These benchmarks will be run as identically as possible across all of the distros. Once we have finished the first round of benchmarking we will hand the machine over to each distro's team and let them tweak accordingly./BLOCKQUOTE

With the microBTX form occupying only 12.9 Liters and regular BTX form system not much larger, Intel has been able to push acceptance of BTX with OEM manufacturers with some ease.

PicoBTX, the smallest of the BTX forms, is the most interesting of the BTX form factors, in my opinion. Intel will be demonstrating 6.9 Liter systems based around picoBTX, smaller than any small form factor PCs on the market.

  12. Re:Simple on Why Hasn't the DVI Interface Replaced D-Sub? · · Score: 1

The main reason I see is that DVI supports both analog and digital. So you could have a LCD with only digital in in a DVI connector, but people would expect it to work with their analog connector if the get the adapter. The adapter fits, but it doesn't work.

To solve that problem, you have to have both a digital and analog thingy in the monitor.

  16. PS3 a winner? on PS3 Release Not Until 2006, PSX Firmware Upgrade? · · Score: 2, Interesting

A major key factor for the PS2's success was that it was backwards compatible with PS1 games. So if you had a PS1, it was a no-brainer to get the PS2. And if you didn't, you knew that the PS2 would play all those cool games that your friends had, so you picked it up.

If the PS3 is backwards compatible with the PS2 & PS1, I think it will do pretty well.

Backwards compatibility is starting to get important for the console manufacturers. The N64 was NOT backwards compatible with anything, and so it was harder to get moving. Nowadays, the lack of backwards compatibility will slow down adoption (note that Mac OS X; Windows XP, etc all have some form of backwards compatibility.)
