Because of the way the terminal is shaped with parking garages, they have to search the trunks of every vehicle that goes thru. Mind you, NOT THE LUGGAGE IN THE TRUNK. So it usually goes like this, 1) drive up to the converted food van that looks like a SWAT van, 2)pop the trunk,3)guy looks and says "OK, you can go on". Like THAT inspection will catch a bomb coming thru. Morons. And then they have the balls to announce that "due to heightened security, , you cannot leave your car parked unattended in front of the terminal." so as I go thru there in my rental car, why do I see at least 5 unattended cars with the cops standing around doing nothing?

And then going thru their security to get to the plane, they tell me to "lose the attitude and calm down". I tell them to "shut up and learn how to do your job the right way". This was after they had already searched my carry-on, etc. Only reason I even got pulled over for personal search was that the penny nails in the heels of my dress shoes set the walk-thru detector off. Wasn't wearing any other metal, not even watch, belt buckle, wedding ring, coins, etc. Machines are obviously set too goddamn sensitive......and they still didn't spot the carbon-fiber knife in my rolling computer case. Cost me about $250 because even though the belt was $15, the labor was $235. Reason? In order to change the belt, you have to jack the whole engine out of the car about 15 inches, put the belt on, then drop it back in.

damn engine was so wedged in there (front wheel drive) that I swore off front wheel drive after that. no room to work on the vehicles. thank God for my 1967 Impala convertible with big-block V8! I can actually climb in the engine bay and work on the engine comfortably.

all new vehicles I buy since then (15 yrs and counting) I make sure that there is plenty of room under the hood to work on stuff, even if I don't do the work, since I know the mechanic labor rate will be high.

the only people getting a 100+% markup on a regular basis on everyday retail items is the big-box vendors who stick it to the manufacturers for lower price cost. which makes it harder for us to compete since we don't get special pricing like the big boys do and don't have the advantage of buying in quantity like they do either.
