Get your Astrology and Fortune telling jokes out of the way, but it's not really hard to use predictive analysis and come out to be very accurate (within 3%). You are not always going to hit it on the head, but it's very easy to get close. There are patterns in everything people do and while there will always be outliers for the most part behavior follows basic patterns or cycles, although these may change over time.
It's important to be predictive in anything that involves a queuing system, such as a sales website or where a lot of the theory got its start in telephone calls. Really it applies to anything where people try to do the same thing at once that requires resources for the company to allocate. It can be the difference between success (Blizzcon ticket queue never crashed out) and failure (iPhone 4G). Especially with more people trying to access the same thing at once on the internet, this sort of analysis of how many resources to allocate efficiently is going to be more important. You don't want to allocate too much due to costs, but you can't do too little otherwise your customers suffer.
Yeah, it’s a lot like statistics, but it's going from 'What Happened?' to 'How and why did it happen?' and from 'What is happening now?' to 'What's the next best action?'.
BP is not going anywhere. They make so much money from oil hungry customers they will be able to survive this disaster and mostly likley still turn a profit this year.
Right now the cost per day of clean up is $16mil/day compared to the BP profits per day which is $66mil/day. Right now CNN reports BP has $7b in cash on hand and makes $14bil in profit per year. The clean up effort is not expected to excced $14bil. So, they may just take a loss this year.
This post made me think of Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street, the lead systems designer for World of Warcraft. He has a PhD in Marine Science from the University of Texas at Austin.

What the law says is that your user level password should not be disclosed. This was not a user level password. The law says "All production system-level passwords must be part of the security administered global password management database." He should not be the only person with access to the network. That is why he was asked for the password and should have handed it over. It was not his user level password, but a password to access the network that he built.
I would go with "This Land Is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie used by Reagan in the 80s. Guthrie through his life was associated with communist groups and wrote the song as a response to "God Bless America". In many ways the song was a communist anthem.
I'll alos just note that I have seen certain Repulicans denouce "Born in the USA" as anti-America. I would disagree and question what America they live in.
I don't think you cna pin it on just Monotheism. I think it's human nature to attack people with different belief systems than yourself. As long as people have differing ideas we will attack each other claming that it is the one true way to think right. The Romans did it to the Monotheists as well. Korea fought a war over differnce in idealogy that was not related to relgion as well.
It was modded off topic for defending an action of the 'bad guys' in this story. Slashdot modding is just piss poor.

It's got cameras in it and this story is about cameras. Now you have to mod me up.
To me, if it was public information then the judge would be wrong. The supporters would have every right to ceaslessly use the judge's publicly listed contact information. It crosses the line when the dude starts giving out private information and uses it to hareass the judge. It's in a way a lesser degree of giving out the judge's street adress and encouraging people to go to the judge's house.
The difference is that this was not a publicly available email adress. Trudeau gave out the judges email to his followers and encouraged them to contact the judge. The judge does have a publicly listed phone number available for those that wish to contact him.
The new part is that it comes out of a whale's butt.

Looks like some of our states are bringing the overall average down. The top few states would make the top 10 list.
SMIILE = SM (Space Migration) + II (intelligence increase) + LE (Life extension)
That's the Leary way of saying it.
Even when still in combat. I can certainly understand why they went with druids.

Yes, the Virtual Boy is why I no longer see the color red.
