A true artist DOES need compensation and deserves it. All of the time and money put into lessons and practice deserves retribution. Having the nerve to put yourself in front a crowd has a lot of value. No one asks a doctor to care for patients for free because a true doctor should do it for the love of it. All of these bands that play these "pay to play" venues are absolute suckers. They are actually paying for the club owners advertising costs. On the flip side, all of the artists that are multi-millionaires deserve every penny. Think about how many lives they've had a positive impact on.

If a musician has decent material that deserves money, then they should find someone who can effectively market their work.

  18. Re:That's why I'm pro socialism on Google, Apple Call Workers' Race & Gender Trade Secrets · · Score: 1

Socialism is likely why you grew up poor in material wealth. The "free" education had to come from somewhere. It was someone's time and skill that had to be donated to you(which is great if they willingly do it) or forcibly taken from someone else and given to you.

Of course your response as a socialist would be that I'm heartless, and I'm for the rich getting richer. That's not the case though. Go back to 1918 in the US, before this country was one of socialism. A factory worker made on average $5 a day(that sounds like peanuts, but remember the dollar hadn't been thoroughly devalued yet) The cost of one year of tuition at Yale was $160. If you grew up in the poorest of upbringing, you could have got an education from one of the elite schools in the world by working a mere 32 days. There were no income taxes back then, so making $5 a day meant you took home $5 dollars a day.

So what's changed since then. FDR came out and said everyone deserves an education. (And stole everyone's Gold, btw) We got the Department of Education. We have organizations like Sallie Mae. We have government guarantees on student loans. Now Yale's tuition is $30,000 per year, a little under a years salary with your average worker in the US making around $40,000(although your average factory worker makes around $10/hour, or about $20,000 per year) and a nice chunk forcibly taken by the US government. Universities don't care if they drive up these tuition costs because the students will just take out loans from the government. If you cut these programs tuitions would have to come down because they're not going to let their classrooms go empty since no one can afford tuition. The cost of tuition should actually be going down with the advancement of technology.

So we've tried your socialist ideas and they've been a complete failure.

Who did these bailouts help? It's been nearly 1.5 years since they started, and we have rising unemployment, rising health care and education costs. Prices of everything else are holding steady even though they should be falling, which is effectively inflation since wages are down. Meanwhile you had $4 and $6 million bonuses for Fannie and Freddie CEO's, as if it took some special skill to lose hundreds of billions. Execs of other failed institutions are taking $1 mil+ bonuses.

The only argument our elected officials can come up with to defend this massive failure is "It would have been a lot worse otherwise". Well, if they didn't bail these failed institutions out, it would have been a lot worse for those failures who took huge bonuses. You need to think about where this $1.5 trillion so called stimulus came from.

A good start would be to stop electing career politicians. People need to realize that Republicans and Democrats are in bed with each other. The biggest problem in this country(and all countries) is the use of a fiat currency. The founding fathers were well aware of this danger, and that's why they said that only Gold and Silver can be used as legal tender. However, you'd be thrown in jail today if you used either of them.

Since the government controls the money supply by issuing dollars that have nothing standing behind them, they can do whatever they want without any resistance. If we used sound money, the government wouldn't be allowed to up a number in a computer to create more money.(Effectively counterfeiting. Of course they use terms like quantitative easing to make it sound better). If they didn't have this money, they wouldn't be able to control every aspect of people's lives.

What the general population doesn't realize is that as a collective unit, we actually have way more power than the government does. Since it's us that carry out their orders. We control our labor, and we don't have to give it away for the depreciating dollar. We can stand up to them and demand that we use sound money so that we can bring integrity back to the financial system. If we organized ourselves effectively, there would be nothing they could do.

  22. Re:But what about the spirit? on Feds Push For Warrantless Cell Phone Tracking · · Score: 5, Insightful

It is not outdated. Politicians take an oath to uphold the constitution, but don't. They should be thrown in jail. There is no interpretation of it, it's very easy to read and understand. The Founding Fathers were well aware of the consequences of the actions we're taking in government now because they lived through it in Britain. That's why you hear quotes from very smart men such as Benjamin Franklin saying "If we restrict liberty to attain security we will lose them both." We've seen that actually play out since Sept. 11th. Or other ones like "Remember that time is money." which also continues to hold true.
Just because there is new technology, does not change the ways laws should be enforced. A cell phone conversation is no different from a land line conversation which is no different from sending a letter. If you intercept a letter, it's a violation of privacy just as it would be to listen to someone's cell phone conversation. The government would like people to believe that there's a difference so they can continue on their malicious ways of fascism.
