How about the annoying trend of getting a string of Netflix DVDs that are so scratched that they won't play?
Actually, I would think that Netflix would love to distribute these instead of standard DVDs. No replacements, half the postage cost, less complexity, increased profits.
Note that only one of those is a 'critical' flaw, and that one is an ActiveX buffer overflow than can be avoided by just not using ActiveX. The rest are spoofing or system information flaws.
Unfortunately, the actual data in that article produces a different conclusion. Anand just draws the wrong conclusions. As usual.
The 2.0ghz Pentium M performs within 10% of a Pentium 4 3.6ghz in most tests. That isn't exactly not competing.
Anand then saws that it can't compete because of price and lack of chipsets. Well, no shit. They produce mostly Pentium 4 chips for the desktop, not Pentium Ms. Ever heard of economies of scale? And you can bet that if Intel decides to switch to a Pentium M-based design for its next desktop chip, they will have a much more modern chipset to go with it.
You'll note that we now use high-voltage DC power lines in some places. High-voltage DC-DC conversion has made great advances since the time of Westinghouse and Edison.
It would not be difficult, I imagine, to run 100V DC throughout a home or datacenter. From what I can gather, DC-DC converters in this range have efficiencies around 90%. Even good PC power supplies only have 80-85% efficiencies (besides Antec's fanless 90%+ effienciency fanless supply).
And I'm pretty sure you aren't person of interest concerning processor design. This would be akin to me saying that HTTP really means hyper terminal turbo popper. I might work literally, but everybody knows I'm full of shit.
The literal definition of the phrase is difference than its widely-accepted meaning. Is that so hard to understand?
Instead of having to repeatedly say "two processor cores on a single processor die," someone coined the term 'dual-core.'
The meaning has always been this way. Just because you decide that it means something else doesn't make what you say correct.
I use several software suites for drug discovery that use stereoimaging using 3D glasses.
It is extremely useful to see in 3D when trying to mentally fit a drug compound into a binding pocket on a protein. Doing it in 2D is a pain.
This laptop (for me) will be GREAT for dragging along to academic conferences and business meetings. Being able to show people exactly what work I'm doing for their new drug or whatever will be a great thing.
A niche market, but everybody is a niche for one market or another.
With the productivity gains associated with a dramatic decrease in spam, we as a nation could afford to give every working blind person a yearly $50,000 stipend.
None of the Delta cards are PCI-X.
And I was going to post with my "low" UID. Thanks a lot. :(

Funny, I'm running dual 2800XPs, MPX chipset, SCSI drives, 6 PCI cards, etc. on an Antec 550W and I haven't had a single problem.
PEBCAK perhaps?

> PS: Is my user ID small enough?
No. Never small enough!
Oh, and the poster before you never called them antibiotic soaps. He clearly said antibacterial.
Triclosan is basic hygiene now?
I think it would be badass if, when using your favorite word processor, the keys displayed the characters of whatever font you were currently using.
I'd love to hear the reasoning behind that statement.
I couldn't think of a good way to say "you're full of shit" without sounding like an ass.
Why do you think the phone would make dit and dot sounds?
You do know that the Chinese currency is pegged against the dollar, right?
Its well-accepted that the Chinese currency will devalue when they stop pegging against the dollar.
And it drives me nuts that people can't understand things in context.
It was obvious that he was talking about less power at the same volume level.
How is cubic meters per minute not proper SI?

> True dual-core systems
Nobody has EVER used the term 'dual-core' to describe dual-processor SMP. Dual-core has always been in reference to two cores on one chip.
For the same reason that one would upgrade from Windows 3.1 + Win32s to Windows 95.

It wouldn't be at all hard to built a system to interpret the keywords. A computer can figure out top, bottom, green, and bold as well as you can.
This system is difficult to break because a computer can't make an equivalency between "dog" and [3-D object representing a dog].
I saw a production of 1776 performed in Faneuil Hall in Boston. My landlord was John Adams.
:)
Good stuff it was.
BluRay is proprietary...since when?
