Yes, that's the purpose. With direct election, the more populous states would exercise the "Tyranny of the Majority" over the less populous states. The electoral college helps balance the representation of the several states.
Write-in candidates file a declaration of write-in candidacy with the Secretary of State. The declaration may not be filed earlier than July 27, 2008, or later than 5:00 p.m. of August 26, 2008. The declaration must also be accompanied with information about the vice-presidential running mate and the names and addresses of the presidential electors. Written-signed statements of each individualâ(TM)s consent to be a vice-presidential candidate or elector must accompany the application.
Let me know when Apple signs even one deal with a Fortune 500 company to go all Apple hardware, because I guarantee you almost every one of those companies is Dell exclusive right now.
You've got a good chance on #103 on the 2008 Fortune 500 list...
The responsibility of your children's education falls on you, jackass! The Dept. of Ed. is just something that makes it more difficult for you to make sure your kids get a good education.
Indeed. If I could send a letter to the past, I would advise the framers that rather than try to secure the right to the people to bear arms they should instead deny the right of ownership to the state, such that only citizens may own arms.
That's how we did it old school. These days kids learn OO concepts with graphical programming environments they don't know are graphical programming environments. Try out Alice by Carnegie Mellon and see how kids (or adults) can create "interactive stories" that a using 3D graphical objects. It's pretty cool. Version 3 (in development) will utilize graphical models from EA's The Sims 2, to allow creation of more realistic stories (see the press release), but even with crude graphics, kids end up learning how to make a collection of objects communicate via inherent or user-added methods.
If that is what you want, then by all means, buy a ClearPlay DVD Player and play your standard DVDs in it. It will automatically skip "the dirty bits" and there's no nefarious copyright infringment going on.
But if for every one of the "I can't get my hardcore fix" buyers who skips Wii there are three "Hey, this looks like fun for the family, and I can afford it" buyers, then what does it matter? I haven't bought a new system since PS1, and I wasn't planning on getting any of the new generation until I saw what Wii had to offer at E3. Now I'm absolutely getting Wii.
Carbon is older and mostly included for backwards compatibility. Cocoa is the new hotness.
Just to clarify, Cocoa is not newer than Carbon. It was created for Mac OS X 1.0 as a way for traditional Toolbox applications (i.e. MacOS Classic apps) to be compiled to run natively in Mac OS X. Cocoa, however, is simply a new name for the API that NeXT computers used from 1985. Don't get me wrong. Cocoa is the new hotness, just because it's the first-class API for Mac OS X, getting the most love and care from Apple's engineers. Cocoa is what you want to use for new development. Carbon is just a way to shoehorn old code into a modern environment.
I'm hoping that Nintendo will examine the Gamecube's failure and learn from it.
Failure? They made millions in profits from the GC. It was the most financially successful console of its generation. I doubt that Nintendo shareholders consider it a failure.
Yeah, it is. It's also a bag of hurt. ;)
Does anyone else find irony in a "you shouldn't keep people who want to vote from voting" post that ends with "burn your voter registration card?"

I think that's why Barr filed an emergency stay to prevent the Texas Secretary of State from printing ballots until after this case is decided.

"there's no such deadline. As a Texan, I can write in anyone I like..."
You can, but it only counts if the person you wrote in filed by August 26th.

How is that different from the USA? (And I don't mean how is that different from how it is supposed to be, I mean how thing really happen.)
No, the people lost the war. The government won it.

You've got to learn Objective-C. Duh. How else are you going to write iPhone apps. ;)

SHIT! I just put my whole damned paycheck on the donkey. SHIT SHIT SHIT!

Are you that uptight per se, or just on Slashdot?
You must not have travelled much throughout the several States.
Before I came to the south, I never knew anybody could pronounce "R" with two sylables: "Arr-uh" instead of the "Arr" most folks use.

You make an excellent point.
- Microsoft's target audience appears to be gamers.
- Sony's target audience appears to be hard core gamers with lots of money to burn.
- Nintendo's target audience appears to be, well, everyone.
So let's say that each company gets 10% of their target audience to buy their product.Who's the winner now?
Just to clarify: Apple said they will not add new APIs to the Cocoa-Java Bridge. They will still support 100% Pure Java with the JRE, ongoing.

I'm too afraid of dying of dysentery!
I think farts are hilarious, and I still plan to buy a Wii.
