They never will learn. Well maybe some of them will but most of them just want their computer to run and nothing more. IMHO you can't change the older ones that are in the system because they don't want to learn anything. It's very much like the Matrix (IMHO) but it's true.

That's the whole right of way thing. I think the local municipality gave them the rights. Shame they don't negotiate with the property owner instead.

  3. Oh please!!!! on Verizon Claims Net Neutrality Violates Their Free Speech Rights · · Score: 1

Fuck you verizon. Thank god I live in an area where there is some competition and I can choose what ISP I want but I feel really bad for people that don't have a choice. I dumped them a long time ago because they wouldn't fix our phone service for months and then they expected everyone to buy FIOS.

The vicious cycle is not between big media and the pirates. The cycle is between the big media and their customers suffering from battered wife syndrome, such as people like you and the GP/OP. People like you and the GP keep paying them money, so they can keep on existing, doing what they want to do, and what they want is DRM If you don't like DRM, simply don't buy it. Do not give them the privilege of your money. Whether you pirate it or not afterward is irrelevant. The bottom line is... the bottom line. Hit them where it hurts.

That pretty much says it all right there. What this really comes down to is a lifestyle change. I'm willing to give up on certain kinds of media if I can't get it on my terms. Plain and simple.

  5. The UN on The U.N.'s Push for Power Over the Internet · · Score: 1

As I recall the original mandate of the UN to stop wars between countries, and to provide a platform for dialogue. (Wikipedia) It has evolved since it's inception but I hardly think the UN should be the governing body of the internet. There's too much politics as it is and it's a wonder how anything actually gets done over there. Yeah...not a good situation.

By prompting people to revise their queries, we hope to reduce these disruptions and improve our user experience from mainland China,' the company said in a blog post.

ZOMG the list of censored terms has to be bigger than War and Peace. Here's an idea, throw all of those terms at the great firewall and buffer overflow results (or something like that). Then the Chinese people can see what the nanny state has been hideing from them. Information IS power.

You can't get blood from a stone. I hope it becomes cheaper to hire a local band to preform at weddings. I'd like nothing better than to have their revenue stream cut off.

Agreed. There simply isn't enough motivation for credit card executives to change their business practices. There needs to be an extra layer of security in place to mitigate damages from fraud. The executives that let this happen need to answer for it otherwise the system will never change. I could say the same about Wall Street bankers that lose billions of dollars in hedge funds. I'm not exactly crying for the clients mind you but this mess is getting out of control.
