should computer generated images of children in sexual situations be illegal? no. the child pornography laws were created in order to protect children, not to control our own morality. personally i think child pornography is disgusting, but it is an artist's right, or anyone's for that matter, to use his craft in order to produce any type of image they want, pornographic or not. as for media and "simulated" sexual acts in movies or whatnot, i think the act needs to be more explicit. what is the difference between an R rated movie and a pornography other than ratings? if i scene isnt graphic, does it make it right? movies made with scenes containing these situations employ actors/actresses who (if are underage, have a legal guardian) consent to participation. whether it is in bad taste or not isnt the issue, the issue is freedom of speech.

M$ has done alot for home computing in the past ten years. im not agreeing with theyre methods, but they have put alot of technology into homes that was never before concieved. yes windows sucks, but only because it lacks the control advanced users crave. most home users cant install m$office without help files.. let alone compile a kernel. we as geeks refuse to admit that the general public is ignorant, so we blame it on the products (in my opinion promote it) who help others jump on this technological bandwagon. windows, aol and even napster.. make it almost _too_ easy to run a home computer.

im not defending m$.. but this brings up good points about the case..yes, im tickled to death that m$ might have to split.... but it also shows me how our government can fade from the law and do what _they_ think is 'right. m$ is complaining that the government is forcing them, one way or another to split up their departments, which is true.. the government is saying "do this or else".and i dont know about you.. but i dont want to rely on the government to do what "they think is right" in war.. and ignore our foreign policies.
i know that ever since i started with computers (way back in the day) the best references wernt books.. but friends who were more experienced (and rtfm;). the best writers for books i would buy now would be people in my field at the same experience or higher, sharing their tricks and tools of the trade.

im relativley new to linux and one of the things i like about x is the choice of the gui. i know when i first started, gnome was easy fun to use. after kde came out with v. 2, i quickly switched to that. ive also used blackbox and wm... but lean towards kde and gnome. i think its a good experience to use more than one interface. it gives the user and idea of how in control they really are:)
its bad enough icq and aol are basically the same thing. but the 31337ness of icq will be deteriorated by the introduction of teenie bopping 12 year olds who chat about the color of blue lipstick they are wearing to english class tomorrow.
