I believe you're wrong. I'm not aware of any FCC mandate that says Cable companies must switch to digital.
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html
See the top section of this page. This was mandated by the FCC. As I recall they want to use the analog spectrum for cell phone's as the spectrum provides better signal penetration. So the fcc can sell the spectrum to the highest bidder. It's all about the money (this answer can also be applied to your sig).
Why haven't we heard about this? It seems like they would have talked about it in the press or something.
They're doing this piecemeal in the northeast. Where I am they've already done it but when I went to see my family in Mass they were just getting started.
His agreement from 1982 is probably not going to get him anywhere as Comcast will still provide the service but the technology has changed. This whole thing was started with the FCC and so it's not because Comcast decided to impose some arbitrary money making scheme. IANAL but I am ACE.
Well it's not like a woman from Mars could win. They're so ugly. Ah but those Venusian women...it's amazing that they haven't won yet. Yeah it's rigged.
Anybody who truly believes in liberty would wear that arrest like a badge of honor. You stood-up against the Nobility and won. It's a victory for the People against tyranny.
It would be an awesome badge of honour but your avarage employer will look at that as a demerit. In fact your employer probably doesn't give a shit if you fought the good fight. Same thing with your next employer and the one after that. There are better ways to fight this than getting yourself thrown into jail. Terrorism was the best thing to happen to this country for the cops and spooks. Everything is national security this and that. This country is too busy chasing it's tail and suppressing civil rights to notice that bin laden has already won.
Baidu might even gain enough power to come to the US and dominate our market too.
Oh I seriously doubt that they could do much damage to Google on its' own turf. With the market pretty well locked up here I doubt they could get much of a foothold. If they were so brazen Google would probably outspend them 2:1.
And how much are they going to charge us for that? I'm paying too much already for my internet, cable and phone. Thanks but no thanks. I assume this is for the people in rural area's that don't have any internet to speak of. I'm sure the company they sell it to will continue the status quo and provide bare minimum to rural area's. No news here move along.
In other Apple news, Germany has demanded that the company "immediately make clear" what data it collects from customers, and what use it makes of that data (perhaps spurred by Google's Wi-Fi sniffing debacle).
While updating my Ipod touch (3gs) last night I noticed in the tos that you can control which apps have access to the service. I think this is a cool idea but I didn't see anything in the new os that allows me that access. It doesn't really matter that much for me as I usually turn location services off till needed but what is Apple pulling here? I'd be very disappointed if that only works with an iphone.
OTOH, The U.S. Military ain't exactly angels. So which ones of us should Verizon be fucking?
You should be thankful that they are there to fight and die for you. And yeah sometimes you have to shed the angel wings to go kick some taliban ass and sometimes it doesn't work out right and we kill innocent people. Walk a mile in their shoes before you judge them.
Regarding the early termination fee, that happened because some rep was not empowered (or too stupid) to step up and do the right thing. No story there.
Your position on banks in right on and I agree with you 100% however this started out as a stupid story about Chase limiting what browsers you can use with their website. No story there as most banks I've ever used only support IE or maybe firefox. It's kind of stupid for them to support IE6 when the rest of the web including Microsoft is trying to get people to stop uing it. We should stay on topic though. And someone should mod your post up.
I am boring and it's twit (queue the grammer nazi's). I understand most regular people don't get tech but most of what I do is very simple and does not require you to think very hard (ex: follow the cord from the modem to the router. Unplug it from the router (yes the netgear box) plug it into your computer.) Even if you don't know a damn thing anyone who has basic listening skills can do this. After repeating the same thing three or more times it finally starts to sink in. This goes back to the plug and play attitude I was talking about. People don't want to think for themselves and expect things to work out of the box. A perfect example: why can't I get wireless internet? I hooked the router up and the lights are on. Did you run the setup disk that came with the router? Oh well there's your problem. Sorry I rant too much but I see this every day and it amazes me that people are like this.
I believe the exact quote was "I have altered the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further." In another life he would have made the perfect corporate scoundrel.
The damn thing will be 9 years old this august. It has more holes in it than swiss cheese. It came with IE6 which most would agree is the most compromised browser of all time. Why are people still using this thing?
I work in a call center and about 85-90% of people I deal with are still using windows XP. Fortunately there seem to be far fewer people using IE6. Considering the amount of trouble they get themselves into (drive by attacks "it said click here so I did. why doesn't my computer work?)it doesn't really matter what browser they use anyway. The problem here is a lack of basic computer literacy. In my experience the general public has this plug and play attitude to computing because they are not forced to learn anything. It makes everything support has to do for a customer that much harder. I don't care if you were stupid enough to click on this popup because it said you have 800 viruses on your computer. Best buy must be making a killing off these people.
What annoys me is that the FCC is a non-democratic bureaucracy, making plans to dismantle broadcast TV, and there's no way for the People's voices to be heard (either for or against). I feel as helpless as a serf.
Welcome to the new digital world comrade. It's the same as the old analog world. Seriously though, who can you complain to? Your senator, representative? Better bring your checkbook.
That's probably because most of them don't speek geek. I find that people who are not very tech savvy seem to filter out geek. They also tend to have a clueless look on their face after you have explained a simple concept that a 5th grader should be able to understand.
You've missed an important point. The FTC mandate has nothing to do with cable TV
You're quite right. The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has absolutly nothing to do with cable broadcast. That would be the FCC.

We have to warn... Somebody... wait... whats...bad....about....this?
It's probably nothing but I've heard the launch and reentry are a bitch.
LMAO. I left you an opening for that one.
Perhaps we should send them a Dyson.

The only question I ever thought was hard, is do I like Kirk or do I like Picard?
Picard of course. Earl Grey please.

Way to walk the middle of the road man. Their ETF fee's will be their downfall.

LMAO. Am I the only one that saw the headline as "China Bans Military Personnel From Flogging"

Fortunately my kid would rather be out playing sports than watching it.

Mod that man up

And if you have a tv which can take cable cards (the same thing inside your stb or tivo) they will install them for you as well.
