This is a huge mistake for microsoft. What is to prevent everyone from switching to openoffice if everything interoperates perfectly? Also, what does this mean for OASIS? I'm not complaining but this is rather...unexpected.

Yes the submitter definetly fell out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down. Not only is what what he said about QWERTY wrong, but he gives no reason for why to use the new keyboard over Dvorak. I have been using Dvorak for years now and would never go back, let alone try some shitty patented keyboard designed for hunt-n-peck folks.

Read the book The Underground History of American Education by John Taylor Gatto. It is available for free on his website. If you want to see briefly what it is about before you read it (fair enough) there is a 2 page essay that is kind of similar by him here. However unlike in his essay, in his book gatto meticulously quotes from primary sources to make his points about the evils of our educational system.

On one hand the evil alliance is getting more powerful by the day. On the other hand, ESPN pretty much only covers boring invented-for-tv/radio sports. I guess since I don't play sports games or EA games this doesn't really bother me, although the day they try to buy out the Nethack dev team I'll be outside corporate headquarters with my torch and pitchfork.

Actually George has said several times that part of the reason why the prequels were so long in coming was that he didn't like the fact that people were devoting their lives to his movies and he wanted to discourage them from doing this. If Lucas saw this guy sitting there then most likely he would tell him to get the fuck up and get a job.

When I played UO I kept having this dream where my house was being looted. The problem was I kept my computer next to my bed and was in the habit of checking my character every couple hours of the night anyway so my sleep was mixed with the game. Because of this it got to the point where I couldn't tell if my dreams about the game were real or not and the only way I could tell was to check. Very scary, fortunately i sold my account on ebay for 600 bucks about 6 years ago.

If you go to Wikipedia in the press then you can see all the articles about Wikipedia that have been in mainstream newspapers. There really isn't any reason to post every single one, especially since this is probably the fifth article on Wikipedia that has been in the observer in the last year. Granted, I love Wikipedia, but everyone on slashdot already knows what it is so linking to it every week only serves to cause problems for the people monitoring the recent changes by giving them a surge of extra work.
