.
First, the Pope declared that christianity does not conflict with evolution as long as one recognizes that the process of evolution was an act of God. This definition of evolution pushes it outside the realm of natural science so it is fundamentally different from what theory of evolution actually claims.
Most protestant sects do have the inerrancy of the bible as part of their creed. So I hardly think it can be considered out of the mainstream, especially in America. I'm not implying that the congregations are buying it but it is coming from the pulpit.
National churches like the Church of England and the state churches in Scandinavia are a lot better but they are losing membership so quickly that they are quickly becoming irrelevant. Same with Orthodox.

Slashdot did an article on them a while back.

...with psychological disorders. Virtual treatment for phobias has been shown to have a positive effect.

Playing games that are 95% done is like drinking water that is 95% not urine. Sure, its mostly good, but that other %5 ruins the entire experience.
I'd tell you but your name is Anonymous Coward.

People kinda get used to it so you have plausible deniabiliy when you pretend that a message from someone you don't like never got through.

KTH is a great school. I was an exchange student there for a year from the University of Washington. Go ahead. Mod me down offtopic.
