there's nothing illegal with your employer asking for your LinkedIn or Facebook password, you just have the right to say no, and in a right to work state, they have the right to tell you your services are no longer required. why so upset? - you've got all kinds of rights
Although not a lie per se, what does checking a box labeled "Troubleshooting" mean in the context of an automation engineer? I've been at this since 2003 and have seen a *wide* range of troubleshooting skills both high and low. LinkedIn encourages everyone to go ahead and check that box. So while it isn't full of lies, I believe is full of exceedingly watered down truths.
In an interview on This American Life, John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants explained how the brown M&M's that Van Halen famously forbid were more like a "canary in a coal mine" - to ensure that all the stuff that *really* mattered had been read and taken seriously. If they screwed up something that simple - who knows what they had botched.
IF people are shooting specifically to take down power lines, fiber cables, or insulators, they are vandals and what they are doing is criminal. If you want gun nuts to stop getting all riled up every time something like this happens, we need to quit identifying the entire gun culture as complicit in the crime every time some asshat runs off and does something stupid with a gun.
We wouldn't accept that kind of generalization imposed on us, and we shouldn't do it ourselves.
I have known many hunters in my life, and grew up in MI hunting deer and small game yearly. I never used a rifle for vandalism or in any other irresponsible fashion. I never engaged in "boredom killings" which I think is disgusting. Most people I met through hunting were the same, but there were a few assholes, and to be clear about it, the assholes were assholes irrespective of them being hunters or gun owners, they were assholes in all other contexts as well.
The putting gets amazingly accurate, once you try this little trick: On the short putts, instead of making a normal golf swing motion, hold the Wii-mote down as if at the center position of a swing. Then, instead of a backswing, just quickly snap up, - "it's all in the wrist". Slower more gentle movements give you lighter power. Even the impossible (otherwise) "tap-ins" are a cinch with this method.
This method allows for much more repeatable control of the power on those shorter putts.
Instead of a brilliant strategic maneuver, it's a step necessitated by...
Let's say we all suspend judgement on whether or not this is a brilliant strategic maneuver or not for sometime in the future...oh let's for instance say sometime when we have x86 Macs shipping.
And no, I'm not new here, just a bit of an optimist.
Yes, and therefore, they aren't suckers for spending $400 on something that depreciates rapidly in value approaching junk status in under 5 years for the explicit purpose of playing a game rather than banking that $ on something of a more permanent value financially.
Don't get me wrong - I love playing games - but $400 is $400 dollars no matter what % of your disposable it is. Paying the premium to be on the cutting edge of shit you don't need == complete sucker in my book.
Mac OS X 10.0 also included a few flops, which continue in the product to this day, including the reviled Dock, which is used to switch between running applications and, confusingly, non-running applications
Imagine for a moment the situation on probably 90% or better of the machines out there. Every application that is used has an icon in the dock, and for most users this is completely possible since most users don't use more than a handful of apps on a regular basis. My wife and I share a login, the dock containing Finder, Mail, Safari, Quicken, Illustrator, Photoshop, iTunes, iPhoto, Terminal, System Preferences, Home, and Trash. This small set of apps (may have forgotten one) covers almost all time spent on the machine
It's my contention that whether the application is running is trivial from the point of view of the user. Click on the dock icon (app not running), it starts the application and switches to it. Click on the dock icon (app running) it switches to it. The only reason to even show people that it is running - really is to not remove that security blanket from people. If the damned thing doesn't crash all the time (it doesn't) who cares "what's running". The OS has never shown me any problems with multitasking
Note that at 8:34AM, noticing this is a dupe without providing the link to the original story is +4 Funny.
At 8:35AM and 8:36AM (linkage or not), you're just -1 Redundant like me. It's too bad it only goes down to -1. I'm sure this will be modded down, and it would be nice to add some trolly and Off-topic.
I won't bother. Of course I'm sure that you could not see the first "Dupe" comment when you started posting yours - I couldn't, in fact I was surprised that it had gone unnoticed for so long. It seems the highly trained mod chimps ARE better at identifying dupes - and wicked fast too!
It's not, just look at the way our leaders seem to shrug at the deficit. There's a big red entry at the bottom of their 10K right now in the current cash flow section. If they were for profit, they might see that they stand to be the instant market-defining player in this market. They are however, a for-for-profit businesses regulator, so rather than put more $ in their coffers through a software product, they keep Intuit, H&R Block, etc. in their current power position.
The *one* time in my life that I developed something in VS6 I stumbled upon a comment something like://This function assumes (optimistically) that...

The spoken word procedes the written. People start using "bling bling" on a regular basis - it becomes common slang - it gets included in a dictionary (with a note that this is slang), and if acceptance increases, blammo! you've got a new addition to the language.
Makes sense though, doesn't it? I mean, do we really think that the language is what it is because the men in the know sat down and wrote it all down and then descended on the masses with their crazy pronunciation rules and crazy backwards "e"'s?
I hate to burst your bubble - but 60k won't put you anywhere near the lifestyle you're describing.
If you feel like slamming the exorbitant ones among us, try aiming a little higher next time. Most people in the 60k bracket are just working Joes like the rest of us.
Being from America, and having gone through the public school system...I invisioned 'Soaring Eagle Broadband' run out of a casino, until I realized I was being an insensitive clod and just plain wrong.
Excuse me while I go self-flagellate. Spelling and grammar explained above.
and the interchange has to work flawlessly and completely transparently.
My AA once reported she could not open my word document - I had named the file Something.SomethingElse.doc - and when she double-clicked, Word didn't fire up.
There's little doubt that RMS has done quite a bit for this community (F/OSS - or whatever you prefer), but widespread acceptance of pretty much *anything* is facilitated by having a spokesperson who "the other side" can identify with.
RMS, to many people, looks pretty scary. While this is a horrible reason to discredit anything he has to say - about any topic - it happens. In fact, I'd wager that the inclusion of his photo in articles regardins FSF, GPL, or whatever have a net *negative* effect on the movement (to outsiders) - regardless of how well he articulates his ideas - and regardless of the merits of those ideas.
Until one of the rednecks at work reports that his cousin was apprehended by none other than Tom Cruise for the future crime of "swiping some Vince Gill CD I ain't never heard of before" - I'm going to resist freaking out about this.
If you haven't been to Wal-Mart lately, trust me...the Waltons are simply keeping very good track of their relatives (the call it "kin-folk") - who will be easily recognizable until at least a time when dental services are available in the stores. I've never seen so many missing teeth in my life!
The Banshee, the Covenant's hang-glider-style flying vehicle, can now perform barrel rolls and loop-de-loops, and it also has an afterburner-style boost.
It also has the ability to make a professional game reviewer sound totally fucking gay!

How shocking is it exactly that 2012-1995=17?
My plan increased $20/mo. Not worth mentioning when overhead totals $2400/mo. The Curve was a POS, crashing constantly.

I would like to see a Venn diagram showing the intersection of the following sets:
A: People actually good at math.
B: People who think 5 minutes of their time is worth 25 cents.
C: People with a computer connected to the internet.

Stand up and declare "Urine luck!" and let the recharging begin!
