There's something about paper that makes physical books easier to read. Plus, doing away with books would require someone to type in the book (yeah, yeah, OCR, but then they'd still have to go and check the book for errors, and that would be a pain as well) and very few people would want to do a job like that.
Of course, menial labor is what 3rd world countries are for.
their entire database. It crashed about a week ago. I use the web interface for yahoo mail, and last week, when I tried to check my email, it said, in big bold red letters, "Database temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." Basically, the whole thing was screwed for about a day. The next day it worked fine, at least for me.
If you want your kids to not be under any of these "bad influences", then unplug the TV and throw it out the window. TV execs don't give a rat's rump roast about values. Nor should they. The only reason TV is around is to MAKE MONEY. Sure, there are shows out there like Sesame Street that cater to children and good influences, and there is PBS that is not-for-profit TV, but the rest of it isn't. TV is supposed to be entertaining. There's a lot of ways to be entertained, and if you don't want your children to see these methods of entertainment, then, by all means, DON'T LET THEM. I see too many parents just plopping their kids in front of the TV when they need to be pacified. And then the parents complain when their active parenting tool is a "bad influence". Yes, I'm ranting. The point is: Parents should be the final arbiter of what their children see on TV. *huff, puff* I need to catch my breath.
I think it would be kind of cool if we could get a meter to see now many people disable anime vs how many people don't. Of course, you'd have to throw out all the people who have nothing disabled, but I think it would be cool to see if the Slashdot community in whole is for or against Anime. And even if they are against it, keep the topic, I like it;)
Fan service is something thrown into anime purely for eye candy, something that doesn't advance the plot (eg BSSM transformations, violence, etc, pretty much what typical laymen USAers find "immoral" about anime). It's to service the fans, so to speak, instead of the plot.
"Populous was my favorite game for years. It existed for all the systems, including Genesis, PC, SNES, etc... I liked to kill off the people. I chose 'Armageddon', or sometimes 'Flood', and killed all the citizens. It was very fun! Superphenominal, I think!" Hehe, didn't even use babel fish, translated that with my head =) His sig doesn't make sense tho: "Thank you for having me hate."....
Unfortunately, Ticalc.org thought of it first... May be just a coincedence, but their foriegn language news post were made at midnight GMT, which is a lot earlier than 4:02 AM CST... Not to offend anyone, but that's what I see =)
I think this is the perfect thing for a hyperprotective parent who is worried about their progeny accessing "bad schtuff" on the evil evil Internet. Geez. I talk to enough of these people. The internet was NEVER intended for children. Never.

It's not a zero-sum game when you have to pay $50 to play.
"I have eight watches. None of them are fake."
They profit off of every letter sent!
Then, when it tries to escape, I'll break it's wheeled legs off and haul it back in the house =)

So, would Whistler's Mother be Windows 2000 or Windows ME?

PS: I wonder why I can't use <u> tags....
I'm not trying to start any kind of holy war or anything, I just think that it would be cool to see the statistic, that's all.

And yes, this is my real name. I can't believe I've never heard of it!
VIVA DBM!!
I fear the day when we all use thought transmitted computers and the advertising agencies secretly scan our brains to customize advertising for us.

I've always laughed at those people who bought Ultima Online characters for >US$10,000...
Why does this sound like a bad episode of "The Smurfs"?

Fortunately, it comes with an emergency parachute. But you have to wonder what happens when you eject and you fall onto another chopper...
