I contract @ a *.gov. Although my hourly rate is the same as I've been making for the last few years; there is no overtime, or even the option of making every week a 40 hr one [like Presidents day was a 32 hr work week; but past places of employment I could make up to the base 40/week, not here].
But that's the whinner in me, in fact, with all my CC bills, Im just glad to be employed.
OTOH - management is a god-damn nightmare here; we now have two managers who don't talk to each other. I just lay low in my cube, do the minimum work, and count the moments until 4pm....
yes...I have been fired. left it on resume. and explained it for the next few years of interviewing...no biggie once you done it (explained) it once. It's easy to bend things a little.
My last firing was for 'non-performance' in 1995(?) I was assigned to code a xfer utility over dialup. Initially I said I could get 1 mb in 2 minutes? (I can't remember exactly, don't hold me to these numbers) and started working it out...well even though 19.2 modems were becoming standard, client would only provide 9600. I could not reach the numbers I initially said in 9600...bang; I was let go.
by people who wanted to be left alone to do their own thing. they knew they needed a government, but wanted a minimal/efficent one.
privacy was implied in almost every other word of our founding documents. our founders felt very strongly about limiting governments medeling in citizens lives. for the last 225 years, almost every generation has had to test those same ideals.
the best defense, is a good offense...let's not make the usa a brightly lit stadium; lets give the military more flashlights.
This just In...Enron exec says future looks bright...RayBan stock rises...
Jeez you guys will believe anything...I bet they are still tracking, just saying they arent...unless, they just ran out of tapes to spool the logs off to...
not entirely true...if enron execs knew they were doing bad, they can be sued (civilly) and if violate criminal law thrown in jail. It's called white-collar crime. These laws have been on the books awhile, but rarely used by judges.
My friends dad, back in the mid/early 70's, was convicted of white-collar crime and did 4 months in a minimum security NJ facility; but there was no civil suit to speak of, so he was able to keep all his off-shore monies; but he lost the 30 meter yatch which was in the corporations name...hehe that was some party boat....
He is primarily a BBQ joint, so for his grand opening got a giant floating (ballon) Pig.
Well, it violated zoning, so he got a stiff $500 fine...and a full color picture of the offending Pig right on the front page of the local newspaper...with about 1000 words!
Since I am interested in
the security of corporate systems, I analyzed only those sub-set of advisories that would be relevant to corporate infrastructures. Thus I ignore advisories that deal with email
systems, browsers, and client applications.
In general, there are three categories of security problems.
The first category is user complacency. The most common example of user complacency is when a user opens an unknown email attachment.
Ummm...how do you open email without an email system?
I bet Roger Sessions of objectwatch.com is enjoying his nice (M$) bonus; that is, if the whole company is not a Microsoft stooge...
geez it couldn't be the whole economy tanked
I hope the purpose of any economy is 'more' and not 'less'
don't confuse economy with society
Now every teenage boy's room will have
1) stolen stop sign
2) stolen yellow flasher
3) stolen ULTraRobo-Taxi
...thanks for saving me the effort.
hehe...oops, I've wet myself

I quote "Culture is being re-defined right before our eyes. For centuries, art and technology have been considered separate parts of culture."
#1 Culture is always being redefined, every moment, since there was culture.
#2 Talk to any art historian, art & technology have always fed off one another.
#3 Jon is drinking more than normal
what if I come up with a new idea for a better computer screen?
but wait, I'm to broke to start my own manufacturing company.
Since, In your world I should "keep it to myself", my new idea will never be more than that, an Idea.
I cannot share my new idea with either venture capitalists or established companies because we should not make money off ideas....
In your world all the big companies & rich people have todo is listen for good Ideas from others.
which shows the Corporate West for what they are...a bunch of cover-yer-ass-lets-not-affect-my-stock-options pussies.
... what would Tony Soprano do ...?
hmmm
