If you are having crashes, you need to check which database is being used. If it is Btrieve, then you may want to look at your code (Peachtree). I examine financial institutions (credit unions) in the area of IT controls and policies and procedures. I can tell you that the GLB Act basically specifies 3 things.
    They are:
-all data is private, you must keep it secure
-vendors handling your data must keep it at least as secure as you are required to
-I can't remember the 3rd at this time of night

Anyway, if I found out during the exam that the party who performed an "audit" only did a simple port scan, I certainly wouldn't hesitate in letting the credit union know that they were taken advantage of and their "security audit" was most likely unacceptable and could not be relied upon as showing due diligence in execution of their duties. I've had some extremely small credit unions tell me that their DSL Internet connection has a firewall....a Linksys cable/modem router and ZoneAlarm Pro! and they were serious!

Due to varying circumstances, I give a lot of leeway in what is required of these financial institutions. I don't necessarily require them to have an IDS or a firewall. It all depends on their particular circumstances. However, if there is even a possibility of remote access, I scrutinize their setups and make recommendations on what they can do to improve the situation and cover their asses.

in fact, in order to avoid a background check (not that I would be prohibited from owning a weapon, it's just not the governments business to know my business), I bought my .410 gauge shotgun from my father who knows quite a bit more about weaponry than I do. He purchased the weapon from another individual. These weapons are not required to be registered in our state. He was the one who recommended a shotgun rather than a handgun. why? if you're a criminal getting ready to break into my house, what would you do if you heard me, thru my front door, jacking a round into my shotgun? you'd know that I was ready to bust your ass and you'd be taking your business elsewhere.

you must be what, 18-19 yrs old? otherwise, you would understand what it means to protect your family from criminals. I've lived in Germany, as well as in England and the US. Grew up there too since my father was stationed overseas.
We rescued your country from a megalomaniacal asshole, one that TOOK guns away from the undesirables. And then he took their businesses and homes. And then he took their lives.

America IS the Land of the Free. Unlike Germany, I can say Heil Hitler in public if I so desire. whether or not I think it is appropriate is beside the point, we have freedom of speech without fear of retribution in this country. If that happened in Germany, why don't you tell the rest of /. readers what would happen? you obviously are one of those socialistic assholes who think that you know what is right for everyone else.

With great power comes great responsibility. Some people are able to handle it, some are not. With great freedom comes great liabilities. In this country, you are pretty much free to do as you please as long as you don't materially impinge on others.

I don't like a lot of things our President is doing. I don't like his taking away of civil rights (the Patriot Act) or his declaration that all people arrested for terrorism are not allowed to consult with lawyers. It stinks of a star chamber, something our founding fathers sought to avoid by establishing 3 branches, each with checks and balances on the others.

So, you see, it's not that we have fallen for the NRA "propaganda bullshit" as you so succinctly put it. It is you who has fallen for the "propaganda bullshit" of "if no one had weapons, we'd all be safe" and "people don't kill people, guns kill people".

Democratically enacted laws? What a load of horse shit! You mean laws passed by senators and congressman only looking out for the welfare of their donors/constituents (Eli Lilly and oil companies come to mind). And what about all the extraneous crap thrown into the latest piece of law coming out of D.C.? Do we really need a federally funded 'Hacker Research Center' at Texas A&M?

Why is it that duly elected officials that goto to D.C. always feel that they are above the law and have to play favorites? Why is it that a majority of them seem to have law degrees or political science majors? I very seriously doubt that our Founding Fathers envisioned having congressmen serve year after self-serving year. They meant it to be more like giving a few years of service to your neighbors and then returning to your regular day job.

When was the last time that Congress gave themselves a raise? Oh, that's right, they really don't have to because they voted themselves a law to give themselves annual payraises! When was the last time that a high-priced lawyer said "You know, I really don't need a salary of $150,000, I can get by on $50,000"? And don't even try to feed me a line of "I have to charge high rates to pay my employees." We're not talking about rates, we're talking about salary. But don't feel that because I'm picking on lawyers that I'm ragging on you personally. I'm ragging on the whole corrupt system.

You're probably one of those prosecuting lawyers in court who say "Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law". Well, guess what? These people said exactly the opposite, and you probably support them in their position. Or do you? You for or against the DMCA? I bet you'd like to convict Jon Johansen, wouldn't you? After all, he broke the DMCA law, NO MATTER HOW FLAWED.

You're supposed to be an educated lawyer, capable of seeng and debating all sides of the issue and you still don't get it. When democratically elected congresspeople screw with their constituents by passing bad laws, and it is impossible to get that law repealed because of backroom deals, jury nullification is the only way to make other people take notice. If jury nullification is performed and the prosecutor and judge were looking for a conviction, this negates their bias by letting your peers judge you, not the prosecutor or judge. Jury nullification allows for changing the rules as society sees fit, not as the prosecutor or judge or the backroom deals dictate!

And where did I call you a butthead? gee, sounds like you really aren't a lawyer to me (or maybe just a very poor one) if you made that simple mistake of mis-quoting me.

Remember that when you are called for jury duty to tell them that you will apply the evidence and the law strictly as it is laid out because you "cannot think for yourself and the people who passed the [stupid] law must be right 'cause that's why they done been 'lected, so they must be smarter than me."
