About the volume - From what I have noticed is that US GSM is much quieter than European GSM using the same phone. I had mu Nokia turned up all the way in the States and could barly hear the person on the other end - but when I took that phone to Germany I had to turn ot down mid volume to hear just fine.
Perhaps the companies what you to scream into phone just to show off?
Yesterday I went to CeBIT and the SuSE booth was in hall 1 right under Novell. (They pay extra to be in hall 1) Red Hat was stuck in the back of a hall and almost didn't notice them, they were just behind Iran's massive booth (Countries have booths to get people to invest in them)

I remeber that the C-17 I flew on had 110 outlets. Do you think the load master will let me use my laptop?
I hate flying and I'm going from from germany to the states for a job interview. I already posponed it once becouse of my hate of flying.
Monday i'll go to the terminal and see if I can get a ride to charlston on a c-17.
Email me at contact @ my username dot com. If you don't mind. I'm a civilian that's planning of going space-a and would not mind hitching a ride from Rhein Main statesside with a fellow slashdotter. I'll be going sometime next week.
The FCC will not allow the european bands. I would not be suprised if this is a tactic to control the US market and not allow a buch of european phones to be sold behind the providers backs.
I had the chance to visit the national museum in Kiev two years ago.
It was truly amazing, I hope that they make a good movie about it becouse it seems that most people only learn about the world from movies.
In the museum they had two newspapers, one a Soviet and an American the day after. On the American the disaster was on the main page as the headline. On the soviet it was on the 6th page in a little box in the cornner.
Once the Soviets figured out the shit they were in - on the third day - they started to evacuate people. There was one film they showed of little kids playing, you could see bright flashes in the film. It was from radiation on the film. (Think airport xrays)
Another film showed the clean up crew. Each soldier was given a gas mask and a iorn vest. Before the door the took a shot of vodkia and walked out - Each man would shovel for 30 seconds and then go home. Most died a few days later.
On a side note my parents and brother meet some local people and they went out to a beach on the river (look at the map on that website). My father was just reciently diagnosses with tyroid cancer (in germany) a was not too happy so none of them swap just watched. Later my dad finds out that they were in the red-zone. Mind you there were a lot of kids playing in the water.
For those who may not know - the nuclear plan was just recienty shut down ('98 i think). It had been in operation for quite some time (using the remaning reactors)
Does anyone know if an open-source (cheap) watermark solution exists?
I like to take photos and post them on my site, but I would like to also have them watermarked in case someone takes the photo and starts making money of it.
I looked into the one that comes with Adobe products, but it was way to expensive. Something like $75 for 10 photos.
Clicking the ad is not as important. Look at yahoo, most or the ads are for cars and movies. The point here is to get the name seen and people see that. (I know I could care less that a new jeep model is out, but I know now)
I think that economist.com has done it the best. Pay for a print subscription the the magazine and all the artices are on the website for you with a password. Very cool when your on the road or just want to look up a past issue.
Some places like Germany use dried cow urine. I don't remeber the name but they tell kids not to put it in there mouths.

What had me thinking is why did the editor let us know that he was at Krispy Kreme's having donuts and coffee. That could have been left out.
Funny I was just thinking about that yesterday. I figured that they would have a few guys that could do his voice.
Do you have a source for the 9000 dead in your sig?
Come to think about it, it's true in any organization. The head secritary can make an appt or not - just on her mood.
A joke among Americans living in Europe is that NTSC stands for "Never The Same Color"

That pay cut really hurts people who are stationed overseas. My freind payes 600 euros rent, that was ~600 $ a few years ago, now it's almost ~780
The 12.34.65 is a random number I made up. Anything 127.x.x.x is loopack. It's a silly design to give an entire /8 for loopback.
I like to mess with people who know a little about networking and ask them to ping 127.12.34.65 - They look at me funny.
"I thought 127.0.0.1 was the loop back"

And the C-17 does have a Windows box for the loadmastrer.
I'll try to get a ride on one of them back to the states next week. Do you know what C-5 are like?
That is how I travel. Find a destination and no plans. If I don't reach it - ok.
What helps is to have a digi cam - take photos of anything that you like.

I have head that once your recive the Spatzz award from Civil Air Patrol (highest cadet rank) you get a check ride in a 2 seat F-16.
And yes there are 2 seaters, used in traning.
Nope - Edwards AFB is the only place in the US that you can go supersonic - and it's military air space.
I lived there and sonic booms are a bitch - it's like a massive punch to your house (well, that is exactly what it is)
I know of a guy who bought a MiG for $7000 in Poland. Including S&H (very important)
If the chip has a hologram or a color sticker it will add HP.
"Damn, the wife wants to kill me again..."
